25.01.2022 In 1893 Inglewood had a population of 100, with 2 hotels, the Royal and the Sportsman’s Arm, a school with an average attendance of 26, and a court house visited by Stanthorpe magistrate. Coaches ran to Leyburn and Goondiwindi with the fare being one pound. Also a direct service to Warwick for 30 shillings. Stock returns for the district showed that there were 1,471 horses, 21,964 cattle, 51,852 sheep and 73 pigs. Extract from Across the Dumaresq

24.01.2022 And so in December 1964 ... Earthmoving operations began on the construction of Coolmunda Dam.

21.01.2022 We are holding a General Meeting at the centre at 3:30 pm on Monday (29 January). Open to anyone who is interested and wants to be involved in preserving your local history.

18.01.2022 When the State Government went ahead with plans to build Coolmunda Dam, the tobacco industry rejuvenated to some extent for another 20 odd years. This industry played a very important part in the growth and development of the Inglewood area.

18.01.2022 Ten years ago, the Historical Society underwent a project of fencing and having plaques made to list the unmarked graves (mainly children) at historic cemetaries around the Inglewood area. A couple of weeks ago, 4 of our members took a day out to visit these grave sites and were pleasantly surprised to find they are all in very good order. We had a quick look at the Bodumba grave of Joseph and Annie Burke, then on to the Gray family graves (Greysholme) at Mike McGill’s prop...erty, Arlington. Next we went to see the Donovan family graveyard at Glen View where our member, Bob Morrish enjoyed seeing his ancestors graves. It was then on to the Johnstone family graves at Sandy Hill, and finally out to Whetstone to the Devine family cemetery. A very interesting day, and good reports on all the fences and plaques. 1. Bob Morrish, Mike McGill, Trevor Lovell and Nonnie McDougall at Graysholme Graves (Arlington). 2. Bob Morrish with his grandfathers grave at "Glen View" cemetery. 3. Bob Morrish, Rick McDougall and Trevor Lovell at Glen View. See more

17.01.2022 In the early 1960's, irrigated agriculture along the Macintyre Brook was seen as depressed, with the demise of the tobacco industry. One of the reasons was a lack of reliable water with the only storage being the 3 weirs that were constructed in the 1950's - Greenup, Whetstone and Bendor.

16.01.2022 1. Through the trunnion blockouts 2. Water through the valve outlet 3. Dropboard posts on spillway crests 4. Dam full to top of crests.

15.01.2022 Last Friday night we said thank you to two of our wonderful volunteers for their remarkable spirit of giving, as Wayne and Rosemary leave Inglewood for greener pastures! We will miss your tireless hardwork, common sense and witty humour. All the best in your next venture.
