12.01.2022 An important day to acknowledge. The Mabo case recognised the history of Indigenous dispossession in Australia, abolished the legal fiction of terra nullius, and changed the foundation of Australian land law. #mabo #inthistogether https://australianstogether.org.au//au/mabo-native-title/

11.01.2022 Today is World Elder Abuse Day, and it’s an area of social policy that needs greater awareness so that more can be done to help older people who are vulnerable to or experiencing abuse. Elder abuse is defined as any act occurring within a relationship where there is an implication of trust, which results in harm to an older person. Abuse may be physical, sexual, financial, psychological, social and/or neglect. Research suggests that most abuse is intra-familial and intergene...rational, with adult children most likely to be responsible. The World Health Organisation estimates that globally, almost one in six people aged 60 and over have experienced elder abuse, with many more incidences likely to go unreported. Due to Australia’s ageing population, it is likely that elder abuse may become more prevalent in the future, especially with the percentage of people 65 and over expected to reach 23 percent by 2055. 08.01.2022 Another international awareness day but one we want to celebrate - International Day for Persons with a Disability. More than 4 million Australians live with a disability and they all have a story to tell so we particularly liked this by ABC Australia - a series of programmes that tell stories by and about people with disability.
