25.01.2022 We are not our trauma. We are not our brain chemistry. That’s part of who we are, but we’re so much more than that. Sam J. Miller

22.01.2022 Today is #InternationalMensDay and it's a timely reminder to focus on men's mental health. When you look at the research, it's staggering how far men are falling behind and the negative results that occur with men's mental health! Many studies have shown for example: High levels of alcohol and substance use... High rates of depression and anxiety High rates of death by suicide (more than three times more in males than females) High rates of loneliness as they get older Poorer health outcomes Shorter life expectancy However....when men give attention to their mental health and wellbeing, they can reverse and prevent these poorer heath outcomes and model the way for future generations of boys and men. The really good news is that improving our mental health and wellbeing is learned! It's a skill and a process. And just like learning anything new, it feels awkward at first, but as we keep practicising it becomes second nature. Join me for more tips this #Movember on men's mental health.

20.01.2022 May we care for ourselves properly.

20.01.2022 Tip 3: Have realistic expectations of family and friends. Just because it's Christmas, does not mean the attitudes or behaviours of relatives and friends will change. Accept this and plan how you will respond to help avoid conflict and keep things positive.

19.01.2022 Great reminder for this time of year! Try to take some of the pressure off yourself.

16.01.2022 Let's stop comparing. Focus on yourself and the people you're with for a less stressful Christmas.

16.01.2022 Slow down, do something you love, something to replenish your energy and care for yourself. #selfcaresunday

14.01.2022 Mental health needs a great deal of attention. It’s the final taboo and it needs to be faced and dealt with. Adam Ant

12.01.2022 "Let's be real and be there for each other". Listen to Justin's powerful story about how a conversation with a workmate helped him to 'take off the mask' and get the help he needed.

11.01.2022 " I tell people who are feeling depressed or anxious to lose the shame and get help from their GP or a mental health professional early. " It's Movember and we're sharing some real stories from men to help break down the stigma around men's mental health. Here's a link below to Graeme's Story: Depression doesn't discriminate.

10.01.2022 Tip 2: Delegate tasks and ask for help. If you're finding it stressful with all the tasks and responsibilities in the lead up to Christmas, communicate openly and remember it’s ok to say no. Ask for help and don’t carry the entire burden.

10.01.2022 So true. When we talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming.

09.01.2022 It's Movember and we're joining the conversation to raise awareness about men's mental health. "Can you spot a bro, whose feeling low?" - it's one of the questions from the campaign. It can often be tricky spotting a mate who’s struggling and then knowing what to say. Follow these 4 steps to start the conversation flowing: 1. Ask - Trust your instinct ... 2. Listen - Give your full attention, without judgement. 3. Encourage Action - Help him focus on something that will help. 4. Check-In - Catch up again soon. Don't underestimate the power of a simple conversation to change a life. Mental health websites such as @ruokday and @movember have lots of tips on spoting the signs and starting the conversation. 02.01.2022 Slowing down, not speeding up is the best way to reduce overwhelm. Focus on fewer things, delegate, say no to some things and reduce the hurry.
