This is a common occurrence in contact sports that involve twisting and pivoting movement such as basketball, soccer, Australian Rules football and lacrosse. 23.01.2022 Chia seeds... they're often called a superfood but what makes them so super? These little seeds really pack a punch! Although they are so small, they are packed with healthy omega 3 fats and fibre, along with minerals including calcium, iron and magnesium. These nutrients can help to prevent deficiency and chronic disease. Regularly including omega 3 fats and fibre in the diet can help keep the heart healthy too!... These guys are so versatile! They blend into almost any meal, so try adding them where you can; pop them in smoothies, on your cereals or salads, or in sauces, casseroles and baked goods . . . . #inertia #inertiahealthgroup #adelaide #hindmarsh #bowden #diet #dietitian #dietician #dietetics #nutrition #adelaidenutritionist #adelaidenutrition #chiaseeds #superfood

21.01.2022 Ever wondered why it’s important to exercise if you’ve got a surgery coming up? Exercise has many benefits, both before and after major surgeries (e.g. cardiovascular and joint replacement surgeries) In cardiac surgeries, preoperative targeted exercise has been shown to REDUCE the length of stay and REDUCE the number of complications involved with the surgery. Preoperative targeted exercise can also IMPROVE the functional recovery following major joint replacement surgery.... Targeted exercise post-surgery should begin as soon as tolerated in order to REGAIN functional mobility. With this in mind, consider booking an appointment with our Exercise Physiologist to assist with exercise before and after a major surgery. They’ll help you get back to feeling BETTER, SOONER. 19.01.2022 40% of all youth (children, teenager and adolescent) injuries are sports-related. Injuries in a young athlete should not be brushed off. They have the potential to become longer lasting injuries that ultimately can lead to significant unnecessary time away from competition and training-. An accurate diagnosis is essential to prevent this and in most cases, your physiotherapist can make an accurate diagnosis by listening to your childs injury history and performing a thorough clinical examination and together coming up with a plan to get them back into the sports they love in a time appropriate manner!

04.01.2022 Heel pain can be a real pain, and it is something we see very regularly at Inertia Podiatry. There are a number of different causes of heel pain, but one of the most common we see is plantar fasciitis. A common symptom of plantar fasciitis is pain under your heel, first thing after getting out of bed in the morning or after youve been resting during the day. We refer to this as first step pain.... Plantar fasciitis often stems from a mechanical issue that is the muscles and fascia in your foot are working too hard. All this excess workload may a result of factors such as: The wrong shoe for your foot or chosen activity. An inefficiency in the way your foot is moving (foot posture, tight muscles and stiff joints). A sudden increase in activity (duration or intensity or both!). However, not all heel pain is plantar fasciitis. If your heel pain is stopping you from doing things you love we can help! Our Podiatrist Ali can fully assess your feet to determine the cause of your heel pain. In the meantime, stay tuned for some handy tips to provide some relief before your visit
