19.01.2022 Douw does not accept the Australian Government’s argument, as the integration of West Papua into Indonesia in 1963 was not legitimate. He expresses his fears about the region’s future: Learning from East Timor, I am scared that a massacre will occur as the International community mount more pressure to the Indonesian government and military. http://www.wowmelanesia.com/thank-you-for-your/

Melbourne, 11 November 2011 The Hon Julia Gillard MP Prime Minister Parliament House Canberra ACT 2600 RE: PETITION on the Current Shooting Incidents in West Papua Dear Prime Minister Gillard, We, the undersigned of International Forum for West Papua would like to ask the government of Australia regarding the latest violations during the West Papuan Congress and Workers strike since September 15 against Freeport McMoran that is partnered with Rio Tinto in Grasberg area. The incidents have caused over 20 civilians dead in different areas, many arrested, wounded, tortured, and jailed. Catholic private properties had been destroyed by the Indonesian military. The Indonesian government has denied the people’s basic rights to freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and freedom of movement that has led to massive human right violations against West Papuan political and social groups. The INFO_WP demands the Labor Government of Australia to: Review the Lombok treaty that focuses on policy of against West Papuan separatism movement. End a bilateral military relationship with Indonesia, and stop providing the Australian financial and material aid for military training. Stop supporting Indonesian special autonomy law that only benefits the Indonesian government and its cronies. Stop legitimatizing the Indonesian government’s plan to speed up development in West Papua (UP2TP). Support the West Papuan demands for the third party mediation dialogue and the rights of self determination. We look forward to receiving your response. Yours Sincerely, Amatus Douw President
