25.01.2022 Full steam ahead with the improvements to the INLOC ranger training camp on Poah Island. Our ranger numbers have now increased to 120 - incorporating all 13 Treaty Villages in the Western Province. We have built more premature structures that will be fitted with guttering, water tanks and better amenities for the steadily growing number of people utilizing these facilities. Well done ranger team!!

24.01.2022 Welcoming a new branch of INLOC - The Crown Of Thorns Starfish Control Program! Stay tuned for more photos and information on how INLOC and our crews are doing our bit to protect the Great Barrier Reef.

23.01.2022 Four Ewamain Rangers recently undertook 4WD training with Paul Boag from INLOC at Talaroo Station. The Rangers loved the practical, hands-on approach and really enjoyed getting onto country and exploring areas safely with this new driving skill.

22.01.2022 TVRP Rangers have now been trained in well construction by INLOC. The Rangers are now back in their communities making good quality wells for safe drinking water. Keep up the great work rangers

21.01.2022 Like all of the Treaty Villages the recent drought was having a terrible impact on the villagers. As part of the efforts to improve the dire situation, TVRP identified that a large 60,000L galvanized steel tank had rusted beyond repair, so the largest village of Mabaduan was missing a vital bit of water infrastructure. So INLOC and the Rangers have replaced the useless old hulk with a new 80,000L tank. The tank is located on Nomando Podo, the hill at the back of Mabuduan. Before the new tank could be installed the jungle trees had to be cleared around the site. TVRP rangers are trained chainsaw operators so they were keen to put their skills to the test.

17.01.2022 The Rangers are continuing their great work on Sanitation and Hygiene we're now at the stage of mass production of the two different types of Ranger brand toilets: the Family toilet (cheaper, uses some traditional materials, affordable for most families), as well as the all-timber Community model for schools and health centres.

17.01.2022 The TVRP won the AUSAid-funded contract to refurbish the hospital in Mabuduan village. So INLOC had the lead on implementation, organising the Rangers to use their skills and training to achieve a high standard. It was never going to be easy: the hospital was falling apart and couldn't provide services in a safe and sanitary manner. Together with the help of a qualified builder, Brad McLucas from Cairns the task was done. INLOC is pretty fussy on having high-quality mentors for th rangers, but Brad had just the right attitude to teach and guide the Rangers. The photos of some parts on the hospital before and after the refurb, and the efforts of the rangers, speak for themselves.

16.01.2022 A fantastic week at Blue Lagoon with the Aurukun APN Rangers. INLOC trainers Paul Boag and Hal Tucker facilitated the Vessel Operator course over 5 days. This involved everything from knots and splicing, safety equipment, outboard motor fault finding and maintenance, navigation, ranger maritime patrols and planning.

16.01.2022 Christmas in Western Province is not going to be full of cheer in 2015. The relentless hot, dry weather that characterizes this time of year is far worse than usual, and much of the country is now in the grip of a second year of drought. Check out the content's of the bottle in the photo below. That's not Ginger Ale, that's Siga village's drinking water from what's left of the main well.

15.01.2022 Graduation Day! All TVRP Rangers have now finished the Basic Ranger Training required to graduate as "RANGER". They will now be working more in their own villages of Sui, Parama, Mabuduan, Sigabaduru, Berr and Buzi. The graduation ceremony in Mabuduan Village was attended by over a thousand villagers and the Hon. Warren Entch MP, Federal Member for Leichhardt. Warren is a great advocate and champion for the TVRP.

15.01.2022 TVRP Rangers have to be resourceful. In a remote area like South Fly District PNG the local hardware store is half a day boat trip away, and supplies are extremely expensive . INLOC has been training TVRP Rangers how to make their own timber from local trees. This timber is now being used for building and fixing toilet blocks, schools and the local health care centre.

14.01.2022 The INLOC team for the Treaty Village Resilience Program has deployed from Australia to Papua New Guinea - what a journey! We used a barge to move over 40 pallets of equipment including all our camp, tools, chainsaws, desalination plant and boats - the list goes on and on. We left Horn Island in Torres Straight with our boats in tow. The weather was fantastic for the first few hours..........then things got rough. It's all part of the challenge of working in remote tropical a...reas in the wet season. We've got the first load onto the island, and the Ranger trainees start soon.

10.01.2022 TVRP is now in full swing. The Rangers have settled into a routine that combines training and working. Improvements have been made to the local village, Mabuduan, and moral is high. The Rangers have been trained in small craft operations to Australian standards. Boating remains the only form of transport here apart from walking so handling boats safely is so important. Ranger training on building basic infrastructure for WASH is already underway, with our camp being the live training ground.

08.01.2022 Villagers in PNG desperately search for fresh water. This footage was taken in Mabuduan, but is typical of the plight of the people in any coastal village in Western Province, PNG.

05.01.2022 Congratulations to the CLCAC Rangers of Normanton and Burketown for completing their training in Chainsaw, ACDC cert II (chemical), First Aid, Participate in OHS processes and Operate Side by Side vehicle. Training was delivered by Darren Mitchell over a 10 day period in September.

04.01.2022 Setting up our training camp on Paho Island in remote PNG was certainly a challenge. The middle of the wet season meant it was either thundering raid or sweltering heat, but the new Rangers really worked well together. These men came together from 6 different villages and are already undertaking work they have never experienced before. But their effort and enthusiasm is fantastic. It's great working with a team that operates this well together. We now have accommodation (tents), a field kitchen, mess hall/classroom, a desalination plant, water storage (5000L bladders) and security cages for all our tools. The planning has paid off and it's now coming together on the ground

02.01.2022 Girl pawa! 12 female rangers have now joined the TVRP Rangers, bringing our total number to 52. Female Rangers are essential to the TVRP and will bring diversity to our team. Just like the men, the women were all selected by the leaders in their own villages. Female Ranger training is very similar to the men's but they will also specialise in female and childhood first aid and WASH aspects. The girls, as they like to refer to themselves, have never been treated on an equal footing with the men before, and they are loving the opportunities this is presenting. Having the girls driving boats is causing quite a stir in the villages, although all favorable, and the male rangers are supporting them fully. We're on a roll.
