21.01.2022 In January, my daughter and I headed to Cambodia to do some teacher training. We had the privilege of working with amazing teachers, who were some of the most enthusiastic Ive ever come across. On our first day of training, teachers from three schools attended. It was a real experience for me because I felt to go in with lots of ideas but no specific plan (which is really not my style). I taught lots of games and hands on activities. The teachers were great and I must say t...hat we saw such enthusiasm and a really competitive side come out in some of the teachers when they had a go at the games and competitions for themselves. We went in to one of the three schools the week after our first visit and I was so excited because one of the teachers told me that she had been using LOTS of the games in class already! On our second day of training, I had a principal drive for hours to pick us up to take us to her school for training. She then minded the students from the whole school (100s of them) for the day while all of her teachers participated in Professional Learning and then she drove for hours to take us back to Phnom Penh. Theres commitment!! In this school we had the opportunity of watching the teachers teach their students some of the games after we taught them. I have honestly not seen such love for students before. It was awesome to see the care that the teachers had for their students and the excitement they had in explaining new things to them! On our last day of training, teachers from two schools came to our accommodation for their PL. Again, so much enthusiasm! They had their pens and paper ready at all times and were always busy writing instructions for things so they wouldnt forget them. We spent lots of time in this day on Friends of Ten, Hundreds Chart and associated games and activities. I loved that at the end of the day the teachers pumped me for the English words for a whole range of different shapes and then when it was all over, they learnt the expression "Time flies when youre having fun!" What I found the most impacting about our trip was seeing the poverty in the country and that education is truly such a key to improving peoples lives, but that it is so hard to access for so many. I saw such a need for Professional Learning for teachers too. Many have not received formal training, or have had training in another field. They are working in education without the background training because they see the need and know that they can do something really special there. I would love to be able to spend more time building their knowledge so that they can train the upcoming generation in an even bigger way than they already are! I think its safe to say, Cambodia, we will be back xx See more

15.01.2022 In the last few weeks, teachers (like many many others) have been asked to completely change their approach to their job. So many new skills have been acquired and so many innovative approaches have been put into play. Thank you! With this post, I want to open up a place for teachers to share what theyve tried. What works. What doesnt. And with this post, I also want to make a place for parents to share stories of ways their kids have been impacted in a positive way by their teachers in this time. (No negative comments please.) So, if youre a teacher, or if youre a parent, and you would like to share, please add your comment below.
15.01.2022 On Tuesday, Year 8 students were involved in a STEM Day where they engaged in a range of different problem solving activities and competitions (including chocol...ate challenges). Tasks offered catered for a range of mathematical interests and abilities resulting in a stimulating and very fulfilling day for all students. The engagement and energy in the room indicated a commitment from all students and I am sure they will have gone home yesterday physically and mentally exhausted. See more

14.01.2022 As you would imagine, due to COVID-19 our hands-on workshops in schools arent keeping us very busy at the moment, so weve decided to use our down time to do something weve been wanting to do for a long time - make resources for Primary Schools. The contents of our first 100 Inquisitive Minds - Problem Solvers Toolkits have arrived today and the packs should be assembled and ready for their official release in a few days. Im also in the process of making activities wh...ich can be used alongside the toolkits. These activities will include videos, slideshows, hands-on activities, open ended tasks, deep thinking questions and games. All activities will be available digitally to make them easily accessible for students working remotely. The first sets of activities are nearly ready for release and more will be made available over the next months. Keep posted for more details. See more

10.01.2022 INQUISITIVE MINDS - BY ANICA ALEKSIC 8J Yesterday ESHS was lucky enough to have the Inquisitive Minds team conduct an incursion for students in 7J, 7K and 8J. T...he incursion was aimed at mathematics and problem solving skills. The day started with a series of puzzles and problems that we had to solve in pairs to gain points. The teams with the most points won chocolates. Our day also consisted of a longest bridge and tallest tower building competition, rope tricks. The day ended with an hour of mind boggling games that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. We would like to thank the Inquisitive Minds team for a day full for a day of problem solving and puzzles that everyone loved.

09.01.2022 In January, my daughter and I headed to Cambodia to do some teacher training. A big shout to MTA, who donated a large box of goodies, Teachers First Choice, who gave us a discount on Swipe, Write Wipe boards and also to lots of my friends who donated money to take with us, some of which was used for equipment to leave with the teachers. Here are some pics of the buying (in the Russian markets in Phnom Penh), the sorting process (in our accommodation) and the pile of goodies for one of the schools, (ready for me to glance at and decide what Id be teaching next).

08.01.2022 Last week we finished our first full week in one school. We catered for all of Year 7 to 10, running sessions for lower, middle and higher ability groups. At one stage Derek told a reluctant student that he would like it if he gave it a go. He even said hed give him our car if he didnt! Happy to say we still have a car and that we are already booked in for another whole week next year!
