22.01.2022 Whoops! Remember that, both in Hong Kong and in New South Wales (and most states in Australia), it is NOT LEGAL to make a U turn at a traffic light intersection - unless signposted otherwise. There is a reason why - the offending driver in this video could easily have collided with the driver with the dashcam, who had the green light and therefore the right of way.
22.01.2022 Make sure your grandparents - and other elderly people in your life - are using their seat belts properly!
22.01.2022 Headlights are not just about seeing; they are also about BEING SEEN by other road users. In any condition where other people's ability to see and notice you clearly may be compromised - such as in the West, when the sky is overcast, when the sun is low in the morning or afternoon, in undercover situations like when driving in a tunnel, undercover car park etc - always turn your headlights on. I wish to remind everyone once again of how easy it is to forget to your your ligh...ts on, even at night, on modern vehicles due to their permanently-backlit dashboards. If you feel it necessary, adopt the habit of always switching your lights on immediately after starting the engine. It is far, far better to have your headlights on unnecessarily than to not have them on when necessary! Oh and, of course, every time you switch your lights on, ensure the lights are on low beam, not high beam!
19.01.2022 It is alleged that a person from Hong Kong visiting Sydney had a minor motor vehicle accident with another driver and, after showing this Hong Kong driving licence card to the other party, the Hong Kong visitor left the country without having settled the damages. Unlike Australian driver licences, Hong Kong's driving licence cards are not proof-of-identity cards. As you can see, the licence card is a very simple laminated piece of paper that can quite easily be forged - Hong ...Kong residents have a dedicated proof-of-identity card and therefore it is not necessary for a driving licence to be a very high-standard, forge-proof document useful for proving one's identity or place of residence. In the event of an accident, you should ask a HK licence holder not only for his/her licence, but also for his/her Hong Kong identity card or passport/travel document. If in doubt, call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 for advice. I would also like to hereby remind everyone the following: in the event of a motor vehicle accident in Australia, NEVER ADMIT FAULT, no matter how obvious it is. If your insurer finds out that you have already admitted responsibility, it may have the right to refuse to honour the claim and pay out for the damage. (Do not pay the other party any money at the scene as a "deposit", either; by paying them money you are in fact implying acceptance of liability.)
17.01.2022 A "public area" includes private property that is open to members of the general public - so yes, road laws still apply in a McDonald's car park and drive-thru...
16.01.2022 With high temperatures forecast, a timely reminder has been issued about dogs in utes. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid to high 30s for the next week ...or so. Utes and tray backs made of metal can heat up quickly and burn dogs' paws. 14.01.2022 Consider this your final warning - starting on Monday, these cameras consisting of artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be used to capture photographs of people using mobile phones whilst driving. The chances of being spotted and caught - automatically - is now much higher! The penalty is $337 and FIVE demerit points - make that ten points during double-demerit-point periods. Remember that in Australia, it is an offence for a driver to use a hand-held phone (or for a learner or P-plater to use a phone at all, even hands-free) even when his/her vehicle is stationary in traffic.
14.01.2022 "On-the-spot licence suspension" means the offender will not even be able to drive home after being caught over the limit - he/she will have to get two friends to come out, one to drive him home and the other to drive his car home for him. Or call a tow truck...
14.01.2022 https://www.9news.com.au//1ac36388-f415-4698-843f-7be2bf7a Please, ladies and gentlemen, NEVER drink and drive. Because it is not just yourselves who may pay the ultimate price for your selfish stupidity. In this case, it was four little children who were just out riding their bicycles who paid the ultimate price.
11.01.2022 Be in the habit of always locking your car's doors the moment you jump in your car. If your car has the function of automatically unlocking the doors when the engine is turned off, see if you can disable this function. For all ladies, and for men who are not very experienced drivers, I also recommend that you don't open your windows by more than an inch or two, so that a would-be attacker can't reach through so easily. If it becomes hot or stuffy turn the A/C on. Oh, but the ...guy in this story has a hammer, what good would the above do then? Which brings me to my third recommendation - when stopped, try to keep the car in gear, ready to go, and keep a good gap with the car in front (you should be able to see at least a bit of the tarmac behind the tyres of the vehicle in front) - so that you can steer around that car to make a quick escape at any time. The above of course won't guarantee that you'll never be successfully carjacked or otherwise attacked in your car, but we can only do what we can - and we sure should do what we can to not make it easy for the nasty ratbags out there, and do what we can to minimise our chances of falling prey to them.
10.01.2022 I'd say it would take a real bastard of a cop to book you for this - but if you are sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle with the engine running you are technically "driving". And a Maccas drive-thru, and its car park, are "public areas" because they are places that are open for the general public to access. So, technically, using a hand-held phone for any purpose in the drive-thru or car park while you're sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle with the motor running is a breach of the rule and can result in a fine and 5 demerit points in NSW. So make sure you cover your own backside in relation to this...
