22.01.2022 From the Association for Children with a Disability (ACD): With the sudden increase in COVID-19 cases in Victoria, we are all concerned about what this means for our children and families. Here is a link to a great social story about the COVID-19 test https://bit.ly/3e1lQ0e... With all the news about COVID-19, it can be difficult to keep up with the latest advice. The key messages remain the same: * Wash your hands * Keep 1.5m apart * Stay home if you or anyone in your family is sick * Get tested, even if you have very mild symptoms The link to the COVID-19 webpage has the latest information, including how to safely use Support Workers. https://bit.ly/31PVVGa Stay safe everyone!

21.01.2022 The Lets CreARTe! Art Program that Interchange Inner East is running is in an all-inclusive, all abilities art program catered to support every artists individual journey for creative independence, freedom and self-expression. The Program went online within a month of Covid 19 hitting in the first wave and it has been a huge success! Running for 12 weeks now, artists have enjoyed engaging with the activities and learning about different artists, materials and techniques, an...d getting a little creative with what materials they have at home. They have been amazed at the work and creativity which each artist has produced! Some of their wonderful volunteers joined the group, and they have been invaluable to this program. They are continuing to grow and hopefully will have more art options for both online and eventually face to face again. THANK YOU to the wonderful artists, families, volunteers and workers! Let us keep the creativity flowing and keep CreARTing!

With the new measures in place making mask wearing compulsory for those over 12 years old, Interchange Outer East have put together this resource. Everyone is wearing masks while out and about, and this might help explain what you'll see when your support worker wears one. Remember, staying apart keeps us together!

14.01.2022 Although isolation has been lifted, we are still living in a different world where we're more home-bound, and aware when we leave the house about social distancing. Especially during this time, we still need to make time to unwind and have time to ourselves. Unplug you and your family for a time - and make some memories! #interchange interchange.org.au

12.01.2022 Volunteering with Interchange Outer East! Interchange Outer Easts volunteer orientation is now ONLINE! To celebrate and get to know some of our new volunteers better we ran our second vollie orientation on Wednesday with great success! Missing the technical difficulties of the first session, we had 5 volunteers plough through two hours of content and ensure they are ready to volunteer once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted! Welcome to the team! Fridays Games Night with Interc...hange Outer East: "One of the best things about volunteering at IOE is our vollie culture! Friday night had us playing traditional camp games such as Mafia, Nine Squares and the Party Game all over Zoom. These games have been around for as long as IOE has, with volunteers around who have solved the tricks and patterns and others on the journey there, volunteer games are the best way to wind down and get to know your peers!" Volunteer now at your closest Interchange agency and enjoy meeting new people and making a positive impact on your community. https://www.interchange.org.au/volunteers/volunteer-enquiry/

12.01.2022 Thank you ABC iView! 11.01.2022 So much uncertainty right now in Victoria makes it hard to know what we're meant to be doing. It's difficult to be self-distancing and isolating when needed at the moment, but remember we are doing it for the greater good to #stopthespread! Victoria thanks you!

09.01.2022 A beautiful story from Gateways Support Services - one of our Interchange Member Agencies: "As we were getting ready to pack up for the evening, one of the participants (Sam) said to me, 'I have drawn your portrait'... l was wearing a grey jumper with black patterns on it. The picture of my jumper was perfect in its detail. This brought me to tears - as it was my birthday the next day - Sam wrote on the picture 'to Dy from Sam'. Words can not say how much this picture meant t...o me, l will treasure this picture forever." Diana is one of Gateways many dedicated and passionate volunteers . Studying a Certificate IV in Disability work and currently completing her work placement with Gateways, she has been gaining valuable experience by participating in our weekly recreation activities, whilst being well supported by our wonderful staff. Diana says she is learning bucket-loads and has created some unforgettable memories! These include but are not limited to: - a new curfew from 8pm - 5am - staying within 5km of your home for purposes of shopping or exercise - (where possible) shopping should only be done by one member of the household per day... Together we will get through this tough time. Be kind to yourselves and each other, and make sure you are looking after your mental health by spending time outside each day. We'll get there, Victoria!

06.01.2022 During National Volunteer Week, a great article about the amazing work Interchange Illawarra are doing during this period of social distancing and isolation. Interchange Illawarra teamed up with a local cafe, to deliver boxes of sausage rolls, cupcakes and scones to registered families in the area as part of the Parent & Carer Well-being Program. The families then took part in a group "High Tea" via Zoom - providing the families an opportunity to connect with each other ev...en while in their own homes! Well done to the staff at Interchange Illawarra for providing families with such a fun (and safe) way to create connections and keep connections alive during COVID-19. Read their story here: https://bit.ly/2WNAin3

05.01.2022 Another wonderful story of online connection - this time with our Carers. Moira, an Interchange agency based in Scoresby, are running virtual art groups for carers on Fridays at 11am-12pm until June 5th at this stage. These sessions are facilitated by a qualified Art Therapist who gives participants the opportunity to reflect on and share their experiences while representing these experiences through the creation of a piece of art. Not good at art?... Dont worry! The benefits lie in the process not the art itself. The images show some of the amazing artwork created in one of the sessions. Each week is a different activity and theme and gives carers an opportunity to attend when they can. Participants stated "I have attended the MOIRA art group previously and was a little hesitant to try it online but it ended up being a great opportunity to reflect, connect and take some time out I have found this period of isolation very challenging. Thank you for continuing to support the Mental Health of Carers it means the World to us!!!! To find out more please email [email protected]

05.01.2022 Everyone is unique and has their own traits, looks, language, skills, etc. There is no 'normal'. Volunteer with us to celebrate all things individual! https://www.interchange.org.au/volunteers/volunteer-enquiry/
