24.01.2022 I know you have been waiting patiently for the details of the podcast. So here’s a sneak peek Name: Growing Agri People Podcast Launching: 01 September 2020 ... Developing this podcast was a way for me to share the real, ‘no fluff’ conversations that I think can help evolve us in a way that will grow the industry and each other. This podcast isn’t one of those shiny, highly produced productions. You’ll hear authentic conversations with real people, so from time to time, you may hear some light farm language. Fair warning. I look forward to introducing you to Growing Agri People’s inaugural guest. Heads up, she’s a cracker! #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia See more
22.01.2022 The SCARF Model is often used by HR professionals to understand human behaviour. The model is based on neuroscience research that indicates we have five social domains. Status our relative importance to others.... Certainty our ability to predict the future. Autonomy our sense of control over events. Relatedness how safe we feel with others. Fairness how fair we perceive the exchanges between people to be. Have ever been left out of an activity or not invited to a meeting? If so, how did you respond? You might have considered it as a threat to our status and relatedness. Research has shown that the response to this situation can stimulate the same region of the brain as physical pain, i.e. your brain sends a signal you’re in danger. When this part of the brain is activated, a hormone called cortisol is released (aka the stress hormone), which impacts our ability to think straight and decreases our productivity. Next time you’ve got a tricky situation to handle, consider using SCARF. #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia #growingagripeople
22.01.2022 That is possibly the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me! I love this industry and wouldn't be anywhere else.
21.01.2022 Happy #agdayau Whatever we talk about in farming - soil, pasture, livestock etc - we require people! People are the mess and magic of any successful business, community or industry. ... They are our greatest assets. A big shout out to the those who feed and clothe us, not just today, but every day! #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia #growingagripeople
21.01.2022 Is employee engagement important? Can it drive productivity? Can it improve the bottom line? Well, research into the topic tells us that it is importantand it can increase the performance and profitability of our businesses - by more than 20 per cent.... Employee engagement strategies are also proven to reduce staff turnover and lower absenteeism. Most importantly, engaged employees are happier, both at work and in their lives. When you reflect on when you feel engaged - how has it felt? Did it fill you with purpose, energy and enthusiasm? So, what strategies can contribute to employee engagement: Team lunches/smokos Have teams contribute to your systems and processes Allow them to spend time creating their own work projects Celebrate people birthdays, milestones Monday motivation /Friday wrap up Reimburse self-funded training Footy tipping competition Give them a paid RDO after a busy period Talk to them about how you could support them grow A genuine thank you or a compliment Let someone else lead the toolbox meeting Do a team-building activity Ask them for their ideas What do you do to engage your team? #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia See more

19.01.2022 What if your natural communication style was crippling the relationships you value the most, AND you didn’t realise? This was a sad reality for a client recently. They were complaining about workforce issues but were totally unaware of the fact they’d created it. ... Thankfully, with some coaching, that situation is now heading in the right direction. When you are leading others, it is critical to be clear in your communication and not expect others to be mind readers. Just the same as in the country down the road could be anywhere from a few hundred meters to a three-day drive! #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia #growingagripeople See more
18.01.2022 You care for the farm equipment according to the manufacturer’s specifications services, oil, grease, etc. What are you doing this weekend to care for yourself to ensure your performance is up to spec? #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia #growingagripeople
18.01.2022 I don't often draw attention to projects that I have done - so please excuse me while I indulge for a wee moment! I am extraordinarily proud and privileged to have delivered this project for 26TEN that will have significant benefits for agriculture in Tasmania. 16.01.2022 The time to prepare for drought isn’t when you are in drought. The headline was attached to article I just read about farming from Nebraska. And since then, it’s got me thinking about RUOK day. I nearly wasn’t going to post about it because there is so much banter on social media today (which is excellent, don’t get me wrong). ... But on the same token, while most individuals and businesses are talking about it for the right reasons, some are talking about it because it’s a popular topic that is trending across all social media platforms. Acknowledging that everyone’s journey is different, so I can only speak of my own. Reflecting on the times when I’ve been trying to roll sh!t uphill, has made me realise that if I replaced the word ‘drought’ in that headline for ‘mental health’ the same rings true. Without realising it, for me, it’s the work I have done in prevention that has had the greatest impact. Today (and every day) remember never underestimate the power that a simple conversation could have for someone. #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia #growingagripeople See more
14.01.2022 Please take five minutes to read this article "The mix of people, machinery, extended working hours and fatigue, makes for a potent cocktail increasing the risk of injury and downtime during harvest."

11.01.2022 While reviewing procedural documentation lately, one thing has stuck out like ..well you know.a header front! And that is how long, complicated and full of jargon they can be. Workplace documents should help readers quickly and easily understand employer requirements or expectations.... It doesn’t matter how good your content is or how much effort you put into it if you alienate your reader, the document will fail. #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia #growingagripeople See more

08.01.2022 Oh my goodness! I am literally blown away with the response to the launch edition of the podcast. Lots of great feedback from almost every corner of Australia even France and the United States like this one from the team at @probreed:... I gauge podcasts by would I like to meet the person? And did I learn anything? Both questions got a massive tick and a 5-star rating from me Looking forward to the next instalment. I am lost for words (and those who know me will tell you that’s no easy feat!) Thank you doesn’t seem adequate. I am feeling so much gratitide right now. #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia #growingagripeople See more

03.01.2022 Who says training has to be boring? During a team-building session, I recently brought the Lego out to prove a point. The group was told they’d be assigned team player or troublemaker and I gave them five minutes to plan their approach. ... The instructions were: 1 Build the exact Lego bull (left) in 45 minutes 2 One person at a time was allowed to look at it; and 3 They had to work together to build the bull. While they built the bull, they had to figure out who the troublemaker was. When time was up, we spoke about why the bull was not a replica. Examples of the rational were: Lack of proper instructions Time pressure Guarded communication Trying to identify the troublemaker Over analysing everyone’s actions All great points. Have to say they got reasonably close. Ohfor the record, everyone was a team player. But heck it was fun watching how they interacted with each other thinking there was a troublemaker in the mix! #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia #growingagripeople

02.01.2022 Proud to announce the safe arrival of my COVID baby Growing Agri People. Born 01 September 2020 52 minutes long Both mother and child are well.... The first guest on Growing Agri People is Claire Booth (Booth Agriculture) from Gueirie in the Central West of NSW. Claire is a farmer, Lawyer, Nuffield Scholar, above everything she’s a Mum. I am not sure how she fits everything in, but together with her husband Brendan, they are first-generation farmers operating mixed enterprise. In 2018, Claire embarked on Nuffield Scholarship, combining her passion from agriculture and law to understand from a global perspective what drives land values, and debt and financial literacy in agriculture. Claire generously shares her insights and knowledge in this interview, and we cover a broad range of topics in this interview. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! [Edit: seems that there have been some teething problems and the podcast hasn't loaded on some platforms - hopefully, that will rectify soon. Thanks for your patience.] #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia #growingagripeople
01.01.2022 Think about a leader you know that’s ‘in the drivers seat’. Does this person know how to hire well? Can they effectively explain how to do a task? Do they know how to mentor when needed?... Can they correct mistakes easily when needed Do they performance manage when people are out of line? Are they able to hold themselves accountable? How's the leader in your head doing? #inspireag #farmpeople #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureaustralia See more
