21.01.2022 I just registered for the Melbourne marathon in October. So far 28 km is the longest I've run so quite a bit to add to that. But there's plenty of time to get ready so I can slowly build on the distance and stay (fingers crossed) injury free.
21.01.2022 Yay! The lovely people at Melbourne City Council have agreed for INDY Fitness to hold Heartmoves classes twice a week at the Bill Vanina Pavilion in Kensington. Official launch will be on 16 April at 11 am and then classes 11 am Wed and Fri starting from 23 April. There's been an enthusiastic response from locals I've spoken to so I think there will be a good turn out.
20.01.2022 If you would like to know about the latest offers, have a look at the website - www.indyfitness.com.au - for details. You can then contact me via FB or the site's contact page.
18.01.2022 The running group I train is getting too fit, I struggled to keep up with them today! But it's great to be pushed harder, I'd not be able to sustain that intensity on my own.
17.01.2022 Hi everyone, this is my new PT business. My focus is getting people active for their long term health. My policy is you're never too old or too portly to get moving!
16.01.2022 A short running session with J - both of us recovering from colds so a gentle trot with a few 350 and 150 intervals thrown in to mix it up a bit. I was pretty creaky after Sunday's 40 km walk (preparation for the Upstream Challenge 50 on 16 November) but feeling better now.
16.01.2022 I attended a great forum run by COTA (council on the ageing) on Friday. The subject was health and activity for older people and there were some really inspiring stories. One woman, when aged 65, was told by her GP that she'd soon be in a wheel chair due to back issues. She started strength training and now represents Australia in weight and power lifting. At 75 she can power lift 131 kg.
15.01.2022 Here's an interesting bit of data from the Heart Foundation: of the modifiable risk factors contributing to heart disease, obesity tops the list at 60%. No great surprise there. But coming in second place, at 54%, is physical inactivity - if that's not a good enough reason to head out the door for a walk I don't know what is.

10.01.2022 Well it's been a very dull few weeks at INDY Fitness while I dealt with a chest infection. I started to get back into running a couple of weeks ago after more than a month off - happily I'm finding my fitness is coming back pretty quickly. I was able to keep up things like squats and lunges so maintained some leg strength, now I just have to work on getting endurance back. The marathon is only 4 months away!
10.01.2022 Appreciated some excellent customer support from this company today - looking forward to receiving the gear! www.skirtsports.com.au
09.01.2022 Still struggling to find the perfect gift for someone? How about some sessions with a personal trainer? $60 for each individual session, or $500 for ten, valid for 6 months (three months longer than the usual terms as we know it sometimes takes a while for new year resolutions to become reality). Perfect for those in Melbourne's inner north/west (Kensington, North Melbourne, Mooney Ponds, Ascot Vale, Brunswick, Footscray and Yarraville).
08.01.2022 I did the Two Bay Trail run last weekend, 28 km from Dromana to Cape Schank. It was really tough, but a beautiful route and extremely well organised. I finished in 3 hrs 19 minutes and 40 seconds, quite a bit slower than I'd expected. I'll be back next year to get under 3 hours! Have a look at the trail here... http://www.twobaystrailrun.com/iTheTrail.html
06.01.2022 If you're thinking that some personal training might be the way to meet your fitness goals here's a good deal: 4 weeks, 3 sessions a week, for $540. That's $45 a session. A month of consistent training will establish a great foundation with better fitness and greater confidence in your ability to stick at it.
06.01.2022 Happy 2014! A bit late I know - I've been busy eating leftovers, drinking wine and reading. It's a great time to start thinking about what challenges you want to set yourself for the new year. For me the physical goals are a marathon (first time, I figure I should do it before I get toooooo long in the tooth) and learning how to swim properly, i.e. not having to stop and gasp for two minutes at the end of every lap.
05.01.2022 I'm going to be in the Upstream Foundation's 50 km walk on Saturday. We covered 40 km a couple of weeks ago so should be in reasonable shape at the end. I just hope the weather is less dire, it's really unpleasant out there. Still, very conducive to consuming lots of delicious carbs!
03.01.2022 The finish line of the Two Bays run - # 146. I don't know why I'm still running!
