23.01.2022 Ground breaking medicine that prevents disease, heals chronic illness, promotes longevity and improved quality of life. it’s called REAL FOOD, it’s hard to come by but you can still find it at growers market and in gardens. Organic and wild grown foods are higher in photochemicals, if you want that extra medicine. Step 1. Avoid foods in packets... Step 2. If it’s in a packet read through ingredients Step 3. If it contains preservatives, gums, numbers, various names for sugars, colours and more - put it down, walk away and buy a carrot See more

22.01.2022 Want to get your metabolism healthy and thriving? Go to bed before 10pm. I’m not even a little bit joking about this one. Seriously, go to bed! Nothing good happens after 10.30pm, right? To have a healthy and strong metabolism we need to have enough energy to cope with the body’s stressors. When you don’t get enough quality sleep your metabolism slows down to compensate for the increased stress caused by little sleep. ... So, good night Trying to heal on minimal sleep is like trying to start a fire in a flood.

21.01.2022 Let me tell you a little bit about myself Recently I turned 27 and this most recent trip around the sun feel like I am grounding more and more into myself. So to celebrate the new digits next to my age, let’s share some super personal information. I grew up in a mud brick house in a place called Bobin. We lived on 9 acres right on a creek and I spent most of my childhood swimming in there. ... I left my family home when I was 16 to move to Sydney. My sister and her now husband moved to Mosman so that I could attend Mosman High School. This is when I really learnt the definition of Social Anxiety (small town gal in the big smoke). Mosman High gave me life long friends and permission to be wacky! My whole childhood and teenage years I had IBS and was relieved to be diagnosed with Insulin Resistance and PCOS at age 16 because it started my journey to becoming a nutritionist and not feeling like cr*p all the time. I’m not very organised, I’m VERY last minute! I’m suppose to be a Virgo but I’m too messy to qualify! I LOVE working as a Nutritionist. When I am working one on one with someone or teaching a workshop this is when I’m in my FLOW. I truly feel this is what I’m meant to be doing and I am forever grateful that I get to do this!! Thanks for sticking with me, for your support and for allowing me to share my passion. What do you think? Wanna know more random facts about me? Xx

20.01.2022 Here I am - messy hair and no makeup! It’s been a very interesting transition that I feel like has happen very slowly for me but I realise many of you are still playing catch up. I’m showing up to honestly share with you where I am and where I am going. Restrictive diets and long term dietary exclusions don’t work. They work short term, they may be working for you but I haven’t seen them work long term for myself or my clients. ... I have dedicated myself to learning true nutrition so that you and I can feel well, long term! If you are tired of feeling unwell, get in touch. Learn that you aren’t the problem. I’m not going to pretend these changes are easy but they’re a lot more enjoyable and satisfying And a huge thank you to all that are bravely sharing information that contradicts the mainstream for the sake of health. I am so grateful for your efforts

20.01.2022 Ever feel sick and bloated after eating a salad?? Wanna know why this is? Unfortunately we don’t all have strong and healthy digestive tracts. Thanks to loads of stressors and toxins in our day to day lives. ... Consequently it’s not uncommon for us to experience reflux, bloating, constipation or diarrhoea even after eating a food that would be considered healthy, like a salad. Here are some reasons why raw salads can make you bloated. If you have dysbiosis, which is an imbalance in beneficial bacteria and an overgrowth of non-beneficial bacteria, the fibre can feed the overgrowth. Raw veggies are rich in variety of fibres that feed bacteria in the gut. Non beneficial bacteria release endotoxins and excess gas when they are fed well. insufficient stomach acid. The stomach needs to be an acidic pH to ensure foods are broken down into chains of nutrients. If you have low stomach acid, due to stress (seeing a common thread), eating too fast and nutritional deficiencies, food won’t be digested quickly and instead will start to ferment in your stomach. Raw veggies contain Anti-Nutrient. Anti nutrients like oxalates naturally exist on veggies like spinach and kale. When consumed raw the oxalates are really hard to digest and sit on digestive enzyme receptors sites. This also causes symptoms of gas and bloating. How to make a raw salad more digestible. Soak the sliced raw veggie in Apple Cider Vinegar. Cook the vegetables instead of having them raw. Roasting veggies generally makes them tastier and heaps easier to digest. Imagine trying to eat raw potato, yuck! Also pairing the veggies with Saturated fat like butter, lard or coconut oil helps make the fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin K accessible to the body. Some extra hot tips for bloated bellies - don’t have raw onion as the sugar chains in it are super hard on the gut. Avoid beans and lentils especially straight out of a can! Never have raw broccoli or cauliflower.

19.01.2022 I read this quote many years ago and I felt a gentle weight fall off my shoulders. I have spent at least 10 years of my life scared of loving or caring for another for fear of losing them. I am going to grieve, I am going to experience loss but what makes it all worth it is love! The changing seasons reminds me that we are coming up to the 11th anniversary of my fathers death. A sudden life shattering moment that should have made the world stop... but it didn’t. Just this w...eekend we experienced intense, quick loss! When life goes from okay to almost unbearable. You replay moments over and over again, baffled at how suddenly life changes. Grief always feels the same to me, regardless of what kind of grief it is. We can grieve those that are still alive, experiences we can’t have, versions of ourselves that no longer exist... Sometimes we are told to turn negatives into positives. Or to find the message or meaning in pain. I feel it’s important to stay in your grief, to feel it! To not try and put on a happy face and to definitely forgive yourself for needing time, space and healing. Then a little bit at a time you start to feel other feelings; joy, love and excitement for the future. It’s important to learn to feel these without guilt. Because life does go on and love feels amazing

17.01.2022 Stop giving foods moral codes. Food is food. You are not bad if you eat a food you have decided is bad. Same as you are not good if you eat a food that is labelled good. Food is so many things! It is:... Nourishing Delicious Energising Social Cultural Emotional Pleasure It’s is not: A measurement of whether you are good or bad. Or if you have done a good or bad thing. My hot tips to survive Easter. 1. Eat Food 2. Be kind to yourself and others But seriously, if you are mostly eating balanced meals regularly then you can definitely trust your body to crave and eat what it needs. Have a beautiful weekend

15.01.2022 My clinic hours have changed! Now available for consultations on Fridays What to expect from a consultation with me An initial is 1.5 hrs.... What’s involved: Full health assessment and dietary history Time for you to share about YOU Accessible information on what’s happening in your body and how food influences this A good laugh at my awkward banter Understanding emotional and environmental influences on your food choices Dietary evaluation and individualised nutrition plan that is emailed to you Recommendation where necessary for nutritional supplementation Analysis and requests for further testing It’s not about quick fixes and fad diets. It’s sustainable changes to best support your mood, gut health, hormones and longevity! @forsteryogastudio

14.01.2022 This is what I mostly see in clinic and in myself! I never would have classified myself as an under eating. I thought I ate too much! Was always trying to reduce and avoid sugar! Would go longer than 4 hours without eating, start to lose concentration and get the shakes. The less I ate the more weight I gained, the more cravings I had and the worse my energy and mood were. But I kept looking for more complex reasons for these symptoms. And kept taking more and more supplement...s. Without the results I was promised by the nutrition science out there. Here’s the deal - we have a lot of stress to deal with constantly. And if we don’t eat enough, the body starts to break down and our health becomes compromised. If you don’t eat enough protein and carbs your body will start to eat your muscles and organs to make glucose to provide energy to your vital organs to keep you alive. This is called gluconeogenesis. Yes, lipolysis can happen- which is the breaking down of fat for energy - but this is only when the body is very very stressed and desperate. Your weight on the scales does not tell us if your losing muscle or fat. Comment below signs and symptoms of your body needing food that doesn’t feel like hunger. I’ll go first - I would get anxious before I would feel physically hungry. Now I feel physically hungry before I get anxious, so I eat and don’t get anxious!

12.01.2022 Hey, hey, hey we don’t have to be perfect but it is important to do our best. For healths sake can you make stock from scratch instead of buying it? Here are the common ingredients in commercial stocks: This is Massels Chicken stock which is cruelty free because it doesn’t contain chicken. Ingredients: Marine Salt, Corn Maltodextrin, Refined White Sugar, Yeast Extract, Natural Vegetable Flavours, Dehydrated Vegetables (Onion), Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Turmeric Ground, Chil...li. And here is Campbell’s beef stock ingredients: Beef Stock (98%) (Water, Beef, Carrot, Celery, Cabbage, Onion, Parsley, Pepper), Salt, Yeast Extract, Sugar, Glucose, Food Colour (Caramel I), Cloves. And this is the ingredient in my homemade stock: Organic bones Filtered water Veggies Apple Cider Vinegar Salt and Pepper Herbs Tell me, what do you think of these ingredients? Are you aware of how harmful refined sugars are to your health? Thanks for watching my ramble, I hope I have inspired you to make broth/stock

11.01.2022 Most of us buy multivitamins because they are suppose to support our health. The label promises us stronger hair and clearer skin! And supplements are suppose to be good for us right? Unfortunately synthetic supplements can cause harm in the body. Synthetic vitamins are almost identical to natural vitamins, but they are not identical. Synthetic vitamins can block the body’s ability to assimilate and use essential nutrients in the body. ... Two examples: Vitamin C is essential, it’s a powerful antioxidant and helps support adrenal gland health. However, when you take it in the form of ASCORBIC ACID it blocks your body’s ability to use the organic form of vitamin C. This can cause all sorts of inflammatory responses. Vitamin A is amazing for eye health, skin health, immune support and hormones. However palmitate and beta-carotene are the main synthetic forms of Vitamin A found in multivitamins. These sit on Vitamin A (retinol) receptor sights causing toxicity of synthetic vitamin A and putting a lot of pressure on the Thyroid while it tries to convert these to the organic, useable form. Supplements don’t label where the vitamins are sourced from and it’s not just the supermarket supplements that are synthetic. Even some practitioner only companies use abundance of Synthetic supplements. My advise, seek a practitioner who understands all the ingredients in the supplements your taking. Don’t just buy supplements based on the health claims. This is something I definitely was not taught at uni, it’s something I have been looking into deeper and deeper recently. If you want to get to the root cause of your health, start asking questions and digging deeper. All my supplements on my shelf are being reshuffled to only contain whole food supplements that have the vitamin in it’s organic form. Other important vitamins to avoid: Folic Acid Iron Vitamin D3 Calcium

11.01.2022 BEETROOT KVASS! A nourishing fermented tonic made from beetroots. This savoury, salty-sweet drink is a good support for your liver. 09.01.2022 Food impacts mood. The way we feel and our attitude towards the world around us is influenced by the food we eat. We may experience anxiety and depression as the result of Nutritional deficiencies, inflammation from toxicities and even the types of micro-organisms that live in our gut. As a nutritionist I am particularly fascinated by the gut-brain connection and how much our mood can tell us about our gut health (and vice versa). Now of course, on R U OK? Day I am not sa...ying that ones mental health is solely influenced by Nutrition. Instead I am inviting the opportunity for us to view mental health from a holistic perspective. We are complex beings and so the medicine we seek to support us should take this into consideration. I highly recommend the Food & Mood Centre of Deakin University for more awesome info. In the mean time, check in are you okay? And if you’re currently not okay - that’s okay!!

01.01.2022 I CAN’T COOK! Something I hear in clinic every day. Well, guess what - you can! It’s just we have perfect photos of foods made by master chefs sprayed all over media, books and the internet! So often I don’t post pictures of my food on here because it rarely looks photogenic. I am definitely a nutritionist not a cook! I make food that nutritious and nourishing, rarely do I stick to a recipe and sometimes the flavour is less of a priority! ... But when I cook, I KNOW all the ingredients in my meal. I have made everything as digestible as possible (often too much apple cider vinegar!) and used the best ingredients I could access. Is it picture perfect? No! What’s your relationship with cooking? Do you stick to the same food because you’re afraid to ruin a meal? Do you stick to recipes? Do you eat out because you don’t like your own cooking? This dinner was a meal I threw together for a Facebook live video for @forsteryogastudio. It was very embarrassing to show of my mediocre cooking skills. But it was delicious to me and made my gut feel great

01.01.2022 HOLIDAY HOURS! I only have a couple of weeks in clinic left of 2020. 18th of December is my last day in clinic until next year. This year has been a particularly extraordinary year. I am so grateful for my new clinic room at @forsteryogastudio and to still be at Wingham Wellbeing. Thank you to all of your for your support both direct and indirect.
