25.01.2022 All set for training tomorrow #mentalhealthfirstaidtraining #mhfa #mentalhealthmatters #iamonemhfa

21.01.2022 New course date just added! If you know someone who is interested in learning how to help someone with a mental health problem please share!

21.01.2022 With statistics showing that 1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness in any given year, and those figures likely on the rise, it is more important than ever to know how to provide help to someone who might be developing a mental health problem. Book in to a Mental Health First Aid course now!

19.01.2022 Every time I deliver a training course I learn something, and that’s one of the things I love about what I do. I spent the last two days with a group of intelligent and insightful people who genuinely want to help others, which I always find truly inspiring. One of the things I did discover though was really disappointing. We all know that there is still a lot of stigma and misinformation surrounding mental illness in the community, but what I didn’t know was that there are... still GPs in Canberra (and probably nationwide) who are grossly uninformed! I was told that one woman went to a doctor here in Canberra as she was struggling with what she suspected was depression. She wanted to get a Mental Health Care Plan and a referral to a psychologist. The doctor told her that she had ‘nothing to be depressed about’. I also heard that a man visited a doctor to discuss his mental health and the doctor told him that ‘he couldn’t help him with that’. To be perfectly honest I am horrified by these reports. It takes an enormous amount of courage for people to not only identify in themselves that they need professional help, but to physically take the first steps in becoming well. I’m posting this story because I want people to know that if they’ve experienced something similar to please keep trying, and don’t give up. Mental illness is a medical condition that can be treated, and there are incredibly good medical professionals available who can help. I’m not suggesting that these uninformed medical professionals should be named and shamed, but I do think they should be reported through the appropriate channels to be re-educated. What are your thoughts?
