25.01.2022 A fellow named Dick McDick has this rather spirited response to little Greta, who asks how we dare ruin her life.
24.01.2022 Beautiful read! Did you know that when Einstein gave some lecture at the numerous US universities, the recurring question that students asked him was: - Do you... believe. In God? And he always answered: - I believe in the God of Spinoza. The one who hadn't read Spinoza stayed in the same... I hope this gem of history, serves you as much as it does me: Baruch de Spinoza was a Dutch philosopher considered one of the three great rationalists of the 17th century philosophy, along with the French Descartes. Here's some of him. This is the God or nature of Spinoza: God would have said: Stop praying and punching yourself in the chest! What I want you to do is go out into the world and enjoy your life. I want you to enjoy, sing, have fun and enjoy everything I've made for you. Stop going to those dark, cold temples that you built yourself and say they are my house! My house is in the mountains, in the woods, rivers, lakes, beaches. That's where I live and there I express my love for you. Stop blaming me for your miserable life; I never told you there was anything wrong with you or that you were a sinner, or that your sexuality was a bad thing! Sex is a gift I have given you and with which you can express your love, your ecstasy, your joy. So don't blame me for everything they made you believe. Stop reading alleged sacred scriptures that have nothing to do with me. If you can't read me in a sunrise, in a landscape, in the look of your friends, in your son's eyes... you will find me in no book! Trust me and stop asking me. Will you tell me how to do my job? Stop being so scared of me. I do not judge you, I criticize you, nor get angry, or bother, or punishment. I am pure love. Stop asking for forgiveness, there's nothing to forgive. If I made you... I filled you with passions, limitations, pleasures, feelings, needs, inconsistencies... free will. How can I blame you if you respond to something I put in you? How can I punish you for being the way you are, if I'm the one who made you Do you think I could create a place to burn all my children who behave badly for the rest of eternity? What kind of god can do that? Forget any kind of commandments, any kind of laws; those are wiles to manipulate you, to control you, that only create guilt in you. Respect your peers and don't do what you don't want for yourself. All I ask is that you pay attention in your life, that your alert is your guide. My beloved, this life is not a test, not a step, not a step in the way, not a rehearsal, nor a prelude to paradise. This life is the only thing here and now and all you need. I have set you absolutely free, no prizes or punishments, no sins or virtues, no one carries a marker, no one keeps a record. You are absolutely free to create in your life heaven or hell. I could tell you if there's anything after this life but I can give you a tip. Live as if there is no. As if this is your only chance to enjoy, to love, to exist. So, if there's nothing, then you will have enjoyed the opportunity I gave you. And if there is, rest assured that I won't ask if you behaved right or wrong, I'll ask. Did you like it? Did you have fun? What did you enjoy the most? What did you learn?... Stop believing in me; believing is assuming, guessing, imagining. I don't want you to believe in me, I want you to feel in you. I want you to feel me in you when you kiss your beloved, when you tuck your little girl, when you caress your dog, when you bathe in the sea. Stop praising me, what kind of egomaniac God do you think I am? I'm bored being praised, I'm tired of being thanked. Feeling grateful? Prove it by taking care of you, your health, your relationships, the world. Feeling looked at, shocked?... Express your joy! That's the way to praise me. Stop complicating things and repeating as a parakeet what you've been taught about me. The only thing for sure is that you are here, that you are alive, that this world is full of wonders. What do you need more miracles for? Why so many explanations? look for me outside, you won't find me. Find me inside... there I am beating on you. Spinoza.
24.01.2022 My heart was warmed at Wal-Mart during lunch. This gentleman's items were scanned and he was given the total. He looks apologetically back at me and starts taki...ng handfuls of change out of his pockets. He miscounts and starts to get flustered. Gives me a muttered, "I'm so sorry." His hands and voice are shaking. This beautiful cashier takes his hands and dumps all the change on the counter and says, "This is not a problem, honey. We will do this together." He continues to apologize to both of us as we reassure him it's ok. They get his transaction handled and he shuffles away. I looked at this wonderful woman and said, "Thank-you for being so patient with him." She shakes her head and replies, "You shouldn't have to thank me, baby. What's wrong with our world is we've forgotten how to love one another." I want to be more like her. Credit: Spring Herbison Bowlin
24.01.2022 A rich father who wanted his son to know what it was like to be poor brought him to live with a farming family for a few days. The child stayed there for 3 days... and 3 nights. Back in the car on their way to the town, his father asked him: "And your experience?" "Fine," replied the boy. "Did you learn anything?" The boy then explained: "1 We have a dog and they have four of them. 2 We have a pool with treated water. They have a river with crystal clear water, fish and other good things 3 We have electric lights in our garden, but they have the stars and the moon to light them up. 4 Our garden extends to the fence. Theirs up to the horizon. 5 We buy our food; they cultivate, harvest and cook it. 6 We listen to CDs ... they hear a sustained symphony of birds, crickets and other animals ... ... all this, sometimes accompanied by the singing of a neighbour who works on the farm. 7 We use the microwave. What they cook tastes much better cooked on a slow fire. 8 We are surrounded by alarm fences to protect ourselves ... They live with open doors, protected by the friendship of their neighbours. 9 We are connected to the telephone, computer and television. They are in communion with life, sky, sun, water, fields, animals, friends and families. " The father was impressed with his son's feelings. Then finally the son comes to the conclusion: "Thanks for showing me how poor we are! Every day we get poorer because we no longer look at nature !!! " If you like it, you can share it I've already shared it too. See more
24.01.2022 FACTS OF THE DAY .... Cucumbers... I didn't know this... and to think all these years I've only been making salads with the cucumbers... 1. Cucumbers contai...n most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc. 2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours. 3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance. 4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area. 5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!! 6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!! 7. Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation. 8. Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water. 9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone! 10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber will react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams. 11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemicals will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath. 12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your taps, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean. 13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!! Pass this along to everybody you know who is looking for better and safer ways to solve life's everyday problems

21.01.2022 The current way doctors treat heart disease is misguided because they treat the risk factors not the causes. To think we can treat heart disease by lowering ch...olesterol, lowering blood pressure and lowering blood sugar with medication is like mopping up the floor while the sink overflows. Instead, we need to ask what causes these risk factors like high blood pressure, high blood sugar or abnormal cholesterol in the first place. Spoiler alert: These are not medication deficiencies! We treat these problems with medication, but studies have increasingly shown that treating these risk factors has only little benefit, or none at all. Research shows changing your lifestyle can be a more powerful intervention to prevent heart disease than any medication. The EPIC study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine studied how 23,000 people adhered to four simple behaviors: Not smoking, exercising 3.5 hours a week, eating a healthy diet and maintaining a healthy weight. Adhering to those four behaviors alone prevented 93 percent of diabetes, 81 percent of heart attacks, 50 percent of strokes, and 36 percent of all cancers. Other research shows lifestyle intervention becomes more effective than almost any other traditional medical intervention to reduce cardiovascular disease, hypertension, heart failure, stroke, cancer, diabesity and deaths from all causes. Your environment, in turn, changes gene expression, subsequently modulating inflammation, oxidative stress and metabolic dysfunction. These are the reasons we get sick and develop heart disease along with other problems. That’s actually good news. Addressing and fixing the root causes benefits most chronic disease. See more
20.01.2022 There is a famous story in the Taoist tradition about a farmer who had worked his crops for many years: One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his ...neighbors came to visit. Such bad luck, they said sympathetically. Maybe, the farmer replied. The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. How wonderful, the neighbors exclaimed. Maybe, replied the old man. The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy for what they called his misfortune. Maybe, answered the farmer. The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. Maybe, said the farmer. There are many ways to interpret this story. The most obvious is that no single event, in and of itself, can be judged as good or bad, right or wrong, lucky or unlucky. We can only get the full perspective after time has passedand even then, it might change again. But another takeaway is the importance of staying present and not getting too carried away by the stories we tell ourselves about what is happening in our lives. It’s an invitation to cultivate detachment and fortitude as a means of experiencing more equanimity in the face of the ever-changing circumstances. This has been a crazy year. With the COVID-19 pandemic, intense social unrest, and most recently, the election, it seems like every day has brought some news that threatens our sense of stability and safety. In a world like this, perhaps we can learn something from the farmer in the Taoist story. We can take steps to center ourselves and stay grounded amid the chaos and tumult that surrounds us. Meditation, time outdoors, and physical activity are my go-to strategies for cultivating this resilience and equanimity. What are yours? Chris Kresser

19.01.2022 By now, most of my readers probably know how I feel about dairy it’s nature’s perfect food but only if you’re a calf. We have no biological requirement for ...this food, and yet, we’ve been told over and over again that dairy is a great source of calcium, milk makes healthy bones and we should drink it daily. I’m here to tell you that this is not true. Based on research and my experience practicing medicine, I typically advise most of my patients to avoid dairy products completely. Not to mention, upwards of 65% of the world’s population are lactose intolerant after infancy! Cow’s milk is not nature’s perfect food for human adults, despite what the lobbying efforts of the dairy industry say. I often find that symptoms of lactose intolerance are actually caused by difficulty digesting casein, the main protein found in milk, which is often used in other food products as a binding agent. Casein proteins can actually induce inflammation leading to things like eczema, ear infections, congestion, and sinus problems. So, I highly recommend avoiding casein, no matter who you are. If you do consume dairy, always choose grass-fed. If you’re going to consume butter or other dairy products, remember that grass-fed is best. The milk these cows produce has an omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of 1:1 which is optimal. Conventionally raised cows eat grains and other crops that make their fatty acid profiles more inflammatory. The milk they produce and as a result the butter and cheese made from it contains more omega-6 fats. See more

17.01.2022 '' BANANAS...'' A very interesting FACTS Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!... This is interesting. After reading this, you'll never look at a bana...na in the same way again. Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet. DEPRESSION: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier. PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood. ANEMIA: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia. BLOOD PRESSURE: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke. BRAIN POWER: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert. CONSTIPATION: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives. HANGOVERS: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system. HEARTBURN: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief. MORNING SICKNESS: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness. MOSQUITO BITES: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation. NERVES: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.. Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady. ULCERS: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach. TEMPERATURE CONTROL: Many other cultures see bananas as a 'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature. So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has FOUR TIMES the protein, TWICE the carbohydrate, THREE TIMES the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals.. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, 'A BANANA a day keeps the doctor away!' PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS... PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit !!!

16.01.2022 This old lady handed her bank card to the teller and said I would like to withdraw $10. The teller told her for withdrawals less than $100, please use the AT...M. The old lady wanted to know why... The teller returned her bank card and irritably told her these are the rules, please leave if there is no further matter. There is a line of customers behind you. The old lady remained silent for a few seconds and handed her card back to the teller and said please help me withdraw all the money I have. The teller was astonished when she checked the account balance. She nodded her head, leaned down and respectfully told her you have $1,300,000 in your account but the bank doesn’t have that much cash currently. Could you make an appointment and come back again tomorrow? The old lady then asked how much she could withdraw immediately. The teller told her any amount up to $3000. Well please let me have $3000 now. The teller kindly handed $3000 very friendly and with a smile to her. The old lady put $10 in her purse and asked the teller to deposit $2,990 back into her account. The moral of this story is.... Don’t be difficult with old people, they spent a lifetime learning the skill.

15.01.2022 "Imagine you were born in 1900. On your 14th birthday, World War I starts, and ends on your 18th birthday. 22 million people perish in that war. Later in the ye...ar, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs until your 20th birthday. 50 million people die from it in those two years. Yes, 50 million. On your 29th birthday, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, the World GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. The country nearly collapses along with the world economy. When you turn 39, World War II starts. You aren’t even over the hill yet. And don’t try to catch your breath. On your 41st birthday, the United States is fully pulled into WWII. Between your 39th and 45th birthday, 75 million people perish in the war. At 50, the Korean War starts. 5 million perish. At 55 the Vietnam War begins and doesn’t end for 20 years. 4 million people perish in that conflict. On your 62nd birthday you have the Cuban Missile Crisis, a tipping point in the Cold War. Life on our planet, as we know it, should have ended. Great leaders prevented that from happening. When you turn 75, the Vietnam War finally ends. Think of everyone on the planet born in 1900. How do you survive all of that? When you were a kid in 1985 and didn’t think your 85 year old grandparent understood how hard school was. And how mean that kid in your class was. Yet they survived through everything listed above. Perspective is an amazing art, refined as time goes on, and enlightening like you wouldn’t believe. Let’s try and keep things in perspective." 14.01.2022 I love this story from Katharine Hepburn’s childhood; in her own words. Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for th...e circus. Finally, there was only one other family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. The way they were dressed, you could tell they didn't have a lot of money, but their clothes were neat and clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly jabbering about the clowns, animals, and all the acts they would be seeing that night. By their excitement you could sense they had never been to the circus before. It would be a highlight of their lives. The father and mother were at the head of the pack standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand, looking up at him as if to say, "You're my knight in shining armor." He was smiling and enjoying seeing his family happy. The ticket lady asked the man how many tickets he wanted? He proudly responded, "I'd like to buy eight children's tickets and two adult tickets, so I can take my family to the circus." The ticket lady stated the price. The man's wife let go of his hand, her head dropped, the man's lip began to quiver. Then he leaned a little closer and asked, "How much did you say?" The ticket lady again stated the price. The man didn't have enough money. How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight kids that he didn't have enough money to take them to the circus? Seeing what was going on, my dad reached into his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill, and then dropped it on the ground. (We were not wealthy in any sense of the word!) My father bent down, picked up the $20 bill, tapped the man on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket." The man understood what was going on. He wasn't begging for a handout but certainly appreciated the help in a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation. He looked straight into my dad's eyes, took my dad's hand in both of his, squeezed tightly onto the $20 bill, and with his lip quivering and a tear streaming down his cheek, he replied; "Thank you, thank you, sir. This really means a lot to me and my family." My father and I went back to our car and drove home. The $20 that my dad gave away is what we were going to buy our own tickets with. Although we didn't get to see the circus that night, we both felt a joy inside us that was far greater than seeing the circus could ever provide. That day I learnt the value to Give. The Giver is bigger than the Receiver. If you want to be large, larger than life, learn to Give. Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get - only with what you are expecting to give - which is everything. The importance of giving, blessing others can never be over emphasized because there's always joy in giving. Learn to make someone happy by acts of giving. ~ Katharine Hepburn See more
14.01.2022 "A little mom perspective: I sat behind these moms at my daughter’s volleyball game the other day that didn’t know who I was. While Victoria was playing, they p...ersisted to comment on everything she did wrong and how with that height she should be doing a.b.c., why would the coach leave her in, etc. They were basically acting like they knew her and talked in such a justified manner. I sat there fuming and almost ready to say something or cry, but instead just got up and moved seats. In that moment I didn’t know what to say or if the words would come out right. As I’ve thought about it, I decided to share my thoughts here: I wanted to tell them: Do you know she’s only been playing on a team for six months? Do you know she’s blind in one eye? And has ZERO depth perception to even be able to hit the ball? Do you know she cried for days thinking she would never be good enough? Do you know she practiced 8 hours a week this summer so she could improve enough to even try out for the team? Do you know she is doing so FREAKING amazing, and do you know she’s my daughter??? Do you know it’s women like you that don’t know anything about how to build up another person and teach your daughters it’s ok to talk about other girls like this? Just a friendly mom note: Remember before you speak or choose to judge someone ... do you get that right? Do you know their story? Have you lived in their shoes? Choose kindness! Choose Love! And for the love of all things good in the world... don’t be so quick to open your mouth to talk about someone you truly know nothing about! Credit: http://instagram.com/leanna_hunt/
10.01.2022 Dog Poisoned by the Diffuser Saturday night I got home late and my dog didn't recognize me. Being a nanny I thought I woke him up and he was having a night terr...or. Sunday, he was still acting weird. I realized that I had been running my new diffuser and decided to turn it off. Sunday afternoon, he was feeling better. Today at work, my dog sitter said that he wouldn't come out from under the bed. It was very odd as he is a happy dog. I came from work early and again, he was very confused about who I was. So I took him to emergency vet. It turns out that the tea tree oil I was using in the diffuser is toxic for dogs. Thankfully the test showed that his liver was ok but we weren't out of the woods yet. 08.01.2022 Couple spends a year trying to rescue a stray dog watch him walk into their house for the first time
07.01.2022 THE COOLEST THING YOU WILL EVER READ Did you know.....?? They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day ...it was taken & sold to the tannery. If you had to do this to survive you were "piss poor." But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot; they "didn't have a pot to piss in" & were the lowest of the low. The next time you are washing your hands & complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be. Here are some facts about the 1500s. Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June. Since they were starting to smell, however, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married. Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women, and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it . . . hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water!" Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof, resulting in the idiom, "It's raining cats and dogs." There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed, therefore, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence. The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt, leading folks to coin the phrase "dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way, subsequently creating a "thresh hold." In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire.. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while, and thus the rhyme, "Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old." Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, "bring home the bacon." They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and "chew the fat." Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous. Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the "upper crust." Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial.. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up, creating the custom of holding a wake. England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive, so they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, saved by the bell or was considered a dead ringer. And that's the truth. Now, whoever said History was boring?

05.01.2022 Don't forget to look up on Monday night! Jupiter and Saturn are set to align on December 21 to create a once-in-a-lifetime 'Christmas star'. This event, know...n as a great conjunction, happens about once every 20 years, but closeness of the two planets makes this a very rare conjunction. With only about a 10th of a degree separating the two planets that's a fifth of the width of the Moon this is the closest they will have appeared in the sky to each other in nearly 400 years. The last time it occurred was in 1623. Assuming the weather is clear, you'll be able to see the spectacle with the naked eye, about an hour after sunset. But be quick - it'll only be visible for an hour or so before disappearing below the western horizon. (Please note: This is the view from the Northern Hemisphere. Being in the Southern Hemisphere the view would be the opposite, with Jupiter on the left and Saturn on the right.) Full story: http://ab.co/34pXGuh
05.01.2022 So I was at the store earlier with my service dog. The lady in front of me at checkout had about $200 worth of toilet paper in her shopping cart. With an attitu...de she asked me what type of dog I had. I told her it was my service dog. Then she got real snarky and said, I knew that. What type of service? I said he was a BLD. By now he was licking her face and hands being super friendly. She said, what is a BLD? I told her it stood for Butt Licking Dog. She said Butt Licking Dog? I said yeah, he has been trained to lick my butt clean because I can't seem to be able to find toilet paper because of hoarders. The cashier completely lost it. #humour #joke #lmao #sorrytofunnynottoshare #stophoardingtolietpaper See more
04.01.2022 AUG 31ST UPDATE: So many of you have been asking for another update and continue to send so many good thoughts our way- thank you. The good news is that our boy...'s viral markers look to be decreasing. The not so good news is that his autoimmune markers are now positive (they had been negative thus far), which means that we are now dealing with an autoimmune disorder. We are so lucky to have an incredible pediatric rheumatologist who is getting close to figuring out what we're dealing with, but what we do know is that we have a chronic condition on our hands now. Our pediatrician said it best when he said- Five years from now, it may be common knowledge that some kids have reactions like this to COVID-19 or that certain autoimmune diseases are triggered in children. We just don't know what we don't know. Don't let your guards down. In our city, cases are finally declining and it's because masks work. JULY 25TH UPDATE: Thank you so much for all of the love and prayers for our warrior. We are grateful to report that he is beginning to show some signs of improvement- his fevers are slightly lower and his appetite is a little better. We will continue working with our pediatrician, Infectious Disease, Immunology and Rheumatology specialists until he is back to doing parkour and running on the soccer field. Please continue to wear masks and social distance. We’re all in this together ....................................... In March, our entire family became sick with COVID-like symptoms. Our oldest son started with fever, sore throat, nausea, headache and mild cough. Within 48 hours, all 5 of us were sick. Our 8 year old was last to start with symptoms and his case was the most mild of all of ours. If it hadn’t been for the entire family being sick and the threat of COVID, I wouldn’t have even called the pediatrician. We waited until day 7 to have him tested. He was the only one of us still sick. He tested negative for both flu and COVID. We figured it was just a case of bad luck and a nasty virus and waited for it to pass. On day 14, I urged our 8 year old to come for a walk with me. He’d been in bed for two weeks and I thought he’d feel better if he got up and started moving a little. We got 3 blocks into our walk and my soccer playing, American ninja loving, constantly moving boy asked to go home because he was tired. He wasn’t even sure if he could make it the 3 blocks back to the house. He had to sit on the curb. When we did get home, I called the pediatrician again. Today is July 10th and it marks day 108 for our boy. He runs a fever every day. We have blackout curtains and extra blankets hung on his windows because sometimes his head hurts so bad that any splinter of light feels like a knife. He has lost 10 pounds and now takes medication to keep his appetite up and drinks Orgain for calories. He has muscle pain and aches. He feels like he will pass out if we try a bike ride or walk on a trail near our house. He climbs in the pool with his brothers for a few minutes but then gets chills and crawls back under the blankets in his room until he’s warm again. He gets nauseous being in the car for any duration. He’s exhausted. All of the time. But he has trouble sleeping because he feels so awful. He’s 8 and doesn’t have enough energy to play outside, ride his bike, read a book or stand up for too long. He’s been through an onslaught of tests, lab work and procedures to rule out pretty much anything that could possibly cause these symptoms for this long. Every single test has come back normal. His chest xray gave the only clue- peribronchial thickening indicative of COVID. He barely had a cough. I write this because I’m sick of hearing people complain about wearing a mask or rattle off a talking point about children not being affected by COVID. It’s true that children are not dying at a high rate. What’s not true is that children have not died. And what is also categorically false is that children are not affected. I’m seeing it with my own eyes. We don’t know if our son’s illness will last another week or if this is now a chronic condition. No one can tell us. No one has the answers. The truth is, we don’t know what this disease does yet. We have only just begun to understand how COVID-19 acts in the early phases. We are clueless as to what this virus does to our bodies, and our children’s bodies in the long run. So, please. Stay home if you’re able. Don’t go to Disney when it opens. Don’t throw birthday parties and invite all the friends. Don’t follow the advice of politicians. Wear a freaking mask. These are not hard things. You can do it. I believe in you. There’s an 8 year old in Florida that has been in bed for 108 days and he believes in you too. EDITED TO ADD: 1. For those asking what they can do, all we ask is that you follow CDC recommendations and take precautions to slow community spread. 2. For those inquiring about other diagnoses, we have been through complete work ups for 100s of other potential causes and are very confident in our team of doctors and health care providers. 3. For those confused about a negative COVID test result but evidence of the virus on radiological findings, I'd encourage you to do some digging on your own. False negatives are not all that uncommon and the pediatric population has not been widely tested in the US. He was tested once in March, 7 days after his fever began and when the test was negative, COVID was tabled and the specialists moved on to ruling out other causes- as was appropriate. Once all of those potential causes were ruled out through EXTENSIVE testing (cancer, mono, meningitis, diabetes, bartonella, fever syndromes, autoimmune disorders, other infections, PANS, Lyme etc), we've come back to the original thought and luckily more and more data is coming out regarding this type of pediatric inflammatory response post COVID. Our family thanks you all for the support and well wishes. We are reading them all.
02.01.2022 Hilarious read... To all those "Southerners" thinking of moving to Queensland ... read carefully. And for those of us that live here..... have a bloody gre...at laugh !!! You may know that lots and lots of Victorians move to Queensland every year. This is an extract of the diary of one such adventurous soul! August 31st Just got transferred with work into our new home in Brisbane!! Now this is a city that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days And warm balmy evenings. What a place! I watched the sunset from a deck chair on the veranda. It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here. September 13th: Really heating up. Got to 35 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshiper. September 30th: Had the backyard landscaped with tropical plants today. Lots of Palms and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing lawn for me.Another scorcher today, but I love it here. October 10th The temperature hasn't been below 30 all week. How do people get Used to this kind of heat? At least today it's kind of windy though, but getting used to the heat and humidity is taking longer that I expected. October 15th: Fell asleep by the pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body. Missed 3 days of work. What a daft thing to do. I learnt my lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this. October 20th: I didn't see Kitty our cat, sneaking into the car before I left this morning. By the time I got to the hot car at lunchtime, Kitty had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank out $3,000 Worth of leather upholstery. I told the kids that she ran away. The car now smells like Wiskettes and cat shit. I learnt my lesson though. No more pets in this heat. October 25th: The wind gives me the shits. It feels like a giant bloody blow dryer!! And it's as hot as hell. The air conditioner is on the blink and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive over and tell me he needed to order parts. October 30th: Been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now. Bloody $450,000 house and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here? November 4th: It's 35 degrees. Finally got the ol' air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 25, but this bloody humidity makes the house feel like it's about 30. Stupid repairman. I hate this bloody place. November 8th: If another smartarse says, "Hot enough for you today?" I'm going to throttle him. Bloody heat. By the time I get to work the car's radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!! November 9th : Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and sat on the black leather seats in the ol' car. I thought my arse was on fire. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs. Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried arse, and baked cat. November 10th: The weather report might as well be a bloody recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do anything for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this damn place? Water rationing will be next, so my $2,000 worth of palms will dry up and blow into the bloody pool. Even the palms can't live in this heat. November 14th: Welcome to HELL!!! Temperature got to 38 today. Now the air conditioner in my car has gone. The repairman came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the $2,500 house payment to bail my arse out of jail for assaulting the repairman. Bloody Brisbane. What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here? December 1st: WHAT????? This is the first day of summer???? You are @#?*@! kidding!
02.01.2022 This is amazing. In sign language, this deaf man's cat communicates with him.
