18.01.2022 Research shows that the different ways parents read stories (like tuning in to a child's interests or asking questions) can help their development even more.

We've got a slip and slide planned for tomorrow morning, so your child is welcome to wear their togs (still must have sunsafe shirt and hat). PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD HAS SPARE CLOTHES.... 16.01.2022 COLOURS AND EMOTIONS EXPLORING PICASSO, VAN GOUGH AND DINE This week at kindy we looked deeper into colour theory by exploring how colours make us feel.... We began by talking about what feelings we feel when we think of a certain colour. When you think about blue, how do you feel? (Check out the pics for some of the children's responses). I then introduced some oil paintings by famous artists, including Picasso and Van Gough. We looked at both the subject in the painting and the colours that the artist used. I asked the children, "How do you feel when you look at this painting?" The children's responses were all very similar and matched the artist's intentions for painting in those colours. So, we discussed the artist's intentions and how our feelings can be affected by colours. We actually had such a great discussion about this that we were late for lunch! I think it's important that we acknowledge children's ability to deeply explore and make connections to their world and sense of self. These discussions are intended to instill a sense of wonder and curiosity about all the things around them. This goes beyond simply identifying names of colours. Going forward, we will be encouraging the children to paint their emotions and use colours to match their feelings. They have the ability to mix and create their own colours now in our art studio, so it is exciting to think about what they're going to create. Tune in this week for updates! Sara

15.01.2022 HAPPY NATIONAL RECYCLING WEEK! Tomorrow we'll be looking at what recycling means and how we recycle at kindy. We'll look at the red and yellow bins and what should and shouldn't go in them.... We'll also look at our lunch boxes and see if there's any way to reduce the amount of plastic we use. Did you know that recycling is just one way to reduce waste? This is an interesting visual to remind us that we should firstly be reducing how much we actually consume in the first place! Sara

13.01.2022 Seeing parents manage their own emotions, like anger and sadness, can help children learn how to manage their own. Why? Because children and babies are very go...od at seeing through parents who try to hide emotions and the more parents talked about their emotions, the better their children managed them. See more
