07.01.2022 When is the healthcare system going to realise we are failing Women? When are they going to realise that birth is more then the safe arrival of a baby? A sa...fe and I use that term loosely is the base line expectation. . Its about the Mother too, the birthing woman. She is a human & has a right to chose how she gives birth. She has a voice and it should be heard. Birth is not a medical emergency, it doesnt require micromanagement. Yes...yes at times it can be unpredictable and need medical intervention but thats the exception to the rule. How about we inform women of their choices, risks and alternatives first instead of trying to squeeze them all into a box no one fits. . Women need to be in control of their birth journey, not dictated to or bound by policy that in most cases isnt supported by an ounce of evidence. . How a mother is made to feel during her pregnancy, at the time of her birth & after will impact her for the rest of her life. Its about time our maternal healthcare system realises this, that our society realises this. . So, lets not shame women for their choices, especially for choices which are safe. . Lets make changes! . Lets look at our birth culture and lets bring it back to women centred care. Every woman and every birth deserves support, love & respect, period. . Imagine complete support and care during these vulnerable times. Imagine the difference it would bring to women and the flow on effect it would have to their families and our community as a whole!
