24.01.2022 Another artist doing their part to reduce plastic #plasticfreebeaches @emiels @olliebrewin
24.01.2022 HEADS UP!! We eat a lot of shark, sold as flake! Consuming sharks will increase the level of mercury you ingest which will in turn increase your risk of neurological disorders, autism, infertility, Coronary heart disease or even death. Sharks regulate the behaviour of prey species, and prevent them from over-grazing vital habitats.

23.01.2022 Why do marine mammals eat plastic? It’s estimated that 56% of the planet’s whale, dolphin and porpoise species have consumed plastic, but to understand why you need to see the world as they do. A plastic bag ballooned with water can look a lot like squid, or other prey, to the seals and marine mammals that hunt them.... Even species that don't identify prey by sight aren’t safe. Toothed whales, and many species of dolphin, use a sophisticated sonar-type technique called echolocation to find their prey. Some scientists believe that unnatural objects such as plastic waste confuse this sonar, and are incorrectly interpreted as food. Words @wwf_australia

19.01.2022 The Chinese dragon is said to be kind and noble. Always remember to leave for future and leave it better than you left it! This is a illustration of a dragon tipping his bowl of fin soup over in greed and excitement! The widespread belief in Ecuador is that the Chinese fleet of some 260 vessels was attracted to what is a rich habitat for sharks, used to make shark fin soup, considered a delicacy in China. In 2017, Ecuador’s navy captured a vessel from a similar fleet w...hich had strayed inside the Galapagos’s protected waters, and found more than 6,000 frozen sharks aboard. Slide to see! More info follow @sharkgirlmadison @teamfinfree @sharkconservation_australia It is time for China to stop its unsustainable fishing practices, rule-breaking, and willful environmental degradation of the oceans, he said via Twitter. We stand with Ecuador and call on Beijing to stop engaging in illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. @ Galapagos Islands

12.01.2022 A message in a Plastic bottle. Every person who comes @thehiddenseawine will take 10kg of plastic from the ocean Also bringing the wine for the Sunday fun day so come check it out! ... This message is a story about a team of creatives from Sydney’s Northern Beaches have taken an unconventional approach to raising awareness during Plastic Free July, using a series of artworks to encourage Australians to reduce their plastic waste. We are showing the story through art on 14 - 16th august at the creative space curl curl. The #PlasticFreeBeaches team said Our goal is to raise awareness by creating imagery that is made to stand out. We need all the support we can get to share this message. So far, the community response and acceptance has been incredible and we’re hopeful that this translates to permanent change, The campaign presents the problem through a unique lens, and challenges locals to join the global movement by highlighting the negative impact plastic has on our oceans and marine life. @oohmedia thanks for spreading the message far with your donation of spaces. 04.01.2022 The globe is covered in plastic waste. The "to-go" coffee culture is a big part of this problem. Take Starbucks, for example. Starbucks uses more than 8,000 paper cups a minute, which adds up to more than four billion a year. 1.6 million trees are harvested every year for all of those single-use cups. Since these cups are lined with plastic, they are not really recyclable only four U.S. cities even accept Starbucks paper cups for recycling. Most Starbucks paper cups (even t...hose accepted for recycling) end up in the trash. Starbucks is the biggest coffee company in the world. The impact of its waste on our water, oceans, and health is dramatic. A decade ago the company committed to change. It pledged to introduce a fully recyclable cup by 2015 and to selling at least 25% of its drinks in reusable cups. To date Starbucks has yet to develop that recyclable cup and only 1.6% of drinks it sells are consumed in non-disposable cups or mugs. It is nowhere near the goals it set in 2008 yet it is urging a no vote no on a shareholder-led proposal asking the company to prepare a report on efforts to develop a comprehensive approach to sustainable packaging at the 2018 shareholder meeting in March. It is time to hold Starbucks accountable. There are 15,000 Starbucks in the US alone and the company plans to open a new store in China every 15 hours. If the company doesn't live up to its goals or its responsibility as a global leader, our plastic pollution problem will only worsen . Plastics persist for decades in the ocean and break down into smaller and smaller pieces but never biodegrade. Whales, seabirds, turtles, and fish are accidentally consuming these plastics, which are making their way into our food systems with unknown effects on people and marine life. Starbucks and other companies are passing the cost of disposing its paper cups onto taxpayers, who subsidize the company by paying for the cost of cleaning up public places and carting all the trash to the landfill.
