20.01.2022 Boots and All | Tonight at 8pm on ABC Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council (BRMC) and McDonald's Ballarat City FC were delighted this month to welcome Craig Foster as Patron and Hakeem Al-Araibi as invited special guest of Interkultura October 2019. They both inspired our 350 Triple D dinner guests and 150 young players and communities of refugee backgrounds. Now you can hear them again tonight on Australian Story. Craig Foster and Football Victoria’s Hakeem Al-Araibi reveal the full story of the extraordinary #SaveHakeem campaign to rescue Hakeem from prison in Thailand, and how close it came to disaster.

20.01.2022 Interkultura had some great but invisible technical advice from our Tournament Working Group in putting together the Tournament roster and games. Thank you Lauren Riddel and Elisabeth Bridson in the lead up and for coordination on the day. Thank you James Robinson from Ballarat City FC for sharing his experience and taking meticulous attention to the detail when putting together a tournament roster and draw that ran like clockwork (and accommodated both the needs of our trave...llers and a few minor starting glitches). Much appreciated by all! #Interkultura

17.01.2022 Football’s place as the number one club-based participation sport in Australia has been confirmed, with more than 330,000 players across Victoria alone. The lat...est AusPlay survey by Sport Australia revealed that in the year to June 2019, 1,853,600 people played football in Australia comprising 1,084,200 adults (15+) and 769,400 children (0-14). Of those, 333,187 were from Victoria, comprising 233,536 adults and 99,651 children. 16.01.2022 I hope those who watched enjoyed @AustralianStory It was to thank Australia and to explain the enormity of what you achieved, and how. Your voice was absolutel...y vital and without it, nothing was possible. ‘Fighting for Hakeem’ acknowledges those who contributed from all around the world. Too many to mention here. Amazing Australians, New Yorkers, Thais, footballers everywhere. It’s important to give them credit and tell their story just as we must give @refugees a face, tell theirs. They’re human beings like us. No difference and they deserve to be treated as such. @HachetteAus @booktopiabooks @ReadingsBooks @Gleebooks See more

11.01.2022 Football has a duty to advocate for appropriate treatment of refugees, as multiculturalism is a part of our DNA. We have African, Afghani, Kurd, Iranian, Sudane...se, Syrian clubs in this country, making a life for their families in the same way as the Greek, Croatian, Italian, Serb, Maltese etc did so many decades ago. This is something that legend Paul Wade understands, well done Wadey Two of our best known people, Les Murray and Frank Lowy were refugees. In football, we compete against these countries on the field of play and call them friends. This should not change when people flee persecution. We are all the same. Everyone has human rights to be treated humanely. Stand up for refugees, they’re people, like you and I Refugee Ball 2019, Sydney @starttsnsw #AllRefugeesareHakeem We stand up for one, we should stand up for all.

03.01.2022 Our Interkultura football championship medallions feature a design from the 2018 BCFC Diversity Jersey. The jersey was designed by talented, local youth footballer and celebrated student artist of Togolese/Ghanaian heritage, Xagai Douhadji. Xagai was commissioned by McDonald's Ballarat City FC in conjunction with Regional Arts Victoria to create the Diversity Jersey for 2018 Refugee Week celebrations. He realised the project would be the perfect opportunity to combine his pas...sions for drawing and football. Xagai also appreciated the project was the perfect way to celebrate his own heritage within the various cultures that richly contribute to the club. The design incorporates African cultural symbols that emphasise the importance of community unity and inclusiveness. #Interkultura
