19.01.2022 Q: During a flood, how can a rail line avoid getting washed away? One way is by installing culverts! So what is a culvert? A culvert is a structure that allows water to flow from one side to another under a rail line. It’s like an underpass for water For more info on how #Inland Rail is delivering engineering solutions to cross floodplains head to our website: https://inlandrail.artc.com.au/
19.01.2022 A lot of effort goes into building #InlandRail. A big shout out to the men and women working on the ground to construct Australia’s largest freight rail project. Keep up the great work! This pic is of track works taken in our Parkes to Narromine project in NSW.
15.01.2022 Long post alert! You might want to enjoy a cuppa while we answer one of our most commonly asked questions Why isn’t #InlandRail being built as a dual track line? The short answer is: we can’tand we don’t need to! ... Firstly, we need to cross a number of rivers, floodplains and highways and in many of these locations building bridges wide enough to take two tracks isn’t practicable and the cost would be much higher. Also, between Toowoomba and Brisbane we’ll be building 8kms of tunnels, including one that’s 6.4km long. A single tunnel with the diameter needed to take two tracks would be an enormous challenge. Coming out of the Toowoomba Range tunnel, Inland Rail will be on a bridge structure as high as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and as long as the Story Bridge in Brisbaneso you can see why it’s not desirable to build two of those structures next to each other or even one single (giant!) structure with two tracks. On top of this, there’s not enough space for a second track in a number of areas, like where we’re passing through towns or if we’re building within an existing rail corridor that’s only designed for a single track. Considering all that and the fact that there’ll be more than 50 crossing loops (pictured below) to allow trains to pass safely while traveling in opposite directionswe just don’t need two tracks! Phew! If you’re still reading, thanks for sticking with usand if you’d like to know more, check out our website: https://inlandrail.artc.com.au/where-we-go/route-history/
15.01.2022 We were deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of well-respected Junee local, Neville Hyde. Our team had the pleasure of meeting Neville while filming in Junee last year. Nev’s knowledge and passion for rail was unrivalled and we were extremely proud to have him as an advocate for the #InlandRail project. Neville’s adventures in the railway began in the steam era, more than 70 years ago. It was the start of a long and happy career on the railways. He spent much of his... time volunteering at the Junee Roundhouse Railway Museum, staying true to his lifelong interest in rail. We’d like to extend our sincere condolences to Neville’s family, friends and the wider Junee community.
