25.01.2022 West Australian career teachers are the BEST INFORMED careers teachers in the world. I havent fact checked this but..... ...where else would you find nearly 1000 educators, employment service providers, unis, RTOs, and a bunch of industry people who are so parochial, and so concerned for career education that they freely share information for the common good? The contributions of West Australians, and a few other minor players like the Commonwealth government, has resulted in the August issue having 50+ pages of stories on: [ 90 more words ] https://infocus-careers.com.au//wa-career-teachers-are-th/

24.01.2022 Hofmann Engineering in Ashfield got the contract to build the bogies at the new rail facility in Midvale. Keep an eye on the Hofmann site for apprenticeships. I think they are the best employer of apprentices in WA.

21.01.2022 Workers have been getting a bad deal from many employers.

20.01.2022 Casual work conditions are a bad deal for workers. Temporary casual is worse. Disadvantaged workers hope its a foot in the door but get trapped as that door leads to poverty.

13.01.2022 The number of useful websites keeps growing, so I have updated this Coggle Map. It is useful for career advisors, school leavers and job seekers. Many of the government sites are duplicate services. You do NOT need to go to each of these sites. You MAY choose to get frustrated that government departments dont collaborate!! 13.01.2022 I have been waiting for builders to put a studio in my garage for 4 months. Not a huge job. Maybe not a priority. They have started but scheduling the tradies is difficult because they have so much work on. I dont think they need more bonus payments at the expense of child care workers.

13.01.2022 Im a big fan of Kim Flintoff from Curtin University and his work to engage students in education. Congratulations

12.01.2022 I am involved with a group called enkel which works to make the world a better place... in 1000 ways. One of the enkel projects is to collaborate on the New Eco...nomy conference. 12.01.2022 To all you good STEM folks out there in the Learning Futures Network... My colleague and STEM tragic, Tim Keely, is keen to get this message out to you all. If ...you know high school students who want to be part of an amazing team who build robots, then look no further. If you want a 4min 14sec overview, watch this! https://youtu.be/csaf5kynigw The Curtin University FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team consists of high school students typically aged 13-18. These students have to work together to design, build, program and drive robots. Helping them are their adult mentors including industry engineers, school teachers, university lecturers, university students, FRC alumni and others. These mentors use their experience to teach, guide and shape the students through the experience. Also supporting the team are our sponsors. Curtin FRC team is helped by many groups who provide funding, space, materials, tools, resources, mentors and publicity. Without these sponsors, our team would not be able to function. This is a great opportunity for students to learn skills like CAD, programming, photography, design, mechanical skills, public relations, marketing, design and communication. Moreover, it teaches leadership, teamwork, perseverance, commitment and puts you in a network of enthusiastic, passionate people. Sound like someone you know? The Pre-season training starts at the end of September. Check out our website here https://scieng.curtin.edu.au///first-robotics-competition/, or just sign up straight away here https://curtin.au1.qualtrics.com/j/form/SV_41TyMTkhzKLqCA5 Please get in contact if you have any questions, and feel free to share this email, or this Facebook post, to anyone who might benefit. 11.01.2022 Your Personal Record as you start High School comes from an idea given by HASS teacher Rebecca de Beer at John Forrest SHS. I thought filling out their Personal Record might help Year 7s to get grounded and become more conscious of who they are as they start on so much change. If you plan to read or store their Personal Records, you will need to tell them that before they write down their personal information.... https://infocus-careers.com.au//putting-your-mark-in-the-/

09.01.2022 More apprenticeship activities happening.

09.01.2022 At the Cyril Jackson Industry Partnership Breakfast this morning I was brought to tears by a young woman's story about how the staff at CJ turned her life around. She turned from a school refuser to a graduate with a traineeship. I turned around to see tears streaming from the eyes of the woman next to me. Spoke to a painter on the way out who said how she was brought to tears. Industry reps spoke about their partnerships with the school. Great work CJ.

07.01.2022 Are you the smartest kid on the block? It doesnt matter how smart you are, if you come across as rude, lazy... or just not interested, you will not get the job. I have employed people because they are "nice" over applicants with higher qualifications who clearly thought they were too good for the job I was offering. Speak to any employer and they will tell you that they want workers who they can get along with. [ 987 more words ] https://infocus-careers.com.au//are-you-nice-enough-to-wi/

06.01.2022 Today was Sire Evaluation Inspection Day at Muresk, where we were joined by members of the WA Stud Merino Breeders Association as we evaluated the 12 sires and... their progeny involved in this program. The Muresk Merino sire evaluation program compares the breeding performance of a Merino sire by evaluating his progeny and their expressed traits relative to the progeny of other sires. A consistent ewe base is joined to sires via an artificial insemination program, and the resulting progeny are evaluated to assess a sires breeding performance for a large number of traits which are important to breeders and commercial producers. The results assist in the selection of sires suitable for a large range of breeding objectives. Traits include: fibre diameter, mid-side staple length, weight, fat depth, eye muscle depth, staple strength and fibre diameter. See more
