15.01.2022 Flu Shots have Arrived! - Please call reception on 02 6247 5742 to book into our Flu Clinics. COVID 19 AND FLU SHOTS The Federal Department of Health has advised that getting the flu and COVID-19 at the same time can make you very ill. We are therefore encouraging all our patients (barring those with respiratory symptoms- see below) to come to the Practice for a flu shot.... PATIENT SAFETY To ensure the safety of our patients, doctors and staff, we will continue with all our usual COVID 19 precautions when giving patients flu shots. In particular, we will ensure that patients with serious respiratory symptoms are not seen at the Practice. APPOINTMENTS If you want an appointment for a flu shot you must ring us, on 6247 5742. You cannot make an appointment on-line. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT PATIENTS DO NOT ATTEND THE PRACTICE WITHOUT A PRIOR TELEPHONE DISCUSSION WITH OUR STAFF OR DOCTORS. Patients with respiratory symptoms When you ring for an appointment, you will be asked a series of questions centering on respiratory symptoms indicative of corona virus infection. These symptoms are: shortness of breath, cough, sore throat or fever. If you have respiratory symptoms, you will be offered a telehealth consultation with one of our doctors. Depending on the outcome of that discussion you will be given an appointment for a flu shot at the Practice. If you develop respiratory symptoms after you have made your appointment, you MUST ring us for further assessment on the MORNING OF YOUR consultation. ADMINISTRATION OF THE FLU SHOT Patients on arrival at the Practice will wait briefly in reception and will be given a consent form, with their details already filled in, for signature. The patient will then be shown to a room where a doctor and nurse will administer the vaccination. The patient then waits for 15 minutes before departing. Doctors, nurses and staff all wear masks and gloves and/or make regular use of hand sanitisers. Rooms are cleaned after each patient, as are all pens clipboards etc. https://www.ihco.net.au/

07.01.2022 Covid-19 Information There is a lot of information and misinformation out there about this new disease called COVID-19. Obviously, the situation is changing quickly and we suggest that for updated information, the following links are useful. https://health.act.gov.au//updated-information-about-covid https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//dise/Pages/coronavirus.aspx... In addition, you would probably like to know as a patient, how we are handling COVID-19 at Interchange Health Co-op All patients who ring up for an appointment at Interchange Health Co-Op will be asked if 1. they have travelled in the last month. 2. If they have travelled, whether they have arrived from China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, France, Germany or USA in the last 14 days or 3. have developed symptoms of a respiratory infection within 14 days of return to Australia from one of the countries listed above or 4. have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 infection. If someone answers yes to 2, 3 or 4, they will be put through to our nurse. The nurse will assess how unwell the patient is and if there is any uncertainty, he or she will seek the assistance of one of our doctors. Patients who are unwell with a high fever, shortness of breath and/or frequent, severe coughing will be directed to one of our Emergency Departments. Patients with mild symptoms will be directed to the Weston Walk in Clinic at 24 Parkinson St, Weston ACT 2611 which can perform tests for COVID-19. Currently, we are trying to limit the number of suspect patients and COVID-19 patients we see at Interchange Health Co-Op as we are not able to replenish our stock of personal protective equipment from our medical suppliers and we still not certain what the Federal Government plans to do about replenishing our stocks. Patients who have returned from a country on our list within 14 days but who are asymptomatic will be asked if the matter for which they seek an appointment can wait until more than 14 days after their return. If not, we will try and see if the matter can be resolved without an appointment. If not, the patient will be given advice as to how to attend the clinic without potentially transmitting an infection. These arrangements have been put in place to limit the risk to patients attending Interchange Health Co-Op as well as safeguarding the health of the staff and doctors at Interchange Health Co-Op. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but hope you understand the reasons for our actions. These arrangements will also change as the presence of the disease evolves in Australia. Interchange Health Co-op will be offering Telehealth and video appointments in the coming fortnight - To be offered to those who are covered under the new MBS Billing items. We will update you when this service is available and to who this service will be available for once confirmed by Medicare.
