25.01.2022 When Bonnie Sturrock wore her first surgical mask a few months ago, she decided she could design a much better one for herself and other Melburnians. "I've made more than 200 masks now and I hang them off my front garden fence. I just want our community to feel some sense of safety in this time." Sanjeev Singh Housebound - A Portrait Project in Isolation

24.01.2022 An unexpectedly quiet work schedule wasn't going to stop photographer Sanjeev Singh from his creative pursuits. Within a couple of weeks, he had launched Housebound - A Portrait Project in Isolation and was documenting the lives of Melburnians in self-isolation. (Sanjeev is on the hunt for more beautiful stories to tell so give him a shout if you'd like to be featured in this series.)

24.01.2022 Nornie Bero wanted her community to stay home but to also keep gathering over her food. Her new Mabu Mabu online Village Store is helping them do that. "I wanted to make my own products and bring out my culture by putting native ingredients into a format that everyone can afford to use in their everyday cooking."

22.01.2022 People believe that if you’re disabled, you’ll have to give up dancing. That’s not true. - Trevor Dunn, co-founder of Weave Movement Theatre New story on the blog :) Weave Movement Theatre

20.01.2022 Psychologist, Bonnie Sturrock, didn't like the way surgical masks felt so she decided to sew her own cloth ones. Then she decided to hang a few pieces on her fence for her local community. 19.01.2022 Kate_florence_art working on one of her charming doodles at The Other Art Fair Melbourne. She says, It was my first ever art fair, a huge learning curve for me. I learnt so many things, but above all it re-confirmed that art has such a huge place in this world. Art is not just about what you hang on your walls. It has the power to describe things that cannot be said with words; art can heal you, empower you and open a window into seeing how other people see the world.

19.01.2022 Now, more than ever, we need the power of stories to bring us together. So we’ve asked the Melburnians featured on this blog to share their stories of optimism, kindness and connection during this time. This is Greg Church of Calm in the City who leads wonderful guided meditation sessions in Fed Square every Thursday morning. Since the gathering restrictions, Calm in the City has introduced Calm Inspirations - a daily series of 5 minute reflections, meditations and inspirati...ons that are sent out via Whatsapp. "We hope that, even though we may not be able to connect physically, these 'real time' meditations and reflections connect us all 'subtly', bringing us closer in feelings of calm, kindness and courage, as we hold the space for ourselves and others together." To receive these inspirations: 1. Text Calm in the City at +61 406 371 894 with the message 'Calm Inspirations' 2. Add this number to your contacts Photos by Jeevs

14.01.2022 "I see similarities between running a marathon and going through this uncertain times. Both involve believing that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel." Zac Newman - athlete, coach and co-founder of Run2PB

14.01.2022 Catherine Blackford wanted to do more to help Australia's healthcare workers than just staying home. So she launched Nurture 4 Nurses, a crowdfunding campaign that sends gratitude Bindle boxes to nominated nurses. This campaign is a win-win. We get to show our gratitude to those on the frontline while helping local businesses stay afloat. 12.01.2022 Leaving artists in isolation with a calendar of cancelled gigs was unthinkable so Multicultural Arts Victoria created a place for them in home workspaces. Arik Blum, MAV's Project Officer of Artists Services, says, "The more both the audience and the artist can establish their points of commonality, the stronger bonds we can create within the community. Damian W Vincenzi

11.01.2022 When the movement restrictions put a halt to the meditation sessions at A - Space, its co-founder Manoj Dias held his community together and gathered them in a new online space - The School of Deep Feelings. At a time when we are facing all of our humanness we couldn’t ask for wisdom from better humans.

11.01.2022 It took years before Sunanda Sachatrakul realised she was gay. But once she did, it liberated her to become whoever she wanted to be. So she became a comedian. "I always loved comedy but I didn't think anyone would want to hear from me because I never saw anyone like me doing stand-up. When you don't see yourself represented, you think you don't deserve representation."

01.01.2022 Our super talented and lionhearted photographer, Sanjeev Singh Photos by Jeevs, has embarked on a personal and emotive project called Outings. He’s travelling around Victoria collecting the coming out stories of LGBTIQ+ individuals. Why?
