07.01.2022 This is what the pristine Toondah Harbour Wetlands looks like. Walter Corporation (with the support of both major parties) want to build 3600 units over the wat...er here. And this is just some of the (socially distanced) Redlands Greens who are fighting to protect it. Ian Mazlin for Oodgeroo, Carmen McNaught for Redlands and Michael Metzen for Capalaba.

07.01.2022 The Incredible Kurt At 1am yesterday morning, Samantha and Nicky, two of our koala rescuers attended this beautiful boy who was struck by a vehicle on a 90...km road. The impact saw him forced through the front grill of the vehicle and into the engine bay. Miraculously he was still alive. It was a delicate process to remove Kurt from the vehicle, unsure as to what injuries he may have sustained. The motorist allowed our rescuers to remove more of the grill so he could be retrieved much more safely. It was a delicate operation to sedate Kurt for this process which ensured he was retrieved as gently and as calm as possible. While sedated, Samantha, a wildlife nurse, gave him a thorough assessment before keeping him calm and comfortable. After a full veterinary assessment by the team at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation unbelievably he has no fractures. He does however have some trauma to his chest and abdomen, and some minor bruising and grazing. What a tough little cookie!. He is spending a few days in hospital on pain medication but is expected to make a full recovery. Once he’s recovered he will be released back to his home in the trees If you do believe you have hit an animal on the road, please pull over immediately where it is safe to do so and check the front and underneath of your car carefully. Please then call us or your local wildlife rescue group immediately. Our Hotline operates 24/7. 07 5527 2444 All images are copyright to Wildcare Australia Inc.
