23.01.2022 Countless stories of devastation are emerging around Australia as our beautiful country continues to burn. Weve seen almost 4.9 million hectares already burnt in NSW alone. And while trees burn, our wildlife also suffers. Many animals were already struggling with a lack of water and food due to the drought. With the fires destroying unprecedented amounts of habitat, food shortages have increased and lack of suitable habitat will be a significant long-term challenge for survi...ving wildlife. Bacchus Wine Merchant are proud to donation $5,000 to WIRES. We encourage everyone to dig deep and support those affected at this devastating time. 21.01.2022 Despite growing up in wineries alongside her winemaker father James Irvine, Jo Irvine initially didnt think she wanted to get into wine. It wasnt until she reached her mid-30s, after 18 years as an operating theatre nurse and wanting a change of vocation, that she had the epiphany to become a winemaker. The Lévrier by Jo Irvine label combines all of Irvines passions wine, greyhounds and art, and also helps her give back to the community.... https://www.theshout.com.au//bringing-together-wine-art-a/

19.01.2022 Great article featuring See Saw Wine, from Orange NSW. The See Saw team are passionate about sustainability as their core value. It has been far from a good year for wine growers. The protracted drought and sweltering summer conditions have drastically reduced yields, while smoke taint concerns from the unprecedented bushfire season have seen some wineries abandon vintages all together. But with grape harvest underway and recent rain bringing a green tinge back to the hills ...around Orange, local growers and vintners are getting on with the business of making wine and looking and forward to a brighter season ahead. "It has been a very tough year. In fact, it is probably one of the hardest seasons I've had to grow grapes through in 25 years. https://www.orangecitylife.com.au//finding-the-positives-a

18.01.2022 2020 has been a hard year for all. Our good friend at Hillbilly Cider, and Bilpin local, Shane shares his thoughts thoughts & experiences of when the tragic bush fires hit the Blue Mountains just before Christmas in 2019. 'We thought it was going to miss us, then whoosh! The wind changed & before we knew it we had 60 - 80m flames crowning over us!'. So grateful that they are safe. If you are in the Bilpin area pop in and say hi to the team and enjoy a cider and a pizza! #bilpin

16.01.2022 Great day with Wooing Tree!

16.01.2022 Gewürztraminer? Beaujolais? Rioja? And what's the real, true way to say Moët? Don't get caught out at with those hard-to-pronounce wine names. Caitlyn Rees, sommelier and wine director of the Mary's Group, helps untangles those wine tongue-twisters.

16.01.2022 There are more than 100 wine shows in Australia that award thousands of medals and trophies to wineries. A recent industry debate in the Hunter Valley argued wine consumers don't comprehend the medals or point scores, or why a truly awful wine sometimes wins multiple trophies, confusing punters who think they've found the bargain of the year. Interestingly, each capital city wine show has a Best Cabernet or Best Red Bordeaux varietals trophy, and WA has dominated this class ...hands down every year since 2014. From producing just three per cent of Australia's total cabernet, WA has won 33 of the 41 capital city wine show cabernet trophies since 2014. Read more below. Thanks 3drops wine and olive oil for sharing!

16.01.2022 "For 20 years we've been trying to build resilience into the farms, but I must say that this drought is showing us we've still got to work harder. Now we're saying, let's take this drought as the new normal. What do we have to do?" Justin Jarrett, owner of See Saw Wine, is defying centuries of horticultural tradition by replanting four of his blocks in an east-west direction, instead of north-south in the manner imported from Europe. 02.01.2022 Great article featuring Moorooduc Estate! Drive about an hour south of Melbourne, and the Australian citys energy soon gives way to mellow seaside vibes. The Mornington Peninsulas wine country is relatively new; vines were first planted in 1972, and a wave of aspiring winemakers created the fairly robust beginnings of a wine industry in the 1980s. Cabernet was the grape of choice at that time, as winemakers thought their climactic situation was similar to Bordeauxs. Cool...-climate viticulture was a really new thing in Australia, and there wasnt a lot of expertise with regards to it, says Kate McIntyre of Moorooduc Estate and a qualified Master of Wine, So we got really bad early information. Dad really wanted to grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and so, against the advice that hed been given by the experts, he planted a bit of both. Thank goodness, she laughs. Read more below. Bacchus is proud to stock Moorooduc wine to our QLD customers! Contact us for a tasting today.
