25.01.2022 Ivy is always exceptional. So are the people around her. Sometimes they do amazing quietly ... and sometimes on stage! ... Love you Nat Tamakehu & Southern Star Academy of Dance. You make dreams possible. Ps. She did a whole dance in her walker and I messed up my footage. Mum fail moment.
25.01.2022 First day of Grade 3. We think Ivy will have a great year!
24.01.2022 On Saturday night we loved attending the Words Out West Festival Gala dinner in Dalby as Kurt Fearnley, Paralympic Marathon Gold Medalist was the guest speaker! Kurt was so generous with his time before and after his presentation. He spent a lot of time talking to Herb and Ivy, encouraging them to grab life with both hands! He also told Ivy to keep being a rascal. She demonstrated this by filling her purse with chocolates from the dessert buffet! Clearly a besotted father t...alking with us about his two children and wife and excited for the next stage of his escapades and projects after retiring from competing. We are now devouring his book. I have included a photo of a paragraph that really spoke to me in the Foreword. Thank you to all who made this event happen in Dalby. I think this will be one of the moments that shapes Ivy and our future. Inspired to Act Kurt Fearnley Western Downs Libraries
24.01.2022 This star shines bright!
22.01.2022 Ivy is about to start the last week - week 3 of this intensive. We and her therapists are really pleased with he progress after a wobbly start. We have seen some of her best posture ever in standing and with VERY little support. Her independent transfers to and from her walker are almost completely independent in both directions which will make a huge difference for all that care for her. She also is having some great free time with a lovely high tea!
22.01.2022 Pretty excited to be seeing Kurt speak at a dinner with my family in DALBY next weekend!
21.01.2022 SHE DID IT! This has been a goal for about 7 years (Ivy is 8.) Sitting up from the floor with no assistance! Check out her reaction when she realises she had done it! Inspired!
21.01.2022 Ivys 9th Birthday! Family snuggles in the morning, nails and cafe birthday date and a garden tea party with lovely friends. She had a lovely day!
21.01.2022 Just found out about this cool new feature on Google Maps. I love that we can all contribute wherever we go so everyone can "know before they go". The volume of info could be huge and awesome!
21.01.2022 Dear Southern Star Academy of Dance Family - HELP please. Short notice but we are looking for a NEW helper for Ivy at Dance for 2020. One of Ivys helpers for 2019, Toni is transferring from Homeschooling to Mainstream this year so she is no longer able to help us 2 days a week. I have been procrastinating over the Xmas break so now it is a bit urgent! Our FIRST priority is to get her help in her Southern Star Jazz class starting next Wednesday afternoon 4:45-5:30pm. Ideall...y we think this would be a Southern Star Dancer who does not have a lesson or teach at that time. Probably a 14-17 year old girl. Pay based on age and experience but years of age has been our general starting point - e.g. $14/hr for a 14yo. Employed through the Eyecare Eyewear practice so covered by all insurances. It would be absolutely wonderful if this person was able to stretch to help us 2 afternoons a week from 3:15 till 6:15 (including the dance lesson) to work one on one with Ivys schedule of stretching, strengthening and walking therapy. There may also be further employment opportunities, however at this late notice just the dance lesson would be great. The qualities of this person would include but not limited to: Strong and able to help lift Ivy (with training by us) between her wheelchair/walker/toilet etc Outgoing and finds it easy to interact with children and adults Determined and motivated - Ivy needs to know they are firm but fun Reliable Around a 12-month commitment would be ideal should no unforeseen circumstances arise We think word of mouth will be the best way to find this fabulous person in Dalby. So please let anyone you know who you think would be suitable, share this info and have them contact us. We would love a brief CV and references as to character and employment history. Miss Hannah OBrien of Southern Star continues to work with Ivy on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Feel free to chat to her too, you can character reference us then! Fingers crossed you are out there special person! Ta, Michelle 0407 028 027 [email protected]
20.01.2022 Friday night we were so proud to watch Ivy & Pearl perform in the Southern Star Academy of Dance Dalby Winter Recital. This is an opportunity for us to introduce the lovely Toni Stone. Toni began with us in late April. She is crazy mature for her age, bright and bubbly and super intuitive with her help. She helps Ivy with Dance, Horse Riding and her home stretch program. On Friday night she was super brave and went on stage with Ivy. They did great! Dance is really hard bala...nce for Ivy. She loves the music and it is a group activity so she gets to enjoy doing something extracurricular with her friends and peers. It is also a great strength building and coordination activity. But it is an activity where her differences are really apparent. She does get very frustrated at what she cant make her body do. However she continues to persevere and make us so Inspired by See more
20.01.2022 Required to do Covid testing. All clear of course but thank goodness as well. Snotty nose is gone just the cough and asthma to heal now. Thank you so much for all your messages and PMs!
19.01.2022 After 7 short weeks at home Ivy is back in Sydney and in week 3 of 4 of intensive therapy. One of our goals this intensive has been walking the length of the parallel bars with no help. Look how far she has come!
19.01.2022 So this happened this morning.... I was doing mum stuff and Ivy was waiting for me, then from the other room came a quietly ecstatic voice I just sat up! I race in and saw this! This is the first time ever! Getting into sitting by herself on the floor has been a goal for a long time. On the bed is easier than the floor because your legs hang over and it is squishy. Three more days of this intensive therapy at NAPA and we cant wait to see what she does! I have always promi...sed a Sitting up Party when she achieves this goal..... stay tuned.... Inspired
19.01.2022 Congratulations to the Dalby South team members who travelled to Glennie today to participate in the Darling Downs SWD Athletics day. All team members had a gre...at day of competition and fun! Looking forward to medallion presentation during Parade this Wednesday. #lovedalbysouth #athletics2019 See more
18.01.2022 You know what makes us smile? Hearing your feedback on how we are doing. Ask our front desk for our parent survey next time you are in!
16.01.2022 I am feeling beyond upset. Today was to be Day 1 of a three week intensive physical therapy for Ivy. We travel from Dalby to Sydney three times a year for these and they are by far the main and most critical part of her impressive ongoing improvement. The first one for 2020 was cancelled 2 days in, due to covid. On Saturday our youngest started to show signs of a cold. This was after a 2 days at kindy, where there was a child with a bad cough. I didnt say anything. Its awkw...ard isnt it? So now here we are, we have calculated the risks of travelling from our covid free home town, to a much riskier Sydney, compared to the benefits for Ivys development and health. We have driven 2 days to get to Sydney. We have at risk grandparents relocated from their home to ours to care for Herb and Pearl left behind. Ivy has the cold. There is no way in the current health climate we can go to therapy. Even without covid. the center sees severely immunocompromised children and those with reduced lung function. We are also wasting a significant sum of money every 24hrs we dont attend but this is secondary at this point. The time is passed for pushing through sickness. I was definitely one of them - cough cold sniffles - oh well - dose them up with panadol or dimatap and send them off. Get well, stay home and dont share your germs. Even the common cold. No daycare, kindy, school or work. Use your sick leave. You dont know who or how your germs will impact others. End of rant.
16.01.2022 Grays Tractor Service Dalby thank you so much! The bracket on Ivys wheelchair footplate had cracked this week. I called today to see if they could help, and after dropping it in this afternoon it was repaired in under an hour! And very generously at no charge. Thanks Jacques! #lovedalby #lovecommunity
16.01.2022 I am looking for a Structured Drama Class in DALBY Please.... My daughter Ivy (almost 10yo) would love to do weekly Drama lessons outside school hours this year.... Starting as soon as possible. With the view to do Eisteddfod’s for fun, confidence, elocution and diction. I am also interested in enrolling my other two children but Ivy is the keen stater. Please message me with anything you know is available or any leads. Thanks in advance!!!! See more
15.01.2022 Happy Double Digits Darling Ivy. 10 years of us being fortunate enough to love you. You had a cracker day today... getting your ears pierced the very first day you qualified in our family rules. You almost backed out and used some colourful words immediately after, but did it! Then Burgers and Ice Cream with a great friend and a family dinner and Cake at home. You are such a kind, thoughtful and generous young lady. As you grow up you are able to express to us quite clearly your frustrations with Cerebral Palsy. It is a tough road some days, but one that is bound to continue to make you into an extraordinary person. We are so proud to be on the ride with you. Love you to the moon and back Ivy. Happy 10th Birthday! Thomas John Roger
14.01.2022 Not entirely appropriate but I thought you may all get a giggle....I just went to get coins in preparation to pay out weekly pocket money and checked for any losses... This appears against Ivy’s name... Apparently when you have a Dissabilty you resort to the tools at hand to defend against your brother
14.01.2022 She is back! We were able to attend therapy for two days last week after symptoms, with extra precautions above the standard daily contactless temp check, hand washing etc. They included masks and isolation rooms. Today she was back to her usual larger than life self, and strong. Awesome work in all 4 hours. Working hard on that Glute Medius with a TASES device amongst other awesome strategies to help her stand strong & tall on both legs, equally and with confidence. Thanks so much for all your get well wishes!
13.01.2022 Grays Tractor Service Dalby thank you so much! The bracket on Ivy’s wheelchair footplate had cracked this week. 13.01.2022 This was on the other night about Ivys surgery. More and more kids having it. Change will come. The Queensland Childrens Hospital is collecting data on Ivy and all the other kids that have the surgery here and overseas in order to more forward. Like the other families in this article, we couldnt wait that long. But the way is being paved for the future... inspired.
13.01.2022 Its the little things.... There was a leak outside school last week and Ivy begged to jump in the puddle. I refused, until.... she pointed out she has never been able to stomp in a puddle herself. She loved it! Thank you for making it possible.
12.01.2022 Ivy's updated school information letter for 2020 for you. EDIT - I didnt realise all 3 pages didnt show. Fixed.
11.01.2022 Ivy has smashed out FOUR weeks or 80 HOURS of intensive therapy. I cant even imagine how that would feel if I were to do that with a personal trainer! School holidays are near an end, so now a special treat for her. Two nights on camp with the beautiful women from Conductive Education Queensland CEQ Conductive Education QLD. She is also with six other beautiful, special children. They will learn and grow so much as they always do. Ivy thrives on this experience of Independence from me and her siblings. We have just dropped her off and miss her already but know she will have a blast.
11.01.2022 Star in Daddys eyes
10.01.2022 Last year Ivy participated in this sports camp and it was incredible! She is fortunate to be included again this year in April. It will be bigger and even more amazing by all accounts. After all the generous sponsorship - the estimated cost per person is around $200. We have donated to cover our costs but thought I would share so those kids who might not be able to access it can. Note: this is not a donation for Ivy but another great cause! Inspired
09.01.2022 I can sooo see Ivy rocking this!
09.01.2022 Ready to smash out another three weeks of therapy. Our last for 2019. This is Ivy having a go at standing with quad canes. This is a new and scary thing for her.
08.01.2022 What a fantastic weekend we had at Words Out West! A big thank you to everyone who came along to our events on the weekend - we hope you had as much fun as we did. Check out some of these beautiful photos snapped at the Gala Dinner on Saturday night
07.01.2022 Ivy has also been learning the art of the structured debate during standing. NAPA team are GENIUS at making therapy fun! The topics are all Harry Potter related and drawn from a hat. Then the character is drawn from a hat and finally affirmative or negative is drawn. There are points, rebuttals and an adjudicator. She has won 3 out of 4 so far, all against adults!
06.01.2022 Haavvee you met Louise? Job title: Clinic Manager aka Clinic Mum What do you love about your job? ... The amazing families I get to meet and help from all over Australia, and around the world. Making a tangible and real difference each day for children with disabilities - including my own child. Expanding their skills, their potential, and their worlds and giving hope and happiness to everyone around them. And the incredible friendships I've made at NAPA with the beautiful and talented team I work with. They really are the best. I feel so lucky to be such a big part of this. Hobbies outside of work: Long walks Yoga Wine Coffee Playing with my dog Gardening home renovation magazines/shows Weekends away The kids and husband (if they are being nice!) Time is my enemy though for some of these hobbies, but wine time is never affected Fun facts about me: I was a dancer and state level 400m runner I was a graphic designer on Sainsbury’s food magazine in London Funniest NAPA moment: "Book Week" was the end of intensive theme where kids dress as their favourite book characters. There were lots of typical kids books dress ups like Cinderella, Spot the Dog etc - and then little Ivy Roger appeared out of the lift in full "Mary from the Bible cradling baby "Cheesus"" outfit. Amazing!!!
06.01.2022 A picture says a thousand words... these girls walking away from their wheelchairs!!!!! We caught up with our friends Avalon and her parents Lachlan & Kristie Chambers this afternoon. The girls and us Mums bonded at NAPA therapy over their matching pink wheelchairs, same age, similar abilities, talent for talking endlessly and loving creating crazy imaginary stories. Now we have a special friendship and always try to catch up when in Sydney. Avalon has the same surgeries Ivy... had but one year earlier. Her progress has been steady and excellent. She is a little window into what future progress may look like for Ivy. Again look at that picture! The girls walking away from their wheelchairs!!!!!
05.01.2022 Ivy’s friend Avalon was part of this awesome flash mob in Sydney! So cool!
05.01.2022 On Saturday our children were honoured to receive Children of Courage Awards at the Lions Club of Dalby Inc. Thank you so much for the nomination. The children were really proud. It was lovely to see so many of the special kids we know there too. In our case the award gave Ivy pride & confidence and helped Herbert and Pearl realise how special their roles are with a sister wth a dissability. Thank you so much Julianne Shipway and all The Lions.

05.01.2022 Mind Blown! ....... On the weekend Ivy was fortunate to participate in the Variety - the Children's Charity of Queensland- first ever Sports Camp for children with a disabilities. It was awesome and intense! Long post following sorry, but just look at the pics if you dont have time..... It was held at the incredible sports centre at Runaway Bay. We stayed on site just like athletes at the Commonwealth Games! Ivy was able to participate in skill building like: Wheelchair Main...Continue reading
03.01.2022 Almost at the end of week 2. Ivy has found herself in space! She is able to feel the middle without us telling her she is there. Her posture is improving, she can actively shift her weight from leg to leg and her walking is so much faster, stronger and really importantly, more correctly aligned! She is tired but confident and determined.
02.01.2022 Meet Abbi and her beautiful family They are NZ'ers living in Australia with a child who has a disability and always trying to help out others in similar situations. Attitude is a NZ show who came over to film a show about them. Abbi conceived and orchestrated the incredible Variety Kids Sports Qld Camp Ivy attended last year. (This year has been postponed due to covid )... Such a great clip about her family and what they've done to give Josh every opportunity possible You can see Ivy in a quite a few bits filmed at camp nearer the end.
02.01.2022 This is a big part of the reason we underwent SDR surgery. It makes me so glad to know we have halted this process in Ivys legs.
01.01.2022 We have found a new special helper for Ivy! Thank you so much to all that shared and applied. I was once again sooooo impressed by the wonderful caliber of young women in Dalby. What a great place to live with awesome people! Inspired. We have found a new special helper for Ivy! Thank you so much to all that shared and applied.
