25.01.2022 Can you believe that National Child Protection Week is in its 30th year?! How many years have you been involved? Do some of these old posters look familiar?

25.01.2022 As we continue on this COVID-19 journey, many stories are emerging about the increased rates, and changing face, of family violence. We are also hearing many stories about the creative and innovative ways people are finding to connect with adult survivors and their families. (Read more in our Blog: https://innovativeresources.org/family-violence-during-cov/) Image from 'No Room For Family Violence' https://innovativeresources.org//no-room-for-family-viole/

25.01.2022 For many of us at the moment, work and home have merged. What strategies are you using to separate the two? What are the perks of working from home? Image from Self-Care - For Home and Work

24.01.2022 Today is International Day of Friendship, which makes it a great time to let our friends know how much we appreciate them. It is also a great time to think about friendship qualities. What do you value about your friends? What qualities do you bring to your friendships? Image from 'Mates Traits' https://innovativeresources.org/res/card-sets/mates-traits/

24.01.2022 The theme of NAIDOC Week 2020 is Always Was, Always Will Be, which recognises that First Nations people have been custodians of this country for over 65,000 years. As author and editor of First Knowledges: The Power and Promise (written with Lynne Kelly) Margo Neale says, Country holds information, innovations, stories and secretsfrom medicine, engineering, ecology and astronomy to social mores on how to live, and social organisation, including moiety division and kinships ...systems. It is the wellspring from which all knowledge originates and gives rise to the expression ‘Our history is written in the land’. By ‘history’ we mean all knowledge: sciences, humanities and ancestral knowledge, not only what is compartmentalised by Western history. If Country holds all knowledge, then Country is clever. We at Innovative Resources feel privileged to share this incredibly diverse and clever country with people from the longest living continuous cultures in the world. We also recognise that sovereignty was never ceded and acknowledge that the real history of this country goes back thousands of generations. Let’s celebrate this unique history by being open to learning more, challenging our preconceived understandings, acknowledging injustices and embracing different ways of knowing. 24.01.2022 We all feel alone sometimes. Ironically, it is one of the few things that unites us. One of the antidotes to loneliness is reaching out to others. Who would you like to connect with? Image from 'POSTcards from me to you' https://innovativeresources.org//card-sets/postcards-from/

23.01.2022 When life gets turned on its head, as it has during the last few months, it sometimes reminds us about what is important. Spending more time with family has reminded me how much I enjoy simple pleasures, like playing board games, going for bike rides and cooking with my kids. What have you learned during the lockdown about what is important? What would you like to continue doing more of once the pandemic has passed? 23.01.2022 Here is a link to podcast from The Butterfly Foundation: 'Gender, sexuality and eating disorders' https://player.whooshkaa.com/episode?id=710564

22.01.2022 From Danni McDougall, author of the Eating Disorders cards: Yesterday was the first day of mask wearing in Melbourne and it got me thinking about how making masks mandatory was also a way of making COVID-19 kinda visible. From there I was thinking about other invisible illnesses and wondering what it would be like if they were made more visible in society. I think for some illnesses/people there might be compassion but sadly for others there would be more stigma, or maybe a combination of both. Wouldn't it be amazing to live in a society where compassion was the only thing that came about from visibility?

22.01.2022 Stories about our strengths give us a sense of how things might be and ideas about how to bring about the changes we want. - Wayne McCashen. 15.01.2022 Trans Awareness Week is a chance to celebrate the wonderful trans and gender diverse community. And it's also the perfect, ideal time to educate ourselves and t...hose around us about gender diversity, and the importance of being a trans ally. AV's PRIDE Committee put together some ways to be a trans ally: Be patient with those questioning their gender identity. Respect pronouns. Don’t tolerate disrespect. Don’t worry about what bathrooms people use. Listen to trans and gender diverse voices - the documentary Disclosure on Netflix is a good place to start! Don’t assume you can tell if someone is transgender. Be careful about confidentiality, disclosure and outing somebody. Use gender-neutral language. Check out Minus18 for a trans ally toolkit and ideas for how to get involved this #TransAwarenessWeek #Translivesmatter #transawareness #genderdiverse #everyoneiswelcome #anglicarevic #pride
