06.01.2022 Burrinjuck Dam transmission stringing using drone technology with TransGrid. Our team, supported by TransGrid and Zinfra, used Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) and Infravision custom winches to successfully complete stringing of a section of the 992 transmission line, one of the most challenging sections of the NSW electricity grid. The work was conducted in difficult terrain, dense vegetation and in close proximity to live HV transmission lines. Most significantly the ...work included an 850m pull across Burrinjuck Dam. Detailed planning and rehearsals ensured aircraft and drawlines remained outside of the Safe Approach Distance of live lines and clear of vegetation despite strong winds. Drawlines were matched to integrate with standard puller/tensioner systems. Due to a reduced footprint and safe operation in confined work areas, a 25kg MTOW RPAS was paired to Infravision's VisionOne Stringing System for this project. We sincerely thank TransGrid for their continued support. The technology we pioneer allows for safer and more cost effective transmission construction.
