23.01.2022 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT I Instant Gardens Project: The Vines The client brief for this garden makeover was to update their existing native garden to a more classic ...and timeless design. They wanted less maintenance, to be seasonal with colour and provide sensory enjoyment. They also wished to retain some of the existing natives. The area had originally been planted out with natives which had been neglected and left to become overgrown and crowded. The existing pathways were very structured and paved with harsh lines, not offering much visual appeal against the home. Several of the larger shrubs and grasses were removed and replanted with star jasmine as a ground cover providing depth and colour with the deep green foliage and fragrant white flowers. The mass planting is easily maintained; hedging and kept low will also provide ground coverage preventing soil erosion from the strong easterlys and great water conservation. Box hedging was used to add some formality and the stone and granite pavers along the curved path create curves and fluidity.
