22.01.2022 A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for DAMAGING WINDS has been issued for people in Northern Country and parts of Mallee, North Central and North East Forecast Distr...icts. Issued at 3:16 pm Sunday, 27 December 2020. The next warning is due to be issued by 6:20 pm. Damaging wind gusts with showers and thunderstorms. Weather Situation: A strong cold front is generating high-based showers and thunderstorms across northern and central parts of Victoria. Thunderstorms may be 'dry' and result in gusty conditions, locally reaching damaging strength (90 km/ h). Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Swan Hill, Kerang, Bendigo, Echuca, Shepparton and Seymour. Wind gusts between 80 and 90 km/h from Personal Weather Stations have been reported with showers and thunderstorms. The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet. * Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Stay indoors and away from windows. * If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways. * If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible. * Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. * Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live. * Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline. If severe thunderstorms develop in the Melbourne Area, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area. Stay informed: http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/warnings/
