23.01.2022 The Inner South Canberra Community Council and Fyshwick Business Association want the cumulative impact of waste proposals assessed and a planning review of Fyshwick that reflects what they see as its evolving character. Good summary by Riot-ACT of our position. The proponents of the CRS waste facility in Ipswich Street in Fyshwick have known for years about the strong local community and business opposition to their proposal, which is more about redirecting waste from one ...landfill to another rather than recycling. It was completely predictable that the issue would head in this direction. https://the-riotact.com/labor-stance-puts-planning-a/403840

13.01.2022 ‘Add into this already congested mix an estimated 1500 extra cartage truck movements per day, most of them heavily-laden "truck and dog" B-doubles, as outlined in a development proposal for an "integrated resource recovery centre" in Tennant Street, and opponents say it's a recipe for a safety and traffic nightmare.’ https://www.canberratimes.com.au//traffic-jam-fears-fuel-/
13.01.2022 ‘Bike lanes on trunk roads lead motorists to pass closer to cyclists and may not provide enough protection for riders, a study of Canberra road behaviour has found. 07.01.2022 We love trucks and truck drivers - they are the lifeblood of Fyshwick. But trucks of this size 148 times an hour - one every 24 seconds - is TOO MUCH. Our stre...ets were not designed for this. SAY NO! to large scale waste facilities in Fyshwick. Join us at Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets on Thursday 17th September at 12.15pm to hear why we still have to fight to stop these inappropriate developments. See more

06.01.2022 It’s really important to get the planning right for the Kingston Arts Precinct, which encompasses the area around the Glassworks and Fitters Workshop. According to this Canberra Times article, several heritage experts have taken aim at current plans for the Precinct: "While this development has undergone numerous planning studies over many years that have respected its heritage values, the current proposed design shows a complete lack of respect for the historic buildings, pa...rticularly through over-development of the site," the group says in the letter. "The proposal should be fundamentally rethought and a fully sympathetic development implemented." https://www.canberratimes.com.au//heritage-experts-call-f/

03.01.2022 How can it be that urban vegetation declined much more sharply between 2013 and 2020 in Canberra than in any other capital city in Australia? This was at the same time as the ACT Government committed to strong action to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. https://canberraweekly.com.au/plans-to-plant-half-a-millio/

02.01.2022 Sunday’s debate will undoubtedly draw plenty of questions around the waste recycling stoush but also the broader context of planning and development and whether residents have a meaningful say in development outcomes. https://the-riotact.com/inner-south-battle-over-wast/405330
