06.01.2022 Polished plaster creates a smooth, continuous, refined and elegant look. Finishing the hallways and stairwells in polished plaster with curves and a spectacular... curved stepped ceiling not only gives a sense of spaciousness, reflecting soft and gentle light but turns the space into a live-in sculpture. 02.01.2022 5 WEEK MINI HOME MAKEOVER CHALLENGE By @Mel Sherwell - Soul Shapes - Lifestyle Interiors https://www.facebook.com/InteriorDesignShift/... WEEK 5 - CREATE A SACRED SPACE Hey Supa Mummas, Ok ladies its the last week of our mini home makeover challenge and I thought this week I want to focus on something that Im sure we all need + something we can all easily achieve. Most of us are possibly finding less and less alone time with the fam nicely invading every minute of our day, isnt it lovely!!! (BIG CHEESY SMILE) I mean, who needs thinking time anyway! So, as much as Im sure your all-loving being home with the fam, (mostly I am too) I think we can all admit that sometimes we just need a moment to PAUSE!.............................. It is SO important to take that time to recharge + reset so that we can be the best Mummas possible! It is not selfish to make time for yourself! When you give to yourself you're giving to everyone in your family. As they say, fill your cup first! So, this week, I want to invite you to participate in creating either a sacred space or shelfie! WHAT IS A SACRED SPACE OR SACRED SHELFIE? A sacred space or a sacred shelfie is either a designated space in a room (or a whole room) or a shelf decorated and styled with sacred items that support and encourage a moment to pause, meditate & reflect or whatever you need to do to recharge and replenish yourself. If you are fortunate enough to be able to dedicate a whole room to yourself, you may wish to make this an area you practice yoga in also.Obviously, you will choose the best option for your own home. If you are limited for space, then a sacred shelfie is the sweetest way to create your own, out of the way, mini sacred space. If you do have a nice amount of space in your home, then consider creating your own personal sacred space. (Yes, a space just for YOU!!! Shock horror that you would give yourself such a gift!! :) THIS WEEKS CHALLENGE- CREATE A SACRED SPACE 1. Decide whether youre doing a whole room, a corner of a room, or a sacred shelfie. 2. Considerations to include in your Sacred Space; You absolutely must think deeply about the items you include. Only include items the evoke, deep personal associations, positive emotions and pieces that make you feel connected to yourself. Inclusion ideas: An altar or a small/low table or shelf. Style your altar or shelfie with precious items. If you have little space, install a shelf, use your bedside table, or a mantle to create a sacred shelfie in your bedroom or office. Crystals Source out crystals with healing properties that align with what your needing in your own life right now. If you dont know what you need, allow your intuition to guide your selection or do some research on the healing properties of crystals. Photos Include a photo or two that ignites a sense of love and protection. It could be your Nan, a friend, or even a writer or celebrity that you have great respect for. Ornaments Look around your home for any ornaments that you associate with happy memories gone by or people you love. It might be a Buddha stature, a wedding gift, feathers or maybe a shell you found at a beach. Whatever you choose, make sure it's special! Plant(s) Whether you pop a small one or your altar and around the room, plants have a deeply powerful effect on your ability to stop & reset ( I dont need to tell this to hills, people, do I? :) Obviously, plants help you connect to your roots and mother nature. They also improve the quality of the air we breath. Water If you have space, a non-daggy (if you can find one ) water fountain to help you connect with your emotions and the element of water. OR for a shelfie maybe a super spesh bowl filled with rose or rainwater. Candle - Safely include at least one candle to help create that ambiance and to help you connect to those fire elements in and around you. Sunlight/ Natural light Open the blinds, try to position your altar near a window to catch the suns rays. Sunlight is so healing for many obvious reasons but the light itself can elevate your energy, awareness, and ability to replenish. Incense / Sage/ Essential Oils - I like to clear the energy with sage prior to hanging out in my sacred space. Sage is a must to keep your space free from the chaotic energy that can trickle in from a busy family or even from our your own chaotic vibration (Sorry fam). Another must for me, I absolutely must light my fav incense. When I light my incense, its like a key I turn to get into a deep sense of peace & bliss! If youre not a fan of incense, then an electric diffuser with your favourite essential oil will also give you beautiful, non-smokey aromatherapy goodness. I Love and use both! Scent is so powerful! Wind chimes - If you can, place some wind chimes near a window or outside the window of the room. Capturing the sound of the elements through wind chimes is deeply relaxing & hypnotizing. II have found usually the people who hate wind chimes are the ones who need to learn to pause the MOST, just a random observation (lol). Affirmation cards I love to have a quick shuffle of some affirmation cards, pick one out, then head back into my day with a beautiful new perspective. I do this after meditating when my mind is relaxed and open to receive. Books - I also love to have my favourite, inspirational books around. Sometimes I will just pick one up, flick open a page, and be blown away by a powerful message I really needed to read! Meditation cushion/ Yoga Mat Last but not least, get yourself a floor cushion to prop in front of your altar. This is where you will be enticed to go sit for even just a few minutes each day. If you practice (or want to try ) yoga and have space, then absolutely please include your yoga mat and enjoy your daily practice with all the beautiful soulful vibes you have created! 3. Make sure you style the space or shelf in a way that is visually pleasing, well-spaced out, and not chaotic. The layout and positioning are just as important as the objects. Edit your items so that the space evokes a deep inner connection to love and peace. If an object was given to you by someone you no longer like, DO NOT INCLUDE! Only super positive associations allowed! 4. Choose your items in colours that soothe and calm. Avoid Red as this is a heavily stimulating colour and does not really support winding down, relaxing and pausing. For more info on colour therapy, you can check out my blog here - https://www.soulshapes.com.au//colour-ther/interior-design 5. The next thing to do once you have created your Sacred Space is to make time to sit in your sacred space. I personally love to get up half an hour before the kids, make a cuppa, light my candle +incense, pop on some chilled tunes and just PAUSE. I take at least 5 10 mins to stop, meditate, stretch, and really just prepare my mind and soul for the day ahead. I sometimes will take another seat on my cushion at the end of the day. This is such a great way to breathe the day away, reset and get centered for a good nights sleep. So thats all form me! I hope you decide to have a go and give yourself this lovely, life-changing gift! I promise you will absolutely love the extra chill time and will soon notice yourself feeling super Zen! Whether you have tried meditation or not, this is something super easy that anyone can do on any budget. Take Care Mel x
