For those of you out there who use Asana, youve probably experienced the Asana-coaster.... For those who havent, allow us to paint the picture... Youve neglected to organise your projects, theres a whole lot of red overdue stuff, you havent updated anything, you have notes on your desk, in a word doc on your computer and in the notes section of your iPhone. Asana is sitting there watching you in chaos, knowing very well that you could make your life so much simpler by just putting everything into Asana, and youre thinking Girl, stop judging me!. My system is just fine, thank you! Then you decide enough is enough! You dive in, fix up your projects, tick off tasks, add tags, have unicorns flying across your screen left, right and centre (yes, you get actual unicorns flying across your screen when you complete a task) and get her looking real good. However, weve been guilty in the past of speaking fluent marketing to people who arent in the marketing world and of course, it can be really confusing! Thats why weve decided to create a little series for you...... *Drum roll please* We present - Marketing words you pretend to know the meaning of... but actually dont! And the first cab off the rank is the ever elusive EDM. Electronic dance music, is a broad range of percussive electronic musi - oh wait no, no not that one! In our world, EDM actually stands for Electronic Direct Mail. Although it might not sound like as much of a party were here to convince you otherwise! An EDM, in its simplest form, is when you create a database of people and send direct communications to them via email. Were not talking any old email though, were talking beautifully designed emails with pictures, GIFS, videos, offers, and copy that is thought out days, weeks and sometimes months in advance. You know all those emails you get in your inbox everyday from companies offering you 20% off their latest range or telling you all about their latest product? Yep, thats an EDM. Brands, (like us!) use EDMs for a bunch of different reasons, like building relationships, keeping their customers informed, generating leads, and increasing sales. Theyre a great way to send personalised communications to your audience that are tailored to the type of things they like and want to see. With a team meeting where we check in with each other, discuss our priorities for the day, prep for client meetings oh and almost always end up spending 5 minutes chatting about something completely unrelated to work. This mornings non-work related tangent? Our favourite movies and what they say about us.... Saras? Romeo + Juliet. Sara is the QUEEN of visuals and makes everything look and feel like a romantic scene from your favourite movie, so its no surprise that Baz Luhrmans visual masterpiece is Saras fave. Alanahs is the classic Amanda Bynes favourite, Shes the Man. We think it highlights her silly, playful nature but also her huge brain cause its ACTUALLY based on Shakespeares Twelfth Night. Nushs is Almost Famous. A no brainer for us because Nush is Inkas very own rockstar. She just has a rockstar energy, you know? Charismatic, loud, commands a room, oh and she has rockstar moves to match. Darcies fave movie is Edward Scissorhands. Its creative, unique, beautiful, just like Darcie and makes us think about the world a little differently, which is what we feel Darcie does every day at Inka. Starting your morning with some human contact (albeit through a screen), chatting through your work, problem-solving those things that felt too hard to tackle on your own and just simply checking in on each other leaves us feeling ready to tackle anything and everything. Its been almost 6 months since our WFH journey began () and boy have we lear...nt a lot of lessons in that time! DARCIE A self-proclaimed professional hobbyist, Darcie is currently finishing the last semester of her Media + Comms degree at RMIT. Shes super creative and can whip up beautiful designs at the drop of a hat. She had a gut feeling about the Inka internship (a good one, she promises) and applied in the hopes that itd help her grow professionally and creatively. Almost two months in and she feels like shes already learnt so much from working with 4 badass careers women who are so fricken good at their jobs" (her words, not ours ). The biggest thing shes learnt so far is to take pride in what she creates (oh an how to zoom like a pro). MADDY A travel enthusiast, food lover and French speaker, Maddy is in her final year of her Professional Communications Degree at RMIT. Shes a pro with the written word and loves getting lost in the flow of creating copy. She came to Inka because of our ethos and because she wanted real world experience with brand strategy + social media. Shes definitely got what she signed up for, plus so much more, trying her hand at SEO, content creation and all important reporting. The marketing world is filled with buzzwords, slang and acronyms lets break down some of that lingo!... This week its all about the CTA, other wise known as a call-to-action. A call-to-action is simply encouraging your audience to do something, that is, take some sort of action, like "Buy now!", "Subscribe" or "Sign Up". CTAs can be an extremely powerful way to nudge your audience into making a decision, and that decision can make a big difference in your campaigns. They come in many different shapes and sizes... a clickable button at the bottom of your EDM, simple text with a hyperlink or a pop-up on your website, theyll always vary from brand to brand. Whichever form your CTA takes, always remember that it should fit in with your brands tone of voice and values whilst also engaging your audience and most importantly, enticing them to act.
