24.01.2022 Cardio after weights? We do see a few people still doing this so to clear it up a bit, here's the science.... Resistance training activates mTOR pathways within... the body, these are required (in part) for muscle growth to occur. Cardio activates AMPK pathways within the body which are required (in part) to improve cardiovascular endurance. As soon as AMPK is activated, mTOR gets completely shut off. So if you're doing weights and then going straight on the cardio machine to burn a bit of extra fat you're nullifying the results of the hard work you did in the weights room. If for some reason you do want to double train, keep cardio and resistance training as far apart from each other as possible. *Movement is not the friend of adaptation* Have a great day. xo

22.01.2022 CALVES !!!! ...Here's if u wanna torture yourself. You are either born with great calves or you're not. Unfortunately, I'm not. Long tendons + short muscle belly + small bones = skinny calves. Plus, I hated doing legs in my early years. not knowing any better, well, that did not help :-) I struggle to build calves ... plus feet pronation and poor foot mechanics = tightness, trigger points & pain = Deterrent !!..LOL ... I met a guy once who had near perfect diamond shaped calves, and apparently he hardly did any gym work ... LOL so unfair The late Charles Poliquin writes a great article below plus he talks about a few High Volume routines, that is guaranteed to have you crawling on the gym floor in pain . One of them is the Luke Sauder's routine. The first time I did it eons ago, I cld not walk properly for a few days . I have not done it for a long while, but attempted it today .... hmmmmm let's see what sort of pain I'll be in coming days. Give it a go :-) https://strengthsensei.com/everything-will-ever-need-know-/

14.01.2022 RIP to a legend of the Strength & Weight Training world, Charles Poliquin a.k.a. "The Strength Sensei". I have learnt so much from his articles and videos throu...gh his practical and "no bull" approach and with his immense wealth of knowledge. FB newsfeed settings have this option as to which posts to "see first". Well he was my "see first" setting, gonna miss that.. A great loss and as someone commented on a post ..... "he's now showing Jesus how to hit the long head of the triceps effectively now" :-) ... Bless you Charles and thank you for the gift that you were Strength Sensei

01.01.2022 How setting a target can help you progress. At 75 years of age, a month ago he could manage only one chin up. And he made himself a promise, 4 chin ups by Christmas day .. and that below was his 2nd set of 4 reps Well he did it on 23rd Dec, not the best of form, but regardless, gosh what an achievement, well done Hugh.... I don't know of many 75 year olds, who cld manage those chin ups. Shows that age is no match for persistence and determination
