24.01.2022 For those wondering about parenting plans or family court directives at this time, please see this communique. Ideally nothing should be varied, but if it needs to be, then best interest of children should come first at all times. COVID-19 isn’t an excuse to remove either parents rights to access to their child. However, due to the rate of transmission, there may need to be minor or major changes made. Ideally these should be done by mutual agreement and recorded in writing, with agreement from both parents. Have a read for more information. http://www.familycourt.gov.au//connect/fcoaweb/about/news/

22.01.2022 Free Training - Disability and Community Sector As per previous post, I have now set up the Dropbox with the first few sessions of training. https://www.dropbox.com//afcjwk/AACqJRzSd327XhtXt5_hDmRJa <--Dropbox Link to Free Training Sessions. ... The first two sessions available are Medication Assistance and Supporting Participants who have Epilepsy. The link will take you to the Learning Resources, Assessment and the Zoom video session where I deliver the content. In this same link is a short video (in the folder called 'For Service Providers') which is from a meeting, instructing service providers / families in how to use the resources and a little more about what is happening. This may help to understand the content. The meeting to discuss and introduce this is 9am tomorrow morning, at the link provided in an earlier post. Happy training... Tara

12.01.2022 Let’s not forget the importance of celebrating our diversity, not attempting to change people. I don’t promote conversion, I work with people to navigate their environment the way they want to, with any accommodations they would like. People don’t have to make eye contact to provide respect, we can choose to not need it to infer respect.

10.01.2022 I was just sent this awesome information from an Accounting firm I’ve done a lot of work with. They said I can post it here. Very helpful information and so succinct. Thanks to Gabor Calderbank and Lyons Judge QLD for this. 1. Supporting Individuals and Households...Continue reading

10.01.2022 This affected me today, on many levels. Naturally it’s an analogy that I’m sure many of us can relate to. https://fb.watch/1SR3en_v8A/

09.01.2022 Here’s the new restrictions, for those who weren’t glued to the PM delivery last night. If you’re unsure if your business or situation falls into this, think about the intention of this direction, don’t get lost in the micro details. The intention is to stop ppl gathering with more than 5-10 anywhere. If whatever you’re doing is going to lead to that, then these requirements are asking you to not do that. ... Keeping schools still open is not because the Government doesn’t care about children and Teachers, it’s because closing schools will take the ass out of our health care and essential services sector (at least 30% won’t be able to go to work) - we will lose specialist knowledge that we can’t replace with another bum on a seat. We also can’t control parents actually looking after children once released. The risk to children is currently negligible on an international level, by keeping schools open, so the advice to keep schools open is essential and necessary. If you have options for your children to enable them to not go to school, without affecting essential services - please God, keep them home! Let’s make it a much less busy environment at schools and reduce the danger and workload of our hero teachers who are still turning up. A big and most sincere thanks to ALL those still working in essential services. Our health care workers Our Teachers Our food production people Our internet people Our retail workers Our logistics workers and manufacturers Our Government agency folk, such as those at Centrelink. You ppl are heroes right now. Much thanks

08.01.2022 I don’t know where to apply credit, but beautiful words. A letter from school principal and teacher in Sydney ...... Dear parents with school aged children... You might be inclined to create a minute by minute schedule for your kids. You have high hopes of hours of learning, including online activities, science experiments, and book reports. You’ll limit technology until everything is done! But here’s the thing... Our kids are just as scared as we are right now. Our kids not only can hear everything that is going on around them, but they feel our constant tension and anxiety. They have never experienced anything like this before. Although the idea of being off of school for weeks sounds awesome, they are probably picturing a fun time like summer break, not the reality of being trapped at home and not seeing their friends. Over the coming weeks, you will see an increase in behavior issues with your kids. Whether it’s anxiety, or anger, or protest that they can’t do things normally - it will happen. You’ll see more meltdowns, tantrums, and oppositional behavior in the coming weeks. This is normal and expected under these circumstances. What kids need right now is to feel comforted and loved. To feel like it’s all going to be ok. And that might mean that you tear up your perfect schedule and love on your kids a bit more. Play outside and go on walks. Bake cookies and paint pictures. Play board games and watch movies. Do a science experiment together or find virtual field trips of the zoo. Start a book and read together as a family. Snuggle under warm blankets and do nothing. Don’t worry about them regressing in school. Every single kid is in this boat and they all will be ok. When we are back in the classroom, we will all course correct and meet them where they are. Teachers are experts at this! Don’t pick fights with your kids because they don’t want to do math. Don’t scream at your kids for not following the schedule. Don’t mandate 2 hours of learning time if they are resisting it. If I can leave you with one thing, it’s this: at the end of all of this, your kids’ mental health will be more important than their academic skills. And how they felt during this time will stay with them long after the memory of what they did during those weeks is long gone. So keep that in mind, every single day.

06.01.2022 Dear Parents, Today may be the first day for many of you home-schooling your little people. As a behaviour analyst and (still) registered Teacher, I want to give you some advice. 1. Your children's development and education will not disappear or significantly regress with one day, one week or one month of different, reduced or no structured education. Learning opportunities exist everywhere. Many TV shows for children have strong educational basis and most things children d...Continue reading
