25.01.2022 This dad totally gets it- refusing to put limitations on his autistic son and trying to see the world from his perspective. "It's like I'm being led by the hand by my child, not the other way around"

25.01.2022 Art therapy allows people with autism their own time and space to be themselves

24.01.2022 Art can help acknowledge and heal your pain without trying to fix it

23.01.2022 Turn your pain into to PURPOSE Your hurt is not WORTHLESS ART is the alchemy of life Allow your shadows to rise to the SURFACE ... Navigating being a man in a world waking up to all the pain, trauma that has been suppressed for generations is not easy. To OWN aspects of ourselves that have been denied or rejected, to illuminate our own shadow and take ownership of it ALL is the path we get to walk. The work starts with US and facing off, with the emotions and behaviours we do our best to avoid. If you want to learn more about Man Cave and The Conscious Man Brotherhood, Preston Smiles & myself will be hosting a LIVE Q&A Zoom call (zoom is a free video app like Skype) this Sunday, July 14th at 9am AEST. You can join the call with this link https://zoom.us/j/475062022 See more

22.01.2022 For those that suffer chronic pain, grief and depression, creativity can be the key that can unlock your life again

21.01.2022 this! I've been pondering at my art therapy conference all week how much western psychology has to learn from indigenous cultures about traditional methods of healing.... Story, music, dance and the arts.... And how indigenous Australians might be able to reconnect with these methods to heal their own greif trauma and loss.

14.01.2022 This! Art therapy is a great way for those who a neurologically different to discover their strengths and talents

14.01.2022 Yes, the education scene needs to adapt to the changes we are seeing in our kids. ADHD is not ‘bad’ at all! It is just a different way of thinking thatcan be channeled into fantastic talent and skill When these kids are given the right tools Adapted to their learning style!

14.01.2022 Love this, thanks Jack

11.01.2022 While the NDIS is providing greater opportunities for some, it has forgotten about one truely innovative program for kids with complex needs that should be the blueprint for other children's disability services around the country. Clyde st, my workplace of the last 10 years is in danger of shutting down due to a gap in NDIS. After 10 year working across a number of disability services, I can safely say that the program offered at Clyde st is the most innovative and successfu...l program for kids with complex behaviour needs and their families. It is not simply a respite service it's a unique and specialised program dedicated to improving not only the children's behaviour and life skills but the well-being of themselves, their family, the entire community, giving them an unparalleled opportunity for growth and learning. This service should not only be supported by the NDIS but it should be funded to be rolled out across the country as a wonderfully successful intervention for children with complex needs. Please help fight to close the gap for this in other specialised programs that the NDIS has failed to recognise! See more

10.01.2022 When I was at the baat art therapy conference in London recently I was lucky enough to participate in a workshop by the great art therapy writer Marion lieberman. She spoke about the layers of anger and how under every moment of anger there is a hidden emotion and under that emotion lies an unmet need. By making art i peeled back the layers of what seemed like a menial instance where I got angry because I lost a jacket.... However by peeling back the layers I was able to find the unmet need which shook me to my core... feelings of abandonment. It showed me that even under the smallest bouts of anger lies deep desire for love and long unmet needs. Take the time to peel back your layers to help you find your truth so you can finally heal

09.01.2022 Great idea for calming looming climate anxiety... I was just in Europe experiencing with them their hottest summer ever, feeling the humidity from melting ice caps.... I might just need to do this!

09.01.2022 While the NDIS is not perfect, I have had the pleasure of seeing clients, particularly those with a developmental disability, rapidly develop, engage with the world around them and accept their true selves despite their differences. it is being so incredibly amazing and heartwarming to see one of my art therapy clients Ayla, who suffers dozens of seizures a day, become more engaged and alive through engagement in art, rapidly developing from a scribble to full facial schema in under a month ! We are all as proud of her as she is of herself.... Go Ayla!

08.01.2022 Anyone can suffer from sensory integration issues its not only linked to autism and other neurological disorders but is also entangled with childhood trauma, which can affect any of us. Walk in their shoes for a minute...

08.01.2022 Scienceworks has a temporary sensory light exhibition on an ideal holiday outing for children with a sensory processing disorder!

07.01.2022 One of the most beautiful explanations I have seen a what it's like to have autism. Let's embrace and encourage exploration of their individuality rather than repressing it!

07.01.2022 While the NDIS not perfect and often families are fighting for the right funding, I have had the pleasure of see my art therapy clients, particularly those with a developmental disability, rapidly develop their skills and emotional intelligence, engaging with the world around them and accepting their true selves and all their differences. One of these amazing people, Ayla, has faced adversity her entire life, suffering dozens of epileptic seizures everyday. I have watched with awe as she went from struggling to engage, to never wanting to finish and moving from a scribble to a full facial schema in under a month! Me and her family are proud of her as she is of herself.... Breaking down boundaries to help her fly- the sky is not even the limit! Go Ayla!

03.01.2022 Did you know? Art Therapy is a recognised and funded allied health service with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)? It is! The NDIS acknowledges that sufficient and high quality #evidence exists to support the use of art therapy for people with disabilities. Here are a few more important #facts about art therapy and the #NDIS. 1. NDIS clients can include a request for funding for art therapy services on their plan... 2. Only art therapy clinicians who are current Registered art therapists that are members of ANZACATA (our governing body) are eligible to provide art therapy as a therapy service and early childhood intervention support under the NDIS 3. Sometimes, clients are denied access to NDIS funding for art therapy because of the spread of misinformation. Aa art tyerspists, we are working hard to help NDIA staff and planners from other agencies get the knowledge they need to help our shared clients access the services they ask for. 5. Art therapy is positively changing the lives of people with a disability through the NDIS! Tag a friend, colleague, planner or organisation that needs to know more about art therapy and the NDIS. If you are receiving art therapy services through the NDIS, please help spread the word to your planners and peers about the great benefits of art therapy! And to find a registered artists therapist, contact Innersense Sensory Art Therapy at www.innersensorium.com or head to www.anzacata.org to find a Registered Art Therapist who can help you.
