25.01.2022 COLLEGE PROFILE #5: FENNER WHAT’S YOUR FENNER ARTS HOROSCOPE FOR THE DAY? Those with the sign of Susan in their stars tend to make strong leaders. They should consider roles such as IAC President and Arts Daddy Supreme. Susans can often be found studying English or designing an Olympic-level training regime for Theatresports athletes. When SIC is in conjunction with ISO, those born under the sign of Susan should beware viruses bearing crowns lest their plans for the year be ...severely disrupted. However, when put to the test, Susans are equipped with enough wit and dedication to the arts to triumph triumphantly. Did someone say BNOC? Those who were born under the sign of Josh may find themselves waking up every morning with an irresistible urge to wear a large thrifted jacket and straight leg jeans. Fear not, though you may unfortunately have a knack for a brass instrument, your weird sense of humour and fluffy hair will still make you friends. You are brave- you’re unafraid to avoid being a hack even when everyone else around around you is, though you may want to lay off on starting clubs if you want any free time. Indulge in self care today- drink copious amounts of tea, finally buy that beanbag that’s been on your mind for a year, or spend five hours staring at The Great Wave of Kanagawa. If you were born under the sign of Phoenix, you are putting the hack back in I(h)AC(k). Phonemixes occasionally enjoy studying history and always enjoy chronically overcommitting to arts events. For those with Pneumothorax in their rising sign, I regret to inform you that you may soon fall prey to becoming a debater (as well as a public speaker, theatresportsperson, creative writer and artist). You should become artistic director for IAC. When Thermomix is in retrograde, stay away from the hair dye and browsing Dangerfield when there is a sale. Just trust me. Those born under the star of Jacqui often struggle with feelings of spiritual lockdown. While your friends might say you seem socially distanced, remember that the distance is purely physical and you’re always here in our hearts Jacquis are chronic overachievers, frequently found studying Law/PPE, participating in spelling bees or running for exec positions on IAC. When Jacqui is in retrograde you’ll find yourself craving dark chocolate and live musicals. Resist the temptation to buy tickets to Hamilton, and go on a long walk with a friend instead.

22.01.2022 It's election season! Have your say on ANUSA here www.voteanusa.com We have two wonderful arts reps Grace King and Phoenix O'Neill running for Gen Rep this year. Go check out their policies and happy voting!

21.01.2022 COLLEGE PROFILE #6: GRIFFIN Just because we don’t live on campus, doesn’t mean we’re not a real hall MOM! Known within the Griffin community as #ArtsGang, this merry bunch of misfits have been reeking havoc in Griffin all year.... First off the rank we have first year rep, Nicola ‘shitty photoshop’ Gordon. Having spent 0 of her hours since her election in Canberra, she’s been flying the Griffin arts flag all the way from Adelaide. Though she’s never actually witnessed an in person IAC event, she compensates for it with her passion for all things arts. Even if she does sometimes have to ask ‘what’s a BNO’, she’ll never turn down a good scribblio. Could you guess she’s a Gryffindor? And though chess might confuse her, she’s slowly being converted to the dark side. And she’s keen to be back on IAC next year as a returning Griffin arts rep! Next up we have James ‘Sphygmomanometer’ Champion. His love for spelling bee and all it’s silly words knows no bound. With the technical debating knowledge useful in almost no other context, James has already helped to organise IAC debating this year. With zoom backgrounds for every occasion, James manages to overcompensate for being the only male in a portfolio of SWOGS (strong women of Griffin). And boy can James hold a harmony, 2021 choir better watch out. Flying the Ravenclaw banner, James’ sometimes quiet demeanour only makes his quick quips even funnier. Another strong supporter of chess! Third the golden princess we have our very own Arabella ‘Do you know I did IB’ Young. Does BNOC stand for BNO coordinator because she’s got both notches in her belt. And boy can she belt a tune. Don’t start her on bullet journals, she could talk for days but her big smile and constant energy brings a buzz to the Griffin arts team. Would she prefer to be an IB coach or an Arts rep? Who’s to say, but best be known if she could do both, she would. Having previously been part of ISO, she can tell you where the better organisation is at. But she is a Slytherin so take with that what you will. Does she know how to play chess, sort of. Will support chess for the shear meme of it, most definitely. And bringing up the rear the resident flower crown, yellow wearing nerd Ashy ‘did someone say chess’ Kinsella . She clearly hadn’t had enough of IAC in 2019 so has retuned for her second year, this year as the IAC Vice President. No one has managed to have a conversation about IAC chess with her and lived to tell the tale. Will she draw out an AGM for an hour long discussion about why chess is a valuable part of the arts shield, by god she will. A theatre kid at heart, 40 hours and choir are right up her ally. And what she lacks in skill she makes up for in enthusiasm! A through and through Hufflepuff she genuinely enjoys the IAC bylaws, and derives some kind of sick enjoyment by rewriting them in her spare time. Did we mention she likes chess? Big love Griffin 2020 ArtsGangTM

14.01.2022 - The ANU has made the decision to cancel all non-essential public and social events until the end of Semester 1 in order to control the spread of COVID-19. This means that we will not be running any of the events that we had planned for the rest of Semester 1. While this is sad for us and for those looking forward to these events, this decision is out of our hands. We respect the ANU’s decision for the sake of those immunocompromised members of the community t...o whom the virus could have serious detrimental effects. Big Night Out is our main event of the year and so we will endeavour to postpone, not cancel it. We cannot give a new date nor guarantee whether it will be able to run, but all three BNO directors are committed to trying to making it happen. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel Spelling Bee and 40 Hours of Film this year. Dance Night may be postponed to Semester 2, but once again this is by no means a guarantee. This year will involve a lot of reshuffling of events. Depending on the length of the ban, some Semester 2 events will likely also be affected. We are working on converting some of our events to a completely online format, so that we can still enjoy the arts in Semester 1. If we decide to run an online arts event this semester, you will hear it from your arts reps and on this page. This is a very new situation and we are navigating it as best as we can. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via this page or through our e-mail at [email protected]. Thanks for your understanding and please stay safe. IAC 2020

13.01.2022 IAC is back and ready to take on Semester Two in the most *COVID compliant* way yet. Get ready for art that's good for your heart. Fur all the gud spelers on campus, Spelling Bee is the event for you. Each college will pick one titan of spelling to go head to head for the most lucrative victory of the year. Conducted over Zoom, no matter where you are- iridocyclitis. ... Aspiring golden globe nominees fret no longer! 40 Hours of Film is going ahead stronger than ever. With some special social distancing rules, director's creativity will be put to the test - are you up for the challenge? While there may not be an impromptu round this year, public speakers can still pour their hearts out in the prepared prompt round. Simply submit an unedited take of your speech to your arts reps and watch as the (virtual) applause rolls in. For the people that picked up a niche skill in iso- this one is for you. IAC is excited to run their very first virtual exhibition which will feature the work of all our proud artists at ANU. All pieces will be judged online so keep that in mind in the creation of your masterpieces! - Due at end of teaching break with an exciting prompt to be released a month prior, this exciting one-off composition competition is guaranteed to get your creative juices flowing! As this competition does not count towards the Interhall Arts Shield, anyone (ressie or not!) can enter! For the thrill of being the victor of this inaugural competition- enter, enter, enter! Stay tuned for more information to come...

08.01.2022 COLLEGE PROFILE #8: WRIGHT Ed Cahill can call himself Arts Officer about as comfortably as you can call 2020 a year. You'll find him at any hour of the day in his residence on the far-back left table in the hive (Wright's dining hall), purportedly studying but probably just watching ten year-old baseball highlights. Otherwise you'll likely catch him with his faced buried in some book or struggling profusely to contribute in social situations. Buzz buzz! Georgie McLean is fr...om the sunny mediocre place of Brisbane which is kind of interesting to hear about for someone not from Sydney. Says a lot of savage comments and isn’t afraid to say it how it is. Has pre’s in her room every week, making her strobe lights and good view from floor 7; her only good personality trait. Most people also do not know she is first year arts rep, which shows how involved she is in the community. 2020 Arts rep is Nicole "overcommitted" Lehmann. Having done BNO, Dance Night and Choir last year, she was ready for a jam-packed IAC calendar and was wildly disappointed with this year's developments. She still managed to fill up her schedule though, amongst constantly needing to clean the mess in her room and telling people she's on her way down to the dining hall before turning up 30 minutes later.

02.01.2022 COLLEGE PROFILE #8: BURGMANN Poppy Thomson: You are intimidated by her. She has released an EP. Have you? I thought not. She also does ceramics as a university subject. As if Stevie Nicks grew up in Botany, Sydney with orange hair. She is warm and glowing but will definitely beat you in a fight. Kieran Knox: The love child of Sylvia Plath, Salvador Dali and that barista in Braddon who tells you they grow their own coffee beans. Apparently grew up in Indonesia? Only gained Art...s Rep status in his third year, but we rate him for it. Tells many stories, I hope they’re true. He is the true artist of the team and brings brightness into our lives. And we are better for it. Isobel Kuo: Lacking the practical deficiencies of the other three. Supposed to be artsy but hasn’t done an arts event this year? IAC communications officer, communicates with me. Hey Angel! - memorable quote. Loves hugs and being new Burg President. Despite stereotypes, she is the only Burg Arts team member who studies law. Has massive Jacinda Ardern energy and has brought strength and resilience to this year. Will: Participates in every arts event he can whether we want him or not. Will rock an open mic despite singing flatter than Bob Dylan. Serial ukulele owner. Looks super artsy but really just has long hair... Has a weakness for 80s synths. In all seriousness, he is the most enthusiastic person ever and gives off major George Harrison vibes. His spirit animal is definitely a turtle.
