24.01.2022 Today's Excelerate group are visiting the AMP Goals Experience Centre. Such a fabulous place!

21.01.2022 The focus is currently on the fallout from the Hayne Banking Royal Commission but these uncertain times present opportunities for customer-owned banks. The credit unions, building societies and mutual banks, which were founded to serve the members that own them, may well be seen as a safer haven for members of the public distrustful of banks following the Royal Commission revelations. Now may be an excellent time for our alternative banking structures to highlight the decades... they have spent building and maintaining the trust of their customer-owners and embracing wider ethical concerns. At the Instil Strategy Conference on 29 February 2019 in Sydney, highly respected ABC journalist Annabel Crabb will discuss how we, as a sector, might put our best feet forward. And, of course, she will provide her unique perspectives on Australian politics in this election year. There will also be insights from Global Data about how international markets are responding to Open Banking and the disruption Australia may expect from the arrival of the ‘neo banks’, like Volt. As our customers age, the Mutuals’ sector needs to attract a younger cohort. The Canadian Credit Union Association’s Martin Reed will unpack how our Canadian colleagues are successfully targeting the often-unpredictable Millennials. The Instil Strategy Conference program will also feature mutual and industry leaders sharing their social, ethical and digital customer strategies. All this with a view to helping pull together the threads of the many challenges out there into a clearer strategic narrative. http://www.instilgroup.com.au//2019-Industry-Strategy-Conf

20.01.2022 Visibility of the customer owned brand has always been important, but now more than ever. Speaking to recent initiatives in Canada, the Canadian Credit Union Association’s Martin Reed observes ad recallers of the recent ‘Some Choices Matter’ awareness campaign were significantly more likely to be informed about credit unions and how they differ from banks (a 21% increase), and to consider a credit union product or relationship (a 22% increase). The campaign ad messages reso...nated with Canadian audiences, with nearly a quarter of respondents strongly agreed they were convincing 50% above the norm. The ‘Get Your Share’ member acquisition program has delivered over 40,000 members to date, with an average relationship value of $39,045 each. Martin speak to the background and success of these initiatives at the upcoming Instil Industry Strategy Conference. http://www.instilgroup.com.au//2019-Industry-Strategy-Conf

15.01.2022 Neo or Digital Banks are of course now here notably with the recent full banking licence granted to Volt Bank. As the GlobalData Digital-Only Banks: Threat or Motivator report observes, one in three consumers globally indicate a willingness to transfer their primary banking relationship to a digital-only provider. The research also suggests neo banks face difficult challenges that technology or price can’t solve. Drawing from their comprehensive 2018 Retail Banking Su...rvey GlobalData’s Andrew Haslip and Arnie Cho will speak to the risks digital-only banks present to customer owned banking at the upcoming Instil Industry Strategy Conference specifically identifying vulnerable customer segments and actions to aid retention prospects; in addition to considering the merits of ‘wholehearted emulation’ vs. the digitizing of selected parts of the value proposition to mitigate the threat. 10.01.2022 The Royal Commission has woken up consumers as to how their banks really operate. Socially responsible investment has always been a major competitive advantage for mutual banks, particularly in light of the Commission report. In many ways social responsibility is part of the DNA of the sector, and it’s now time to turn socially responsible banking into a strategic opportunity. Indeed, there may never be a better time for mutuals to focus on socially responsible practice as c...ore business. Corin Millias, Manager, Ethical Business Strategy at TMBL will lead discussion on this important area at the upcoming Instil Strategy Conference. In a broader context, KPMG’s Brendan Twining will also provide an analysis of the performance of the sector, and the opportunities and issues facing mutuals over the next 12-24 months.
