18.01.2022 Happy Monday. A treat to look forward to at the end of a hectic week, a detox bath. Ingredients - 2 1/2 cups Epsom salts or rock salt, 1/4 - 1/2 cup of Coconut oil or sesame oil (never use olive oil), 1 - 2 cups of Apple cider vinegar. Method: Combine Coconut oil into Epsom salt or rock salt, combine gently. ... Fill bath tub with warm water (as warm as you feel comfortable with) add Apple cider vinegar to bath. Stand in tub and rub the salt and oil mix over your body, once completed soak in the water for around 15 minutes. Stand under a cool shower to reduce heart rate after the bath. Have a drink of water once finished. Note: If you have high blood pressure - reduce the temperature of the water as this detox bath may increase your heart rate, You do not need to stay in for the full 15 minutes if your heart rate is increasing. Oil in the bath tub = slippery - be careful and clean the bath afterwards. You will notice a scurf rim around the tub. Your skin will feel lovely and nourished. Enjoy.
17.01.2022 Dare to dream..... then take ACTION! What are the steps I need to put into place to make these dreams a reality? Chunk it down - 1 day, 1 week, 1 month at a time. Then start! ... If your goal is to be fitter and healthier in 2016 - When are you going to start? What are you going to do? Starting with healthier food choices for breakfast and then setting up 2 - 3 times per week for some exercise is a good starting point. Happy Goal setting and planning for 2016. May it be the best year yet, filled with Happiness, Health, Love and Abundance. Happy New year. :)
17.01.2022 I have been away from face book over the last few months due to study commitments. Once the studies are finished (23rd July) I will be back with more posts and useful tips. Thanks for your patience.
17.01.2022 Sadly, it appears that ALP are going to remove private health rebates for Natural Therapies! If you use Natural therapies, please contact your local ALP member and express your concern about this policy. MOST IMPORTANT PLEASE READ 2016 Labor Party Health Policy Bill Shorten and the Labor Party are ceasing the rebate for Natural Therapies.1... If Labor is elected what will it mean? 1. Private health rebates and insurance for Natural Therapies may be reduced or stopped and the average cost of a visit to a Practitioner could increase by approximately $20.2 2. More pressure on the underperforming and overburdened Medicare and health care system. 3. The Natural Therapies industry is represented by approximately 25,000 small to medium businesses this policy is highly likely to have a negative effect on employment numbers in the industry throughout Australia. Why are Natural Therapies and Medicines important to Australia? Two out of three Australians have used complementary or Natural Medicines over the past 12 months and approximately 42% of these use Complementary Medicines to prevent or manage chronic, high priority health problems. Complementary Medicines are not only effective in a range of chronic health conditions, but they can offer a genuine opportunity to reduce disease burden in a cost effective manner.3 In addition, the industry that produces Complementary and Natural Medicines generates $4.3 billion in sales per year, representing 6,000 highly skilled jobs and 73 TGA approved manufacturing plants.4 Natural Therapies is a growth industry delivering cost effective health outcomes and significant economic benefits for Australia. If this is a concern for you, speak to your local Labor candidate and let them know how you feel. To find out who your candidate is visit: www.alp.org.au/people or www.openaustralia.org

14.01.2022 The theme for this week is....
14.01.2022 Day 2 of Christmas left overs - Think food safety. Time to use up the left over meats by recreating a dish. If there are additional meat (with the exception of Ham and other smoked / preserved meats) it is Freezer time.
14.01.2022 Sharing a photo recipe of my Rainbow Salad. This is one of my favourite go to meals. Preparing on a Sunday, placing in an air tight container and I grab it out each day - Raw for lunch add a splash of dressing or a squeeze of lemon juice or avocado and protein of choice (only add the dressing on the day that you are going to eat it). Dinner - makes a great stir fry. Tip: Use your food processor, it saves a lot of time.
12.01.2022 Food Glorious food... There are 6 essential nutrients that are required for health. Protein, Carbohydrates, Fats (Essential fatty acids), Vitamins, Minerals and Water. Out of the 6 - Water is the key. How much water have you had today? Aim for at least 2 liters (minimum), hydrating through out the day, not guzzling it all at once. Bear Grylls rules of 3 - you can survive 3 minutes without air, 3 days with out water and 3 weeks without food.
11.01.2022 Here is a very quick and easy dish to use up left over meats and vegetables, suitable for this time of year. Meat and Vegetable Frittata. Ingredients: ... (this will serve 6 - it is in a 30cm pan) reduce quantities for a smaller pan. 250 grams of left over meat (I used Pork and Turkey), 250 grams of left over veggies (I used a combination of steamed and roast vegetables) 10 - 12 large eggs. Method: Preheat oven to 220 degrees C Lightly oil oven safe pan (if pan is non stick you can skip this step), Roughly dice up meat and add to pan, Add vegetables (if larger chunks dice up, for a more rustic look leave the vegetables whole), Heat through on stove top - medium to high heat - approximately 3 - 5 minutes. Crack eggs into a dish and whisk thoroughly (if you require a little salt and pepper to taste or feel like adding some herbs now is the time). Pour over the top of meat and vegetables in the pan, Cook and stir on stove top for 1 minute (as you would for scrambled eggs). Place pan into oven and cook for 15 minutes (if the quantities are smaller cooking time is generally 8 - 10 minutes). Serve with a side salad and enjoy.
10.01.2022 The Zika virus is receiving a lot of publicity. With 2 confirmed cases in Sydney. (they had traveled to infected countries). For those that live in FNQ you will see the familiar "footy socks" pattern on the mosquitoes - Aedes Aegypti (what we call the dengue fever mozzie) Key facts from the World Health Organisation (WHO) - Zika virus disease is caused by a virus transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. ... People with Zika virus disease usually have a mild fever, skin rash (exanthema) and conjunctivitis. These symptoms normally last for 2-7 days. There is no specific treatment or vaccine currently available. The best form of prevention is protection against mosquito bites. The virus is known to circulate in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific. For more information go to http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/zika/en/

08.01.2022 Fussy kids or teenagers who "won't eat fruit". Give this Berry Fruity pie a go. I have only added 1 dessert spoon of coconut sugar sprinkled over the fruit. You could leave the sprinkled sugar out. This is a nice treat. Make your pastry (I use a GF pastry recipe from Maggie Beer), Ingredients: ... 1 punnet of Blueberries, - Frozen berries can be used. 1 punnet of Raspberries, 1 punnet Blackberries, 3 Granny smith apples, 3 Pink ladies apples, Lemon juice. Method: Cut up the fruit and add to a bowl of lemon juice, Grease pie tin Line pie tin with pastry base, Layer the fruit in the pie shell, Sprinkle coconut sugar, Add a small amount of butter to the fruit, Apply pie lid, Bake - 180 Degrees C for 45 minutes.
03.01.2022 Time to talk about Chia Seeds or Salvia hispanica or Lamiaceae, It is a flowering plant that comes from the mint family. This humble seed is a powerhouse of nutrition. It is a rich source of Omega 3's and 6's, B vitamins, Magnesium,Zinc and the list goes on. It has a mild taste and is very easy to add to smoothies or to make delicious puddings. Note: Don't eat them dry of a spoon, especially if you have dysphagia or esophageal weakness - make them into a jelly or pudding. I always add them to food, breakfast cereal, smoothie or make a gel (jelly) from them. (See the Chia seed pudding recipe).
03.01.2022 Goal setting for the year ahead. Starting the year off with an outline of what you would like it to look like. What would you like to achieve in 2016? If you were able to do anything at all, what would it be? The rule of 3's - Set 3 short term goals that are achievable within the first quarter of the year.... Set 3 -Medium term Goals for what you would like to achieve by the end of the year. Set 3 Long term goals - this may take you 2 - 3 years to complete, however, you start the ball rolling in 2016.
03.01.2022 Sugar is fast becoming one of the biggest health concerns. AMA recommends the following guidelines for sugar consumption: Men: 9 teaspoons per day (37.5 grams)... Women: 6 teaspoons per day (25 grams) Guess how much sugar is in a can of cola? 330 ml = 35 grams of sugar Flavoured milk? 236 ml = 28 grams WHO recommend that adults consume a maximum of 6 teaspoons of sugar per day. How much sugar are you eating each day? Look for the hidden sugars in canned and packaged foods.
