23.01.2022 Hockey on Hold! Due to the COVID situation, a range of activities have been cancelled and facilities have closed, this includes the Gawler Sport and Community C...entre. This is expected to last two weeks, so hopefully we'll be back to hockey after Tuesday 1 December. As for the cancelled rounds, we'll review what to do once we have returned to play successfully. We'll be watching the updates on the situation carefully and once we can return to play, this will be our priority. Stay safe Vikings! We'll be back, until then keep your skills up by training at home and hopefully we'll see you all again soon.

22.01.2022 Inline Hockey Australia is excited to announce that the 2021 Inline Hockey National Championships will be in Queensland. The Logan Sports Centre is to be the ve...nue from Saturday 25 September to Saturday 2 October. After missing the 2020 Nationals due to COVID-19, I'm sure you can agree, this is going to be one awesome tournament! Inline Hockey Australia is looking forward to working with Inline Hockey Queensland to bring you this event.

22.01.2022 Round 8 Hockey - final round for 2020 We previously had the idea to schedule three rounds into this weekend to makeup the two rounds we missed. This weekend pre...sented a rare opportunity with no general skating sessions over Saturday and Sunday. But there simply wasn't enough notice for members and with current restrictions it wouldn't be ideal to do something like this right now. So we'll be looking into options in the new year, stay tuned! Thank You to everyone for helping us comply with the government restrictions! If things change before the weekend and they lift, we'll email out details asap. Currently they are still in place so we still have the following rules listed below: Strictly 1 parent/guardian per family - the only exemption to this is if one of you are volunteering (i.e Team Manager, Scorer etc), then two parents are allowed. If a COVID Marshal questions you on this, simply tell them what you are there to volunteer for. We have heaps of volunteers and it is near impossible to know them all. No spectators unless you are there to play your game, a parent or guardian or if you are there to volunteer. Players are to turn up for their game and leave immediately after, unless you need to stick around waiting for your next game. Everyone must sign in - either SAfe app or sign in on paper. At the moment, we need to sign in on the Centre QR code and our own QR code, the centre is getting clarification on this but for now just do both - if takes a few seconds each time. Masks are recommended. We'll have the Stone Pavilion this weekend as additional changing space. The Gawler Sport and Community Centre has gifted us this space and we are not paying for it. So we need to ensure we look after the space. This means placing all rubbish in bins, no hockey in these rooms and these areas are strictly changing spaces. We are extremely lucky to have some spectators and the additional changing spaces. Some sports don't allow any spectators at all or have closed for the remainder of the year, so lets keep on top of these rules so we can keep on playing!

17.01.2022 Viking Cup 2020 Wrap-up The Viking Cup 2020 Inline Hockey Tournament was again, a bigger and better tournament than previous Viking Cups! With 4 divisions and w...ell over 160 players, it was a full on weekend of hockey. Despite the tournament been moved throughout the year and finally held when it was viable, we experienced amazing participation from all player across the state from our own North Vikings Club, Blackwood Blaze Club and from Ice Hockey players who previously never played Inline before. To start with, just a shout out to all the players who organised their mates to join in on our tournament, without your support, we would not have had such a great turn out! Also, a big thank you to our amazing volunteer group, from Refereeing, Scoring to BBQ and Merchandise, without all of you we could’ve held a successful tournament. And to our Tournament Supporter, Skate Victoria with who’s help we’ve been able to run more Come and Try’s, re-build Junior hockey and get more players into the sport of hockey. Despite being located here in SA! And for Viking Cup 2020 they provided a professional photographer and we now have a suit of excellent quality photos from Sticks and Stones photography. Junior B Under 12s With 4 teams in total, we hosted two Blackwood Blaze teams and two North Vikings teams, with Blackwood trading in the Blaze name with a brand-new look as the Blackwood Beasts. With a host of players from both Clubs playing in a tournament for the first time, this was really going to test some player abilities. After the round robin, Blackwood Beasts A where the hot favourites after going undefeated and showing their skills and experience and finishing in the top spot. The Blackwood Beasts B team consisted of new players in their first tournament, they showed great potential and where competitive but struggled to get a win under their belt finishing 4th. These two teams met in the Semi-Final and Beast A had taken out the semi final and secured their ticket into the Grand Final. Viking Flames and Viking Fury, both finished strong after the round robin finishing in second and third place. With a mix of new players and experienced players, we saw amazing growth in both teams in this tournament. In the semi-final, Viking Fury controlled the game from start to finish defeating Viking Flames and progressed to the Grand Final matchup. The Grand Final between Blackwood Beasts A and Viking Fury did not disappoint! At half time with was a 4-3 game and tensions where high. But the players form Beasts A showed their experience in controlling the game in the second half and scoring 5 unanswered goals winning 9-3 and taking out the Junior B Viking Cup 2020 Championship. 1st Blackwood Beasts A Riley Knapp (Goalie), Eleanor Bartter, Anika Wegund, Mickey Nottle, Hudson Elze, Poppy Kelly, Jordan Kutsche, Emma Grace Eldhose 2nd Viking Fury 3rd Viking Flames 4th Blackwood Beasts B Most Assists Mickey Nottle - Blackwood Beasts A 6 assists and 0 penalty minutes Top Scorer Hudson Elze - Blackwood Beasts A 23 points Best Goalie Riley Knapp - Blackwood Beasts A 92 save percent Most Valuable Player Poppy Kelly - Blackwood Beasts A 7 points Junior A Under 15s With 4 teams total, Under 15s had Viking Thunder, Viking Ice, Blackwood Beasts and SAWinline (South Australian Womens Inline Hockey Development), it was tough competition with plenty of talented players across all 4 teams. After the round robin and a ton of close games, it was Viking Thunder on top and in the semi-final they faced off against Viking Ice. Ice where a much younger and experienced team, but where battlers on the rink! Viking Thunder had the experience and controlled the game in the semi-final ending Ice’s run. Blackwood Beasts finished second on goal difference and where up against third place all girls development team, SAWinline. At the end of the first, it was a close 2-1, but the Beasts showed the experience and command over the game finishing off the game with a 7-3 win over SAWinline. The grand final was between two of the top teams, Viking Thunder and Blackwood Beasts. Last time these two teams faced-off was in round one of the tournament where it was a 8-8 draw. Beasts started off strong and dominated the first half to a 5-2 lead. Viking Thunder had to battle back into the game but they where up to the task! After a Thunder two straight goals, the goal streak was ended by Beasts to give them a buffer of two goals. With a last-ditch effort goal by Thunder, they were just short to catching up to Beasts commanding lead. The Beasts maintained their lead and secured the Junior A championship 6-5. 1st Blackwood Beasts Riley Knapp (Goalie), Aiden Shea, Daniel Koudelka, Elana Holub, Damon von Einem, Gabriel Koudelka, Elijah Kelly, Liam Peak, Mickey Nottle, Hudson Elze, Max Leong 2nd Viking Thunder 3rd SAWinline 4th Viking Ice Most Assists Ash Bedell Viking Thunder 6 assists Top Scorer Ash Bedell Viking Thunder 18 points Best Goalie Chloe Slapp-Paterson SAWinline 79.3 save percent Most Valuable Player Daniel Koudelka Blackwood Beasts 10 points Division 2 Viking Cup 2020 Division 2 hosted 5 teams total, Puffing Billies and Hilltop Heat from Blackwood Blaze and Wolf Pack, Sting and Crusaders from Vikings. Each team would face each other once before the top two teams would face off in the Grand Final. Division 2 was rather close with the final teams being selected in the final round robin games! Finishing 5th with multiple clos games and a tie, was Hilltop Heat. In 4th with two ties and a few very close losses was Puffing Billies. Crusaders just missed 2nd place and finished in 3rd by 1 point with 2 wins, 1 tie and a loss. Sting finished 2nd and Wolf Pack finishes 1st in the round robin and we have our two grand final teams! Sting started off strong taking the lead 1-0, then it was Wolf Pack that kicked it up a gear with 5 straight goals to a commanding lead. Sting where able to get one back before the end of the half but Wolf Pack was up 5-2. The second half saw Sting get two more goals back on the scoreboard, but Wolf Pack continued to command the lead and scored an extra goal to add to the tally. At full time it was Wolf pack 6-4 over Sting securing the championship for Division 2 Viking Cup. 1st Wolf Pack Aaron Blackley (Goalie), Shane Anspach, Seth Anspach, Cooper Taylor, Harley Kelly, Thomas Richards, Brenton Pfeiffer, Merrilyn Pfeiffer 2nd Sting 3rd Crusaders 4th Puffing Billies 5th Hilltop Heat Top Scorer Michael Kalambokas Crusaders 9 points Best Goalie Aaron Blackley Wolf Pack 91.6 save percent Most Valuable Player Michael Kalambokas Crusaders 13 points Division 1 In our largest division, we host 6 teams total and ran a Plate and Cup format. In this format, teams played to qualifiers to determine the top 3 teams (Cup) and the bottom 3 teams (Plate) into separate divisions for finals. Division 1 Plate The Plate division included Warriors, Outlaws and Hazard. In a very tight playoff series it was Outlaws finishing on top with Hazard a close second behind, Warriors finished 3rd after a very few close losses. In the grand final, it was Outlaws vs Hazard. The first half was tight with Outlaws with a 1-goal lead over Hazard at the end of the first half 2-1. The second half commenced, and Outlaws continued to control the game adding an additional 3 goals to their score and finishing the game 5-1 1st Outlaws Jayde Hodge (Goalie), Brandon Hodge, Matthew Noble, Caleb Staehr, Ruffino Ruffino, Brad Rowe, Mark Komazec 2nd Hazard 3rd Warriors Top Scorer Matt Noble Outlaws 15 points Best Goalie Jayde Hodge Outlaws 71.6 save percent Most Valuable Player Caleb Staehr Outlaws 13 points (and 7 assists) Division 1 Cup The top three teams where the Generals, Team Pleb and Longhorns entering the Cup division. In the playoff rounds the Generals continued to dominate the tournament finishing 1st and booking their ticket into the Cup grand final game. Team Pleb, secured their 2nd position into the grand final match after knocking out Longhorns who finished 3rd in the Cup division In the grand final, the Generals started off strong dominating the first half and commanding an 8-2 lead at half time and was the first to score in the second half bringing the score to 9-2. Team Pleb kicked it up in the second half and started to dominate the game scoring 7 straight goals to tie up the game 9-9 with 4 minutes to go. 16.01.2022 Dear Tasmanian Inline Hockey Players, I thought I would take the opportunity to write you all a little message about what we as a committee would like to do fo...r you, our members. This year we had intentions of doing some exciting things for Inline Hockey in Tasmania but a little pandemic has interrupted those plans. So here is what we intend to bring to the state over the next year: State league - bringing both ends of the state together Coaches and Referee courses Junior development and possible junior state league Bringing some top level Inline players from the mainland to run player and goalie clinics And of course, aiming to get as many players to represent Tasmania at the next Nationals A major benefit of having you as members, it allows us to apply for Government funding, which in the end, will benefit us all. We want to see the sport that we all love and enjoy, grow within our state. We look forward to seeing you all over the coming year and hope that you all get involved as much as possible. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kinds regards Lisa Pennicott President

12.01.2022 Hockey - What is happening after 1-Dec? Restrictions are still in place stopping community sport from resuming. The target date for community sport to restart i...s 1-Dec and we where expecting to go back instantly. But, the Gawler Sport and Community Centre is a state emergency facility. Due to this status, it has become a COVID testing site. As a COVID testing site, it is not available for hire or use by the public until further notice. Centre Management has informed us that even when 1-Dec comes around, we still may not be allowed to use the facility. Closer to (or on) 1-Dec, we're expecting the Gawler Sport and Community Centre to receive direction on whether they need to be retained as a COVID testing site by the government or whether the state is in a position where we don't have a need for it (and we can go back to using it). Once we know more, we'll provide an update and start making plans on resuming our hockey season asap.

11.01.2022 Our State of Origin series (renamed the "Grunske Cup") wrapped up with Qld claiming the trophy and series win today. Game 1 saw Qld win by one goal, game 2 was ...a draw and game 3 was taken out by NSW leaving a tied series. After an exhaustive penalty shootout in extra time, Qld came away with the win!!!!! What a finale, 3 of the best games of hockey we've seen all season with absolutely nothing in it between the two sides. There were spills, there were thrills, there were roudy support crews in both camps, two teams led by amazingly talented coaches and reffed by our own Mike Grunske (head coach), who is hanging up his boots after this weekend, but leaving on a high. In his words...."I couldn't be prouder of how the kids conducted themselves over the series. When I first thought of this, I had no idea what an awesome spectacle it would become. It took the whole 3 weeks and 15+ shoot-outs to separate the teams by 1 goal. It was played in the right spirit. The skill level and how they now think about the game would be an asset to any team at any level." We all continued to celebrate throughout the afternoon with some swimming, shooting, archery, swinging and axe throwing to top off a great day!! Thank you to everyone for making the "Grunske family send off" a spectacular day... They will certainly be missed by all!!!! Training continues on Wednesdays leading up to the season finale tournament up at Digi later this month......no rest for the wicked!!
