Diversification of psychotherapy, research agenda and Complementary and Alternative Therapies (CATs) are encouraging the discipline and profession of psychology toward a mind-body hol...ism, represented in the emerging field of Transpersonal Psychology (TP). Integrative psychology practice scepticism remains, despite the growing evidence bases supporting the effectiveness of CATs. We use a qualitative framework to explore perspectives of six practitioners trained/training in psychology and CATs/TP, around potential benefits and barriers to an integrative psychology practice. Thematic analysis found that participants had life experiences that disrupted their assumptions of mind-body dualism, encouraging beliefs that an integrated psychology practice had greater benefits through improved therapeutic relationships and specialisation options, offering a practice reflective of holism, connectedness, and contemporary society. Barriers included biases, the scientist-practitioner model, and governance. Results activate conversation about the importance of a transpersonally oriented integrative psychological practice for the 21st century. See more
