25.01.2022 The kids often share a platter like this for lunch Today all that was left was half a snow pea and two pieces of capsicum! They sit and eat for a bit, then they go off to play but come back in between playing to grab a few more veggie sticks. It's such a low pressure way for me to get veggies into them Then later when they're tired at dinner I don't have to worry too much about how much green veg is getting eaten
24.01.2022 I'm back! I've been spending time with my family and catching up on some much needed sleep I hope you've all been keeping well and have been looking after yourselves I know many of you have some extra stress at the moment, but it could also be a wonderful opportunity to make some changes and make sure you are really looking after you. Aside from catching up on some sleep, I've also gotten into a great new exercise at home routine which I'll continue once we are allowed to be out and about again! We've also been experimenting in finding new meals everyone can enjoy. If you'd like help getting into great new eating habits you can book a Zoom or phone consultation with me
24.01.2022 I needed a new idea for lunches! I decided that a cold rice noodle salad might be nice...and of course I didn't bother using a recipe Hopefully it is well received by the MasterChef judges a.k.a my family
22.01.2022 I'm making pasta today to have with my Nonna's goulash recipe No pasta machine here so they're getting my cut by hand, close enough is good enough, fettuccine
18.01.2022 Lunchbox sorted for tomorrow and coloured pasta spirals drying ready to make necklaces I'd always thought this would be a messy activity...but just add some white vinegar and food colour to a ziplock bag with the dry pasta, and shake!
15.01.2022 Saturday morning has been spent outside running around and enjoying the weather finally getting warmer The kids enjoyed a warm apple loaf for breakfast, and lunch is a platter to share
14.01.2022 Off to a playdate with snacks ...I asked the girls to smile
14.01.2022 We have a lot of overnight oats for breakfast in winter (served nice and hot!). This week I've made a toasted seed mix just for something different as a topping I've used sunflower seeds, pepitas, flaxseeds, chia and shredded coconut with a little pinch of Himalayan salt, stevia and cinnamon. Just add dry to a non-stick pan on medium heat and keep moving until lightly toasted. Part of the enjoyment for them is also adding their own 'breakfast sprinkles' on top
13.01.2022 I'm cooking up a big pot of lentil veggie soup today. So easy and healthy! The kids will have it for dinner tonight with a little bit of toast or jaffles and they'll be very happy
13.01.2022 The kids had homemade sushi for dinner last night which is always a hit! I'm often asked whether sushi is 'healthy' or 'unhealthy'. It can be both really Fried fillings aren't that healthy, but other fillings like raw fish or cooked fish or prawns are pretty good for you. The seaweed is definitely good for you, however the rice is usually prepared with added sugar So like any other food, it's a matter of deciding whether it fits with your current nutrition and calorie needs It's definitely one of the foods I like to eat out, however I do use stevia to sweeten the rice at home rather than sugar.
10.01.2022 Miss 6: I want a different lunch today please! Me: Ok, what different food would you like? Miss 6: No...the same foods, just in a different lunchbox...I feel like a change ... Me: Oh...I see
05.01.2022 Today's cooking...lentil potato pumpkin curry, pumpkin & zucchini fritters, and pumpkin soup Pumpkins were on sale
02.01.2022 First day back at school! I hope everyone has a great day and a smooth transition into this change
01.01.2022 Our late morning snack platter I find a good portion of vegetable eating is timing. I like to offer veggies nice and early while they're still starving and not too tired. If I wait until dinner to try and get a good vegetable intake in, I've usually got no hope A platter means they will keep grazing as they play as well! And yes...we went a little gherkin crazy today
