24.01.2022 This photo was captured in 2013 with Josh Bond our CEO and our local partner Leah. Leah runs Cornerstone Nursery that is located in Kalokol, Turkana in northern Kenya. It is a region well documented and has long suffered from drought, starvation, high unemployment, low education and conflict. Our partners at Cornerstone Faith Assembly initially started a feeding program to assist vulnerable families and children. This quickly developed to an education program for children who were not attending school. In 2015 the program started with 150 children attending within the first two weeks.

21.01.2022 Initiate Australia partners with the 12 Buckets One-to-One Mentoring Program to offer the program to schools at no charge and without government funding. The 12 Buckets program gives children from every background and circumstance an equal opportunity to flourish. They strive to equip at-risk and disadvantaged students with the skills, support and connections needed to build a strong future. Together with 12 Buckets we celebrate the development of independent young people contributing to their community through honed skills and generosity.

18.01.2022 Our local partner ‘Power to Empower Gym’ has now been up and running for 8 months. They have over 60 members and are continuing to grow! They have partnered with ALTA ONE, an alternative school for at risk children. They provide an exercise and healthy living program for them twice a week. The gym also provides opportunities for the children to volunteer by sorting and folding clothing donations. Power to Empower Gym has already supported City Church of Christ’s homeless initiative, Pregnancy Assistance Inc, One Voice Shower Bus and our 12 Buckets mentoring program. They are continuing to make make new connections and expand their network.

16.01.2022 The world’s fastest blind marathon runner - the great Henry Wanyoike - returned to the Sydney Olympic Stadium today for the first time since his 5000m gold meda...l at the 2000 Sydney Games. Henry’s biggest problem over the years has been finding a guide fast enough to keep up with him. The Kenyan legend famously dragged his tiring guide over the finish line at the Sydney Games after setting a cracking world-record pace. 11.01.2022 Lots of giving back in 12 Buckets on Monday! Our motto is 'We pour into you so that you can pour into others' Today a beautiful pot continued to be made for one of our children's Mums and Granola was made and shared with the group. This young 12B leader also cooks for her family at home so she is taking the new recipe ideas home to share with her family!

11.01.2022 The ‘Big Sister Campaign’ is one of our partner projects in Kenya. It began with just one girl from the Mathare slum who was unable to afford sanitary products. One of our local partners Charles Kigs offered to pay for them from his own savings. This blew up into hundreds of girls looking for sponsorship for their sanitary products so that they would not have to miss school every month. It has now grown since it started in 2010 and currently more than 1900 girls have access to sanitary products, education and mentoring. This access has kept Kenyan girls from the possibility of prostitution to earn a living and has opened the opportunity for jobs and further education. The Big Sister Campaign has had a tremendous impact across Kenya and has changed the lives of thousands of girls.

09.01.2022 "Almost everyone would be thrilled with a marathon PB of 2:31:31. Running a marathon at that pace means running each km of the 42.2km race in about 3 minutes and 35 seconds, which is fast. Really fast. 2:31:31 is Henry Wanyoike’s incredible marathon PB.
