25.01.2022 DUMPLING SOUP We can’t get enough of this at the moment. And with the new ramen bone broth by Nutra Organics added to the curry bone broth by Gevity Rx it’s a super simple whip up for dinner. We added ginger, bok choy, garlic, broccoli, onion, string beans, star anise, fresh basil and mint to a delicious broth with sesame oil, fish sauce, white wine vinegar, tamari and lime juice. Who wants the recipe?! Comment below and I’ll post it soon ... #dumplingsoup #dumplings #nutritionist #nutrition #whatanutritionisteats #bonebroth #guthealth #microbiome #gutfriendly #feedfeed @innerfitnutrition
25.01.2022 ADVANCED FUNCTIONAL TESTING I recently had a client come to see me for interstitial cystitis that has been a problem for 30 yrs!!! He’s had multiple rounds of antibiotics and regular medical tests that keep coming back with no abnormalities detected yet his symptoms persist. After hours of digging, I finally found a test that could be a game changer for his treatment! Just like a Complete GI Map of stool, MicrogenDx in the USA perform the similar concept for urine to get ...to the root cause of his symptoms. After being told he should stay on a low dose antibiotic for the rest of his life (!!!) I’m so glad this client decided against it and is willing to try something new to hopefully give him the answers he’s been looking for! Functional medicine at its best! #testdontguess #functionaltesting #nutrition #nutritionist
23.01.2022 9v9 is baaaaack!!!! It's on again and I’m thrilled to be sharing this challenge with you for the 4th time! There's no better time to do this challenge before the crazy festive season hits. 9V9 is the 9 day challenge created by highly regarded naturopath and nutritionist Helen Padarin and Pip Smith to help you adopt one simple habit that will bring about a multitude of changes to your life! I’ll be taking part too, so come join me!... ~ 9V9 starts on November 16th! And it’s brilliant! You don’t need to cut anything out - just to add more of the good stuff in! 9 cups of veggies a day, for 9 days. That’s it. Yep, you can have your steak - and eat it too! Alcohol you ask? Yes you can still enjoy a drink, its about making sure you hit your 9 cups of veges per day, no need to cut the rest of the things you LOVE out!! We are seeing more and more evidence that people aren’t eating enough vegetables, and are missing out on all the goodness they provide. Consider this: Only 3.2% of 18-24 year olds eat the recommended serve of vegetables each day. Only 5.1% of Australian adults consume the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables (which is set conservatively low as it is). It’s no wonder that we are experiencing an epidemic of compromised immunity, illness and obesity. Our toxic overload has never been higher and we’ve come to think of mental fatigue as normal (SPOILER ALERT: it’s not!). Our bodies are carrying excess weight, our skin is suffering, and we lack the confidence to show our best selves to the world. Over the years I have seen over and over the huge impact that simple changes can have in our bodies - and beyond! Often you may find you have the right motivation and just need a little more information on how to actually take those first few steps. This program was created to empower you to get started in the right direction. 9V9 can help if you’re experiencing one or more of the following symptoms: Bloating Constipation Diarrhoea Autoimmune issues Low energy Craving salty or sugary foods Low libido Afternoon fatigue Poor sleep Afternoon headaches Blood-sugar issues Chronic inflammation Moodiness Difficulty losing weight Thyroid issues Leptin and insulin resistance It's incredible value! For $75 you get Helen and Pip's support over the 9 days, 3 Facebook live chats in the private Facebook group, recipes, meal plans, shopping list and information to help you and your loved ones understand why eating the rainbow is so important, and how to simply do it. The '9V9 Veggie Challenge', is the quickest and easiest way to kick-start health, happiness and healing - all from the comfort of your own home. Come join us! Enrol now. Start the 9V9 Challenge on the 16th November by clicking on the link below https://padarinhealth.teachable.com/?affcode=65804_tvkweuyg See you in there!!!

14.01.2022 TIP 2- EATING WELL WHEN EATING OUT It can be difficult to make heathy decisions at this time of the year when eating out more frequently due to Christmas parties and gatherings. But one thing you can achieve is to ensure you have a protein source with your meals. Protein keeps us fuller for longer, meaning we are less likely to overeat. This Chicken Poke bowl from @rosehotel was last nights dinner for our Christmas party. Full of protein and healthy fats, and was delicious! ... Simple. Healthy. 13.01.2022 GUT LOVIN’ BREAKFAST If you’ve been following IFN for a while now you’d know that breakfast is my absolute favourite meal of the day. There’s something about a hearty breakfast that set you gut for a good day. I’m a savoury girl and having our own chooks means we have an abundance of fresh eggs. So this morning, omelettes it was. ... Under all that green goodness is roast sweet potato (leftovers from last nights roast) enoki mushrooms cooked in bone broth, and fresh basil. Did you know that cooked and cooled overnight root veges are a form of resistant starch? Resistant starch feeds the good bacteria in the gut, with many studies showing including this form of fibre in the diet assists with improved insulin sensitivity, lowering blood sugar levels, and various benefits for digestion such as keeping your bowels regular. I also added @loveyourguts.co beetroot and ginger sauerkraut for all its fermented vege goodness, toasted Pepitas and sesame seeds foot their high zinc levels and healthy fats, avo for its creaminess and HDL cholesterol boosting properties, and of course rocket, a bitter green to stimulate digestion. Simple. Tasty. With calendars filled with events, deadlines, school activities... it’s difficult to not get to wrapped up in the hype and forget that your body feels every bit of the stressors that you do. ... Maybe you’re already feel extra tired and sluggish due to less sleep, more convenience foods, a few too many booze days and it’s not even Christmas week yet! Your bloated, breaking out, moody or emotional? It’s easy to support your body during the festive season and still have a good time, without sliding sideways into the new year feel blah! Over the next week in the lead up to Christmas I’ll be sharing some simple tips, recipes and strategies to keep you happy, healthy and well. Tip # 1 SLOW DOWN To alleviate some stress, write a list of things to achieve for the day in order of priority. Tick them off as you go so that you can see what you have achieved. It’s impossible to achieve everything at once, so taking time to prioritise and actually slowing down will make things far less stressful. So here’s a little Sunday arvo reminder

11.01.2022 The PILL and Sports performance. A great read on how the Pill effects performance. Check it out!
10.01.2022 BLUE LIGHT BLOCKING GLASSES In clinic I spend a lot of time with clients discussing sleep and the importance of adopting good sleep hygiene. Many report that they have a hard time falling asleep or staying asleep, waking multiple times throughout the night. When the sun goes down, your pineal glad secretes melatonin, a hormone that is responsible for making your relaxed and tired, ready for bed. We rely on optimal melatonin levels to facilitate good sleeping patterns. Blu...e light emitted from devices impairs melatonin production, and with so many clients admitting they are online either on their phones, iPads and computers before bed, it’s no wonder they struggle with getting and staying asleep. Even the lights in our homes contain high levels of blue light! Enter blue light blocking glasses There are numerous brands available, some with clear and some with orange lens. I wear clear lends dying the day and these bad boys at night. Both block the blue light emitted from devices and household lighting, and don’t interfere with melatonin production. Studies have also shown that blocking blue light exposure can also have a positive effect on stress levels, balancing hormones and can improve focus. If you use a computer for prolonged periods throughout the day, blue light blocking glasses may prevent eye strain, headaches and eye pain. And if you work late at night, blue light blockers are a MUST! If you’re interested in giving these a try, comment below and I can add some to our next order! Prices start from $69.95

08.01.2022 This is something that happens every single January - and often throughout the year as well. Something inspires you to sort out your health concerns - whether it's your weight, your skin, your energy levels or a health condition. You put together an elaborate plan of changes like dieting, exercise and maybe some supplements to 'fix' the problem.... But the combination of restricting and overcommitting lead to issues such as cravings, 'falling off the wagon', exhaustion and vanishing motivation. You think that it's just you being lazy. You're unmotivated. You're a failure. Overwhelmed with shame, you reach for the things that comfort you - food, alcohol, Netflix sessions, whatever makes you feel better (temporarily at least) But the truth is that this is what everyone goes through. Your body and mind are trying to protect you against the harm that restriction can do. So what if 2021 is the year that you're determined to sort out your weight/skin/low energy/chronic stress? What's the alternative? It all comes down to refreshing your daily habits. What we do every day adds up much quicker than what we do for 2 weeks in January before giving up! If you're ready to take serious steps towards wellbeing, I'm here to help. This February I'll be running my brand-new program, Kickstart To Wellness. Over 6 weeks, you'll learn how to build up healthy habits including: Goal setting Portion sizes Mindful eating Stress management Quality sleep Instead of restricting and eliminating, we focus on how to make healthy and balanced choices - no matter what the circumstances. If you're ready to make real change, let me know below.
07.01.2022 This is something I see in my clinic all the time. You're not just lazy or unmotivated. You don't have to settle for feeling uncomfortable in your own skin. Instead, you need to set health goals that are:... Achievable - even around your busy schedule and hectic lifestyle Measurable - you can track your progress Habit-based - because we are the sum of our daily habits And if you're really struggling, you need support and accountability to kick off your health journey. Sounds like exactly what you need? Keep your eyes peeled for Kickstart To Wellness - I'll be sharing more details soon. Have a friend who needs a little motivation for their goals? Tag them below.

06.01.2022 Warm balmy summer nights and Thai cuttlefish salads Who’s ready to go back to work tomorrow? Like many, I’m pretty keen to get back into some kind of routine. While I’ve kept the exercise up over the break and eaten fairly well, it’s time to get back to regular meals, meditation, structured exercise and knowing what day of the week it is! ... This dinner was so simple and tasted amazing. A perfect share plate that’s full of flavour and nutritious. The perfect way to finish an amazing break Simple. Tasty. 06.01.2022 BRUSSEL SPROUTS..... Yay or Nah ? comment below . .... . I feel like these little guys get a bad wrap like say ..... sardines! But truely it’s all in the way they are cooked and prepared. Tonight I fried these little guys up with butter, garlic and bacon with some @gevity bone broth (check the comments for the one I use and looove ) Did you know that Brussel sprouts are rich in vitamin c, potassium, packed full of fibre and antioxidants, and support the liver and detoxification?! They are also rich in a compound called indole 3 carbinol, and studies have shown that this may assist with blocking aggressive enzymes known to advance cancer growth. How do you cook your sprouts?
06.01.2022 SIBO- Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth SIBO is something we are seeing more and more of in clinic. Clients report that they have battled with digestive issues such as ... Bloating within 30 -40 minutes of eating, and unable to work out exactly which foods are the culprit Burping and belching Poor tolerance of fodmap foods such as apples, garlic, onion, legumes and grains Constipation and diarrhoea or a combination of both- IBS Reflux and heartburn Reactivity to foods that you used to be able to tolerate well Brain fog and fatigue Impaired weight loss Flatulence and abdominal pain Iron deficiency Nutrient deficiencies and their associated illnesses due to poor absorption and assimilation of nutrients But what actually IS SIBO?? The small intestine is a where our food is assimilated and absorbed. When bacteria ferments in the small intestine instead of in the large intestine (where it should be) the above symptoms are experienced. Then what causes SIBO? Low stomach acid production, poor transit time (too long for foods to be digested due to poor migrating motor complex function), and insufficient enzyme production are all possible root causes of why SIBO occurs in the first place. Chronic stress, bouts of gastro and excessive use of proton pump inhibitors (think anti acid medications for reflux) can also be triggers for the condition. As always, treating the gut is paramount to improving our overall health and wellness. If digestive issues have been plaguing you for some time and you have been down the rabbit hole of trying to decifer which foods you are reacting to with no luck - maybe SIBO is what's causing your problems! For more info on functional testing and treating SIBO, please PM for an appointment.
05.01.2022 STRESS AND WEIGHT GAIN Did you know that prolonged chronic stress has a direct influence on your ability to lose weight? Many people present to clinic for weight loss and when questioning them about the stresses in their life, many admit that they have a difficult time managing it. They are close to burn out and carry a lot of weight in their mid section. Some of the key signs of chronic stress and burnout include:... Extreme fatigue, feeling like you ‘have a flat battery’ (even after a long sleep), waking unrefreshed, and difficulty getting out of bed in the mornings. Low immunity, poor resistance to infections and/or recurrent infections such as UTI’s Carrying excess body fat, particularly around the waist Digestive upsets - constipation, diarrhoea, ‘nervous stomach’, indigestion, leaky gut Difficulty sleeping - even when you are exhausted, you can’t relax enough to drop off to sleep, or you wake and can’t fall back asleep easily Low moods/depression, low motivation Concentration issues (often called ‘brain fog’) Hormonal issues - pre-menstrual syndrome, low sex drive etc How stress impacts your weight: Stress can make it easier for you to gain weight, and more difficult to lose weight. There are several reasons why this occurs: Chronic stress makes the body less responsive to the hormones that encourage the burning of fat for energy. This effectively ‘switches on’ mechanisms of fat-storage, and switches off’ the fat-burning hormones, meaning that you tend to store fat more easily, even if you have been watching what you eat. Stress affects the thyroid gland, and can upset the balance of thyroid hormones, which can slow your metabolism down. As mentioned above, stress and fatigue often go hand in hand. When your energy levels have been depleted due to chronic stress, the body encourages you to provide it with a quick energy boost - usually in the form of an easily absorbed sugar, chocolate or other carbohydrate food. These foods will give you a temporary energy boost that might help in the moment, but in the long run they will continue to deplete your body of energy. So if you are experiencing any of the above symptoms and need support with weight loss, have a look at your stress levels and how you can better manage them. You are not alone! Reach out if you need support, and PM us for more info. #stress #stressfree #adrenals #adrenalsupport #nutrition #nutritionist #health #holistichealth #naturalhealing
