25.01.2022 It all begins when young Lucy sees an ad, Unicorn for sale, 25 cents. She sends the money (what a bargain) only to receive what looks, smells and behaves like a goat! He is not what she expected, but he turns out to be what she needed after all! A lovely and funny story about unexpected friendships and how love grows

25.01.2022 Thanks for the tutorial @7daysofplay FLUFFY SLIME RECIPE // This is how we make fluffy slime! - WHAT YOU’LL NEED... 1/2 Cup White Glue 3 Cups Shaving Cream 1/2 tsp Baking Soda 1-2 Tbsp Saline Solution (must contain boric acid) Liquid Watercolor (you can also use food coloring) - HOW TO (1) Mix white glue, shaving cream, and baking soda in a bowl; (2) Add saline solution and the mixture will start to form into slime. (3) Coat hands with saline solution and knead the slime until it binds together and is no longer sticky, but still stretchy. (4) To add a pop of color, drop in liquid watercolor a little at a time until slime has reached desired vibrancy! - Tips and Tricks: - Is you slime still too sticky? Just add and mix in more saline solution! - Use gloves to prevent hands from liquid watercolor stains. However, if your hands do get stained, just wash you hands with baking soda and it should do the trick! - Did slime get on clothes, fabric, or hair? White vinegar to the rescue! Just soak affected area in water and vinegar, scrub, and the slime should dissolve easily! - Store in plastic container with lid and keep in mind that puffy slime will lose its puff, but can still be played with if stored correctly! - Adult supervision required. Never consume slime, or put slime in mouth. Always wash hands and surfaces after playing with slime. - #slime #scienceforkids #sensoryplay #preschoolactivities #sciencefun #kidsactivities #playideas #messyplay #activitiesforkids #sensoryplayideas #activitiesforkids #sensoryplay #handsonplay #sensorylearning #messyplay #sensorytable #sensoryplayideas #sensorybin #diymom #playmatters #playlearngrow #playfullearning #makelearningfun #simpleplay #playideas #playbasedlearning #kidsatplay #handsonlearning #invitationtoplay #creativelyplaying See more

25.01.2022 Thanks for sharing this @theexpertally It drives me crazy when communication is used as an equivalent to spoken language. It is not. If you cannot produce spoken language, there are many other ways to communicate. .... Speech production does not equal intelligence. People who cannot speak can have highly sophisticated minds that they can express through other means. People can express complex thoughts, communicate their needs and wishes, make jokes, share information and do everything that can be done with language by using other means. . We need to be careful when we use the concept of communication to distinguish it from the ability to produce spoken language. If we only listen to those who speak, we miss out on a lot of great and important communication. When we think about communication broadly, it is easier to have inclusion and acceptance. . . . . . #autism #AutismAcceptance #Aspie #AspieLife #AspiesOfInstagram #autistic #AutismLife #RedInstead #AutisticAndProud #AutismSpectrum #Aspergers #AspergerSyndrome #AutismSpectrumDisorder #Stim #Stimming #ABA #StimToys #ProudToBeAutistic #IAmAutistic #BCBA #AutismAwareness #AutisticWomen #Autismfamily #AutismParent #AutismWarrior #AutismWorld #SLPeeps See more

12.01.2022 Love some good time on the trampoline! Thanks for sharing @aussieautismfamily Jacob spending a good amount of his day jumping on his trampoline. When we bought it, we didn’t know just how great it would be for his sensory and emotional needs. ... With each up and down jump, the body receives proprioceptive input and vestibular motion feedback. In simpler terms it helps a child to be more aware of their bodies situation and the bodies response to movement. After a good jump on the trampoline Jacob is more calm and most importantly he is happier. What does your child need to thrive?

12.01.2022 @autie_teen Don’t use autistics as your inspiration p**n I’m not a hero for just living my life and don’t treat us as if we are terminally ill and desperately need a cure. 11.01.2022 Raw and honest words by @jordan_d_bates Whatever your journey with your child, stay connected and reach out for support when you need it. Macallan is 22 months old, he is silly, affectionate, adorable, smart and he is also autistic. We received his diagnosis one week ago, and while it wasn’t a surprise it is still something I had to process. Since late August, when I started to think he may have ASD, my anxiety and depression have gotten WAY worse. I started having pa...nic attacks everyday. I was triggered by Macallan’s stimming and any paperwork/phone call/anything to do with his autism. Combine that with being pregnant and I am just a bundle of fun! So many parents of autistic kids talk about the grieving process you go through when receiving this information. I definitely went through denial, anger, guilt, depression but now I thinkI’m on the upswing of things. Motherhood has rocked me. I knew it would be hard but I didn’t expect it to be THIS hard. Getting severe preeclampsia, having Macallan 7 weeks early, NICU stay, having him get RSV and almost dying, now an autism diagnosis. While it’s been hard, I can’t help but compare what we’ve gone through to others and downplay our struggles and my feelings. At least we have insurance, at least we have money to cover bills, at least he doesn’t have medical issues, at least we don’t have it as bad as others. But comparing isn’t helpful, it doesn’t ease my sadness or make me feel better about the challenging road he has ahead of him. The more I learn the more hopeful I feel that early intervention and therapies will help Macallan. We have a rough plan of what the next few months will entail, more evaluations, speech, occupational and ABA therapies, and introducing a new baby brother into the mix. It’s nothing we can’t handle, our friends and family have been so supportive and encouraging. I’m rambling. There is no easy way to explain how I’m feeling, no cute or inspiring saying to put on my letter board. No perfect picture to share. Just raw emotion, a mess of a mom, a super cute toddler and us continuing to share our honest journey through motherhood.

06.01.2022 Great tips for parents to support early language development from @speechbylily

01.01.2022 Great post from @theexpertally ____________________________________________ These come from my practice. Finding out about your autism and learning about your differences is not usually a smooth path. .... None of us choose who we are. Each one of us has to learn to accept and value who we are. It is a task we all face in life. For someone with neurodevelopmental differences, this task might be much more complicated. . As you are talking to your child about their autism, these are some of the messages that might be helpful. They do not work miracles. You might have many, many conversations to help your child integrate all the pieces of themselves and develop a positive view of themselves. . Autism and low self-esteem often go hand in hand, but low self-esteem is not an autistic trait. It is often a result of the person's difficult experiences with others in their community. We can help by giving our children these messages and seeking out opportunities for our children to receive these messages from others. . And if you are an autistic person, I hope that these messages can be a part of your positive self-talk. Feeling positive and optimistic is important for success. The challenges are real, but your strengths and your value are real as well. . 01.01.2022 Ah yes, the humble spoon! A great reminder that the simplest objects can become the most versatile and creative toys. Round up below of just a few ways to play with plastic spoons by @theworldisyourtoystore ... After using spoons to play on the beach while camping, we were inspired to do a spoon round up! 1. Spoon Rescue: Use packing tape (sticky side out) and painters tape to hang spoons from a height your babe can reach. Max is all about pulling to stand- so we put them at his standing height to get him some practice! 2. Spoon Catapult: we used popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and spoons to create catapult! Ellie loved this activity. For an extension activity you could even use a target. 3. Sensory spoons: add plastic spoons to any of your sensory bins!! Scooping and pouring is great for fine motor practice as well as developing practical life skills! 4. Sensory board: this activity was inspired by Max’s love for sensory books! Just hot glue different parts of the spoon behind shape cut-outs on cardboard, then tape another piece of cardboard on the back to avoid any sharp parts. Finally, tape around the edge so the pieces of cardboard can’t come apart. 5. Spoon track: Hot glue spoons onto a cardboard box to create a track or maze! We had to problem solve the best angle to put our our track on so that the ball would follow the track. We are also going to use this as a road for our cars! 6. Bug Spoons: use sharpies to decorate spoons like bugs. Ellie supervised and told me what she wanted her bugs to look like, then after they dried we did a lot of pretend play! The bugs played hide-and-seek all morning 7. Spoon Shakers: tape a plastic egg shaker between two spoons- so easy and adds to the fun! 8. Spoon sort: sorting spoons and forks is such an easy and practical way to target cognitive development! I had to support Blair through this activity by providing her verbal and visual cues! See stories for how I did this! These spoons were our hardest round-up yet! We just couldn’t get inspired . Comment below with any additional ideas that we can try next time!
