25.01.2022 Barna research - young adults faith is more likely to be resilient when they belong.

24.01.2022 Registrations Are Open....Numbers face to face are limited, Don't miss out

24.01.2022 Daron has a soap box moment. Today was the annual orange picking day. Beautiful large Washington navels. The kids look forward to it every year. The cousin...s along with my wife’s brother and father all turned up and we spent a few hours filling buckets, bags and tubs with them. We do it every year. They were bigger this year. Despite the harsh and cruel drought, the trees bore well and this years fruit is juicer and sweeter than ever. The younger cousins were sent up the trees to pick at the edges whilst those of us who were older climbed ladders and picked underneath. Generations working together for a cause.. each with a job to do communicating belonging, identity and Intergenerational togetherness. We also raided my veggie patch. I told the kids to help themselves to the radishes, snow peas and other bits and pieces. The strawberry guava was found to have fruit on it once again and so this too was raided. A moment of ‘deep time’ as Eugene Peterson puts it was experienced by all... even if the younger members of the extended family don’t quite realise it yet....one day they will. Rich Intergenerational identity and values are passed on like the blood that flows through their veins when we connect and intergenerate together across the seasons, years and decades. You see these orange trees were planted by generations of Pascoe forebears. Some of the trees are 100 years old. One of the navel trees travelled from Sunraysia Nurseries just after Lisa and I first met and was planted in the Pascoe fruit tree collection some 27 years ago. generations come and generations go but there is something sacred and ethereal in this annual orange pick and the collection of fruit trees planted over the years on this property. The deep roots that go down and the abundance of fruit produced is celebrated and consumed by the entire family in jams, juices, pies and cakes. Lisa and I are just the current custodians of these trees. Each Pascoe generation has planted for a future they did not quite know what or envisaged but they planted for the future anyway knowing that the blessings would be passed on.... each generation having a quiet confidence in the generations to come. This long-range perspectivewhich Eugene Peterson describes as deep time is what happens when generations consider and respect those who have come before them and those who are to come after, even those not yet born. It is in this deep Intergenerational time that 100 year old identities are established and take root in 10, 12 and 14 year old lives and that is something that I want for my children, my relatives children and the children in my sphere of influence. Eugene Peterson says that if we are going to learn a life of holiness in the mess of history, we are going to have to prepare for something intergenerational and think in centuries. The Pascoe family has done that. This was not just the annual orange pick. It was much more than that deep spiritual roots go down... value branches are strengthened as they intertwine and the fruits are guaranteed for generations to come when we Intergenerate together. Psalm 78 I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us. We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done. Daron gets off his soapbox and plants a tree.

23.01.2022 Putting our money where our mouth is matters. Moving from an abstract idea that is valued to a practical engagement that is valuable matters. And yes, it will cost us something. Anytime we shift resources from one place to another be it time and energy or money and materials, there will be a cost. But that is what makes something valuable. It’s not the value that placed on it in word but the amount we are actually willing to pay for that thing.

23.01.2022 What keeps Trevecca Okholm, author of Grandparenting Effect, up at night when it comes to intergenerational ministry? "Since the 1990s, I, along with a lot of o...ther church educators, have been losing sleep while trying to dream up new ways to bring generations back together again. We are closer now than we have been for the last half century; however, we are still only scratching the surface. ..." 23.01.2022 During our four years of research, we paid special attention to how an intentional investment in young people affected the overall congregation. When we analyzed quantitative data alongside lived experience in the churches we visited, we discovered that young people tend to add more to congregations. More service. More passion. More innovation. More overall health. Yes, even more money, in particular as older adults get inspired by the overall more young people bring.

19.01.2022 Please help my good friend Tammy out with her research.

19.01.2022 "If we could develop a mindset that says we learn to love God best by loving other people, young and old, and that we cannot love God unless we love those around us, we would be barring the doors to prevent the children around us "leaving after Sabbath School." We would shout down anyone who suggested the teenagers needed to clear off to their own room. We would put on sack cloth and ashes and beat our heads against the wall when our elderly people decided to attend only th...e 8am service. We would be terrified of committing the sin of idolatry if the only people in our worship service was similar to us in age (let alone outlook, faith development, theology, intellect, social outlook and colour) - terrified that we would be led towards making God in our own image and worshipping what is safe and familiar and controllable, rather than risky, unpredictable and 'other'." 18.01.2022 "At most ministry to children and adolescents is considered a "limb" of the church when it should be the "lungs" that breathe new life into the intergenerational congregation of believers" (Baxter, Together, 2010)

12.01.2022 As you know the area of Intergenerational Ministry still requires deeper research and study so it’s voice may play a larger part in transformational change in the Church. We can’t help believe that this season is a pivotal time to consider what we mean when we say Church? We are inviting you to be part of a survey as part of a Doctorate Study by Tammy Tolman (a member of the Intergenerate team) in the area of Intergenerational Ministry. The survey will take about 25 minut...es and your answers will be anonymous with an option to participate in further stages of this research if you choose to. We are also happy to share the results with you if you are interested. We would appreciate your involvement and also ask you to share this survey. The wider and more comprehensive spread of ages, denominations and countries fill it out, the more comprehensive the data/results will be. We are particularly interested in surveying all forms of Churches. We know that many of you are already on the Intergenerational journey, but we would love to hear from those who do Church in a more multi-generational approach. This will mean we can have real data about the differences and strengths across the various approaches to being the church. We would be grateful for your participation. God bless you in all you do for Him. Intergenerate Australia Team. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KYKXNR9

06.01.2022 I was preaching an Intergenerational sermon at a church. Towards the end of the sermon I made a sheep out of Balloons and told the story of Cecil the lost shee...p...It truly was an awesome intergenerational moment. I was building to the climax where the shepherd is searching and he hears a..... just then a small newborn baby in the congregation leat out a loud screaming bleat maaaaaaaaaa.... it was perfect, right on cue and I said "yes" "just like that" The congregation laughed and the mother knew that her and her baby are a special part of this congregation! If I don’t hear a baby crying when I preach then I know the church is dying Children are indeed a symbol of the kingdom now when they are present in the centre of our worship. I drove home knowing that the kingdom of heaven was truly present at that church on that day.

03.01.2022 Intergenerational worship has so much going for it .. Just been talking to a friend whose church has moved towards an Intergenerational all inclusive family chu...rch. Today they had a good group in attendance and over half of those were children. The numbers keep increasing week by week. They are on such a high after another awesome Intergenerational experience. A few things to celebrate *everyone belongs... no matter who you are or what is happening in your life you are always welcome in this extended family. * Families with special needs children are turning up to this worship service who would not normally turn up to a traditional worship service because it is ok for kids to bid a little outside the norm in Intergenerational settings. *. Numbers are growing because everyone fells like they belong and are made to feel welcome. * Some are willing to give church a try once again after not going for ages because Intergenerational connections and worship appeals to everyone. * When you listen to todays generation, and meet them where they are at, there is something sacred in those Intergenerational moments. * Even those who are unchurched feel welcome to attend in this type of worship service. * There is no need to entertain or overlook the bored because no one is bored in these types of Intergenerational services *when we prioritise children and families everywhere then everyone feels prioritised * There is a health and vitality here because of the mormentum that Intergenerational connections bring. Watch this space... Intergenerational connections and worship really does work and God is moving in this space.
