22.01.2022 Insurance news reports that although insurers will hit the billion dollar mark with claims costs this fire season. There is a small silver lining By comparison this number is still only half of the costs of black Saturday and 1/3 of the total costs of the Ash Wednesday fires. A salute to the work of the rfs and all volunteers. Let’s pray that this number doesn’t continue to rise. The sad news is the amount of area burnt is believed to be over 10 million hectares bigger than ...anything we have seen. Full article in comments.

10.01.2022 Coronavirus and Insurance Unfortunately until final decisions are made the response under each insurance policy is unknown and it will vary on a case by case basis. With a large number of exclusions implemented across the industry after the last bout of viral outbreaks (think Asian flu )cover for these scenarios has always been limited and hard to obtain due to the massive fall outs.... One policy that has not been talked about so much is Work Cover. Just released is an interesting article highlighting the next topic of conversation what happens should workers become infected on the job.... https://www.insurancenews.com.au//pandemic-finity-predicts

03.01.2022 Staff Working from home?? Might be time to look at that cyber insurance, but how can you stay safe in the mean time? Some great tips from Emergence Insurance below: How do I stay safe?... Ensuring good cyber security measures now is the best way to address the cyber threat. Consider implementing these proactive strategies: Review your business continuity plans and procedures Ensure your systems, including virtual private networks and firewalls, are up to date with the most recent security patches Implement multi-factor authentication for remote access systems and resources (including cloud services) Ensure your staff and stakeholders are informed and educated in safe cyber security practices, such as identifying socially engineered emails and messages Ensure your data is backed up daily and automatically Increase your cyber security measures in anticipation of the higher demand on remote access technologies by your staff, and test them ahead of time If you use a remote desktop solution, ensure it is secure Ensure staff working from home have physical security measures in place. That minimises the risk of information being accessed, used, modified or removed from the premises without authorisation Ensure your work devices, such as laptops and mobile phones, are secure Ensure you are protected against Denial of Service threats.
