25.01.2022 12 people undergo diabetes-related amputations in Australia every single day. At least four out of five of these can be prevented. If you have diabetes - it is recommended that you see a podiatrist every year for a diabetic foot health check.... We get it - hearing these recommendations can be daunting. Especially if you've never seen a podiatrist before, feel like you're 'behind', or have no idea about where to start when it comes to looking your feet. That's absolutely a-okay with us - and we'd love to fill you in from the ground-up, and help care for your feet.

25.01.2022 Your kind feedback means so much to us - and we definitely take it on board! Kindness, friendliness, knowledge and excellent service are all non-compromisable for us - and were so glad it shows! Thank you Barbara - and wishing you all a great day!

24.01.2022 Weve been seeing a LOT of runners in our clinic in the last few weeks! And we dont blame you - with many of our restrictions having passed, its nice to see so many patients have taken to the outdoors to help stay fit and active! Did you know that when you run, you can put forces of up to THREE times your body weight through your feet? Yep! Which may help explain why up to 70% of recreational runners can sustain a running-related injury every year.... If youve recently started running or jogging - or are planning to - and you start feeling a niggle, ache or pain in your feet or legs, our best advice is to have it checked. When damaged tissues, joints or muscles are put under MORE strain instead of being helped to recover, your pain can quickly progress and worsen. A strain in a tissue can become a tear. Overloading a bone can turn into a stress fracture. If youre getting pain while running, we can help you treat the problem - and help prevent it from coming back in the future. We love helping our patients stay active, out of pain, and doing the things they love! #sunshinecoast #thesunshinecoast #birtinya #queenslandbusiness #sunshinecoastbusiness #sunshinecoastliving #sunshinecoastfitness #sunshinecoastwellness #sunshinecoasthealthandfitness #sunshinecoastmums #footpain #heelpain #legpain #toepain #ingrowntoenails #kneepain #orthotics #runningorthotics #plantarfasciitis

24.01.2022 Orthotics have come a VERY long way in the last two decades - making the process of capturing the intricate features of your feet and legs a much more pleasant and simple experience! Back in the day, we used to use plaster casting to wrap around your feet and take an impression. Yep - it was wet, messy and very time-consuming for you waiting for the plaster to dry! Now, were stoked to use 3D-scanning to achieve the same function and capture the perfect impression of your fee...t that is used as the base for your custom orthotics. Not confident if a 3D scan is up to the job of capturing your foot accurately? This has been examined in MANY studies, and has been commended for its "relatively higher precision, accuracy and robustness" in a 2014 study. Heres what the 3D casting process looks like!

23.01.2022 Pain around your ankle can be deceiving Based on its location, it SHOULD be coming from or related to your ankle joint... right? Nope! Not at all. Ahh yes, that's why we have to study for four years to become podiatrists ... You see, you have muscles and tendons that run cross the ankle at every corner. At the front of the ankle, on either side of the ankle - and of course the Achilles tendon at the back there. If you haven't had an obvious injury or sprain at your ankle, that ache at your ankle is more likely to be associated with damage to one of those muscles, tendons - or even one of the supporting ligaments or tissues - than the actual ankle joint itself. We are able to isolate exactly which structure is causing your symptoms - and if we need to, we can confirm this via ultrasound. It's ONLY when you have the right diagnosis that you can have the best and most efficient treatment and care.

22.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago we had to shut up shop for a morning while our front desk was being "Renovated". Instead of taking our time coming into work for the day we decided to book a cooking class with Tomo from Japanese Cuisine Classes. We had so much fun making Gyoza and our favourite Okonomiyaki, but realised afterwards we probably should have made it an afternoon class so we could sleep afterwards. Looking forward to our next masterclass Tomo!!

19.01.2022 This week the girls received a very exciting upgrade of the front desk. So dont be surprised if you see both Taya & Melissa on your visit to the clinic from now on :) Yay for a colour change and more space!

17.01.2022 Do you have orthotics but are starting to feel less comfortable on your feet - or maybe your pain has come back? Theres a very good reason that we get you in for an orthotic check every 12 months! You see, over time, certain materials in your orthotics will start to compress and wear down. This is natural and what we expect - we select the best materials to help you maximise your comfort, recover from injury and help keep your feet in an optimal alignment. The materials th...at do the best job of this are also ones that do compress after continued use - anywhere from 12 months to 2 years. Often, the wearing down of your orthotics will have a lot to do with your level of activity, weight, foot type and many other factors. Once orthotics wear down, they can no longer do their job of supporting your feet and legs as well - leaving you vulnerable to the return of your previous symptoms. So whens the last time you had your orthotics checked?? If youre unsure what orthotics are or if theyre right for you - follow the link in the comments below!

16.01.2022 Is it time for a new or second pair orthotics so you can stop moving yours from shoe to shoe? Many of our patients are eligible for a rebate on a new pair EVERY year - depending on your level of cover with your health fund of course. This could give you the freedom of having a pair for a specific pair of shoes - whether thats your work shoes, soccer boots, dress shoes, boots or something else!... We can make your next pair identical to your first, or they can have differences that can help you get the best fit and comfort Book your appointment with us for your orthotics by calling us on 07 5437 8805. #sunshinecoast #thesunshinecoast #birtinya #queenslandbusiness #sunshinecoastbusiness #sunshinecoastliving #sunshinecoastfitness #sunshinecoastwellness #sunshinecoasthealthandfitness #sunshinecoastmums #footpain #heelpain #legpain #toepain #ingrowntoenails #kneepain #runningtips #runner #running #bunion

15.01.2022 Pain is it ever normal? Simply put? Absolutely not. While many of us can get used to the constant or sporadic presence of pain when we walk and move, that does NOT mean that its normal or should be treated way. Physiologically, pain is our bodys way of letting us know that something is wrong, and we need to take care.... When we ignore pain or get used to it, thats when it can continue and even worsen. Do you have foot, leg or knee pain that youve gotten used to? It doesnt have to be all day - it could just be during certain sports. If you do, our experienced podiatry team would love to help.

15.01.2022 That painful knot in your calf - what effect could it really be having on your body? These trigger points can produce both local pain, as well as referred pain to other parts of your feet or legs. They can also restrict your movement, and are considered a major source of pain in approximately 30% of people with a musculoskeletal problem. Dry needling has been compared to manual therapies like massage to show that they both produced improvement in disability, pain and range ...of motion - which is why we consider it a great (and faster) alternative, or complement, to massage for many people. Our team are qualified and experienced in dry needling, and use it to help with problems like: Heel pain Plantar fasciitis Chronic muscle strain Peripheral neuropathy Sports injuries Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis pain Want to know if dry needling can help with your foot or leg problem? Give us a call and well be happy to answer any questions!

15.01.2022 Exciting new things are happening in the clinic over the next month! Watch this space.....

15.01.2022 Think that your feet going up a size during pregnancy is a myth? Its not! When youre pregnant, a hormone called relaxin circulates through your system and helps to soften our ligaments. This is crucial for helping the body grow, expand and accommodate the growing baby and prepare for birth. As a by-product, the ligaments in our feet also relax - and so our feet may become wider, flatter, and less supported through the arch.... This means that you may go up either half or a whole shoe size! As well as get wider. Unfortunately, the decreased support through the arch can cause foot pain and even plantar fasciitis - so be careful and keep your feet supported! And if pain develops - let us know https://www.womenshealthweek.com.au/news/its-your-week

14.01.2022 We would like to introduce and welcome James to our awesome Innovation Podiatry Family! James has lived in Australia since 2012. He completed a diploma of hospitality and commercial cookery in 2014, working as a qualified chef in various hotels and restaurants throughout Australia. You can take it from me... his cooking is AMAZING!! James has been involved with volunteer work in third world countries since he was a young lad which grew his passion to be a health profession...al so he could help those in need. He completed a Bachelor of Podiatry at Newcastle University while continuing his volunteer work. He enjoys all aspects of podiatric care including diabetic and biomechanical assessments, wound care and orthotic intervention. James has a great sense of humour and we love having him as part of our team. We are 100% you will enjoy having him treat your feet too

14.01.2022 If you have diabetes, you should be having a diabetic foot health check *every* year. Why? Diabetes impairs both your circulation and sensation. BUT. The effects worsen gradually, over time. This means that over the years, your ability to feel, and the circulation to your feet, will worsen. As it does, you become more susceptible to sustaining a wound - and not being able to feel it. If that happens, your ability to heal the wound worsens, meaning it takes longer to heal, AND... your ability to fight any infections that develop worsen, too. Having an annual diabetic foot health check means you know exactly whats happening with your feet every year. If you know the status of your foot health, you know the right precautions to take to manage your risks. If you have diabetes and havent had your foot health check yet this year - wed love to help!

12.01.2022 Ever heard of Prolotherapy? Prolotherapy is an injection that helps with ligament reconstruction for chronic pain management - WITHOUT surgery The treatments that we carefully select to offer at our clinic and extensively researched - and are evidence-based, just like prolotherapy which, when reviewed in 15 studies, found to be supported for use in tendinopathies, knee osteoarthritis and ligament dysfunction, successfully treating musculoskeletal stiffness and pain (>95%...) So how does it work? Prolotherapy uses a dextrose solution mixed with normal saline and local anaesthetic, and is injected into the ligament or tendon where it attaches to the bone. This causes a localised inflammation in these weak areas which then increases the blood supply and flow of nutrients, and stimulates the tissue to repair itself. Wondering if prolotherapy is right for you? Get in touch! Wed love to help you relieve your pain so you can finally feel better! https://innovationpodiatry.com.au/prolotherapy/

11.01.2022 Does the weight of your running shoes matter? Interestingly, a study published earlier this year in the Journal of Foot & Ankle Research showed that wearing lighter shoes meant that your gastrocs (the muscles at the back of your calves) worked harder to slow you down! Which may promote fatigue when braking during running. What does that mean? Well, if youre a runner and if youve been running in the same shoes (with the same weight) for years - and you suddenly switch to s...hoes that are lighter or heavier, there may be a noticeable difference in how you feel after you run! This is just one of the many reasons why we LOVE podiatry - all the new things we learn every week - and what we can use to help improve your care, running performance, and much more! https://jfootankleres.biomedcentral.com//s13047-020-00415-x

07.01.2022 Its NATIONAL DIABETES WEEK So... what do your feet and legs have to do with diabetes? Diabetes affects the sensation (feeling) and the circulation (blood flow) in the feet.... When our ability to feel is affected, we can no longer detect small cuts or wounds that wed usually disinfect and cover up. This leaves them vulnerable to infection and continued irritation, so they take longer to heal. When our blood flow is affected, our ability to heal any wounds slows. Our ability to fight infections also worsens. This makes us more vulnerable to serious complications. When the factors above are combined, it explains why diabetes is the leading cause of lower limb amputation in Australia, aside from traumatic accidents, according to Diabetes Australia. If you have diabetes, it is recommended that you come in for a diabetic foot health check every year - so if this is you, wed love to see you, assess your risks, and show you how you can best protect yourself. In between the homeschooling and keeping the kids occupied at home, its so easy to forget that theyre still growing as quickly as ever! This is why we recommend having their feet and legs checked by our experienced podiatry team, to make sure that everything is growing well, fitting well, and that any niggles or pains arent anything more serious.... School holidays are the PERFECT time for this - so get in quick before the holidays are over! #sunshinecoast #thesunshinecoast #birtinya #queenslandbusiness #sunshinecoastbusiness #sunshinecoastliving #sunshinecoastfitness #sunshinecoastwellness #sunshinecoasthealthandfitness #sunshinecoastmums #footpain #heelpain #legpain #toepain #ingrowntoenails #kneepain #runningtips #runner #running #bunion

06.01.2022 Its Daffodil Day! While we usually love pinning those bright Daffodils to our shirts, this year is a little bit different in Australia, with donations being encouraged to be made online to help support the research currently being conducted into cancer here in Australia. Have you got your virtual daffodil? Grab it here: https://www.daffodilday.com.au/donate

03.01.2022 We are still open! And can help with Nail & Callus Care... Dry Heels Ingrown toenails Painful warts and corns Heel & foot pain Leg & knee pain (strapping, managing injuries & more) Visit our website for more information or call us on 54378805.

03.01.2022 Have a bunion? - heres a quick test for you! While resting your foot, hold onto your big toe with your one hand and gently move the toe outwards to straighten it. Does it straighten or is it rigid and unmovable? If your answer is flexible then we have good news - your bunion is MUCH easier to work with to help correct its position. This is because you likely dont have many permanent changes in the shape of the joint. If this is you, this is the PERFECT time to ...start treatment - before it becomes rigid and difficult to move. If your answer is rigid then it is likely that youve had your bunion for quiteeeeee a few years - and its also likely that your bunion is causing you much grief - making it difficult for you to fit shoes comfortably, rubbing against them instead. The good news is that there are still solutions we can try for you that do NOT require surgery - we just need to assess your bunion first as individual characteristics can make a world of difference. Bunions DO continue to get worse over time, so one of the things we will always do is look at what has been causing your bunion to worsen, and what we can do to fix this. One thing we can say for certain is the best time to start treatment is now - as early as possible! Give our team of experienced podiatrists a call - wed love to help https://innovationpodiatry.com.au/conditions/fore-foot-pain/

03.01.2022 Is the winter leaving you with dry, cracked heels? We recommend trying Restorate heel + foot balm. Its designed by podiatrists for people that want to bring moisture back into their dry, tough feet, help get their cracked heels under control, and get rid of that roughness. We love that its NOT at all greasy while being so moisturising. You just massage it into your feet once a day - BUT if you cant reach your feet, thats totally fine - it comes in a spray bottle too... You can check it out (as well as its benefits) by clicking the weblink below! https://restoratecream.myshopify.com/collections/all

02.01.2022 It’s starting to get HOT!! And What better way to cool down in the pool on a hot day especially when you have the cutest floatie EVER!!

02.01.2022 Diabetes foot checks Earlier this week we shared how diabetes affects your feet (scroll up if you havent read it - its a goodie!!). Today, were sharing what happens at a diabetic foot check - and why you should get one ASAP if you havent already (though dont take our word for it - its recommended by Diabetes Australia to have your feet checked every year!)... Firstly, its a very RELAXED appointment. Its an open space for you to answer any and every question without concern and fear. Well use tools to perform simple yet effective tests to gauge your ability to detect feeling around your feet and toes, as well as your blood flow. Well look at the condition of the skin around your feet and evaluate what this may mean for your foot health. Well ask you plenty of questions! And explain why each of these elements is important. Well discuss your results, what they mean, and what your risks are. As the effects of diabetes on your feet progressively worsen, your results this year may be VERY different from last year. Next, well teach you how to best protect your feet - when youre at home and out. It is these simple habits that well teach you that can make a big difference to your foot health. It may be as simple as switching to wearing protective slippers inside the home, not applying direct heat or ice to your skin (because you cant detect when its too much and will damage the skin), or holding your feet up to a mirror every day so you can check that theres nothing sinister on the bottoms of your feet that you havent felt. Book a check for yourself or your loved ones by calling us on 07 5437 8805

02.01.2022 Its Tradies Health Month! But why do we have an entire month dedicated to the health of our tradies here in Australia? Its simple - many tradies spend a tremendous amount of time on their feet - wearing heavy steel capped boots and often going non-stop on hard surfaces for long shifts. Their professions can make them much more vulnerable to feet and leg injuries - and its important to get the word out that if youre a tradie (or have similar work conditions!) then certa...in problems can and do happen, often. We also want to raise the awareness that if you do start experiencing: Foot, leg or knee pain Tired, achy legs at the end of the day Feeling uncomfortable, unstable or unbalanced on your feet ... then we can help! As podiatrists, keeping you comfortable and out of pain is our priority.

01.01.2022 Currently looking down at your yellow/white discoloured toenails and wondering if theyll ever go back to normal? Unfortunately, the chance of a fungal nail infection resolving on its own is slim - especially in the winter where we keep our toes trapped in warm, enclosed socks and shoes. Did we mention that fungus thrives in warm, moist and dark environments? And loves the keratin from which your nails are made of? Yep - winter is a fungus favourite time for a reason! So wh...ats our recommendation? This Nail revive is a once-a-day (not 5-times a day - yay!) formula that is clinically proven to improve the appearance of fungal or discoloured nails (including those affected by psoriasis). Its a podiatrist-approved formula and its one of the best topical solutions weve seen. You can pick it up in the clinic . Call 54378805 and we will put one aside for you :)
