22.01.2022 Vale Jim Salway It is with deep regret we note the passing of Mr Jim Salway of Glencraig Jerseys, Cobargo, NSW. Jim was very well known to people of All Breeds,... he is pictured here with just one of his many IDW Champions. Not only did Jim win many Champions at IDW, but many at both Sydney and Melbourne Royals. Indeed the Supreme Champion Dairy Cow All Breeds at Sydney Royal in 2005 with Glencraig Princes Interest was one of many highlights. Jim was awarded the Lex Bunn Achievement award at IDW in 2014. He judged at many leading shows including IDW, Sydney and Brisbane Royals. His devotion to the young dairy folk in his Bega Valley was nothing short of amazing, driving his truck to shows all over NSW and Victoria with at many times animals of others was just a reflection of the ‘Giving Man’ he was. To wife Madge and all the family may we send our deepest sympathy. RIP Jimmy. Brian Leslie DLS

21.01.2022 2021 Event Update While we’ve had to adjust to a new way of living over the past months, our planning for Australia’s International Dairy Week 2021 has commenced. However, with current COVID-19 restrictions in place, we are progressing slowly. We are respectful of the work that our government and health care workers are doing to keep us safe and we want to make sure that we can conduct International Dairy Week when it is legal, safe and feasible to do so for all of us exhi...bitors, sponsors, the dairy enthusiast, volunteers and general public. We appreciate you need to plan if the event is progressing so we will advise our decision about IDW 2021 by 28 September 2020. Of course, if we are able to make a decision regarding the 2021 event before then, we will let you know. Hold tight, look after each other and keep safe for now. 16.01.2022 Jersey Australia together with International Dairy Week and Global Impact Sale has started to distribute more than $100,000 raised to help farmers impacted by this summer’s fires. The distribution of funds from the IDW Bushfire Appeal is providing significant direct cash support to affected dairy farmers in the Cobargo and north east Victoria regions. With the generous support of the herd improvement industry, dairy farmers, dairy suppliers and those who purchased items fro...m the silent auction, cattle sales and made donations from across Australia and around the world, about $113,000 was raised to provide direct financial support to dairy farmers From this amount $50,000 has already been provided to Renee and Harley Salway. Renee’s husband and Harley’s father Patrick was tragically lost in the fires at Cobargo, alongside his father Robert. The balance of the funds is being distributed directly to 12 dairy farmers; six in the Cobargo region and six in north east Victoria Jersey Australia General Manager Glen Barrett said Jersey Australia was proud to get behind and support the appeal. The bushfire was a significant tragedy across the dairy farming community. The tragic death of Robert Salway, a long-time member of Jersey Australia with the well-known and highly regarded Wilgo Stud, and his son Patrick was devastating and felt across the Association, he said. We cannot thank all donors, buyers and supporters of the appeal enough. It certainly makes you swell with pride to see the dairy community come together to provide such amazing support when a lot of the industry has been challenged by long-term drought, water shortage and below par milk price. Director of IDW and Dairy Livestock Services Manager, Scott Lord said it was a pleasure to have the dairy community support the bushfire appeal conducted during International Dairy Week. The funds raised via the auctions as well as the many cash donations from Australia and overseas show that as an industry we care about our own, Mr Lord said. We are proud to be associated with such outstanding results and most importantly funds are getting to those in need in a timely fashion. On behalf of International Dairy Week, I sincerely thank all involved in this magnificent appeal. 14.01.2022 Our second Semex Holstein Australia All-Australian People's Choice is Avonlea Windbrook Lulu 2nd IMP-ET, pictured here at IDW in 2018 (main pic - led by Marty H...ore) and 2019 (led by Steve Hore). Purchased by Elmar Holsteins Australia and RJ & LE Blackburn from Avonlea Holsteins at IDW as a 10 month old, she was IDW Reserve Intermediate Champion in 2015 - the same year she won the 2 year old in milk (30 months & over) All-Australian Photographic Competition. We really liked the shape of her as a calf and her strong Canadian cow family, says Elmar’s Steve Hore. We’ve shown her a lot and she’s now back pregnant again. Her two year old daughter by Crush was second 2 year old in milk at IDW this year, and she’s got some other Archrival daughters in milk. Ray Blackburn says: She’s gone on to develop incredibly well. I’d actually given up dairying when we purchased her, but was keen to focus on developing strong type animals. I’d known Steve a long time and we decided to go into it together. She’s certainly achieved what we had hoped, and is continuing to develop. A crowd favourite, Avonlea Windbrook Lulu 2nd attracted just over 60% of the votes this week. 12.01.2022 12 September, 2020 CANCELLATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAIRY WEEK 2021 It is with deep regret that we announce that Australia’s International Dairy Week 2021, due to be held from 17th to 21st January, will not be going ahead. For many of you this news will be expected, but after 30 years it is still a hard call to make. Although we sincerely hoped we could run IDW 2021, we find with current restrictions we really have no choice. We know it is the right decision and that we need t...o make some sacrifices to get through the current circumstances. In making the decision to cancel the event IDW have of course been acting within all Victorian and Federal Government instructions to keep us all safe from COVID-19. With the uncertainty of borders re-opening, the slow and gradual reopening of Victoria and many economic challenges in providing a COVID safe event we recognise the many challenges in trying to set up and run the week in a safe and responsible manner. We cannot, hand on heart, put in place and meet all necessary requirements so the responsible decision to make, for all of us involved, is to cancel IDW 2021. We realise this will impact many, particularly the Tatura community. Over 30 years IDW has experienced a fair bit and we have worked through many moments. When we come together in January we are more than a cow show and Dairy extravaganza, we are a community. We spend the week together enjoying each others’ companionship, we are networking, learning about great products, watching great cows, enjoying the strawberries and icecream, complaining about the heat and ultimately joining in the celebrations when hard work and perseverance is rewarded. We are committed to IDW 2022 and will be working with our many sponsors, exhibitors and community volunteer groups to have us all back together again and enjoy what has become a regular annual event in our lives. The spirit of IDW will continue. I encourage you all to take the necessary steps to keep you and your loved ones safe and healthy. 09.01.2022 Here is the catalogue for "TOMARGO RECLUSE " - SELECT TYPE & PRODUCTION SALE - being held on Friday 30th October at 10:30 AM ON FARM RAWSONVILLE BRIDGE RD , ...DUBBO , NSW 253 of the Very Best will sell - what an opportunity! A large offering of absolutely fantastic young cows in full milk with simply wonderful udders. Selling will be 150 young cows on their first lactation along with the balance mainly on their second. As you would expect they are the typical ‘Tomargo Recluse’ dairylike kind milking extremely well as you can see on study of this catalogue. We will sell 14 heifers recently classified VG with loads on GP 84 along with many young cows recently scored VG and two on Excellent. Cows sell with records to 12,654 litres 399 kgs protein and 442 kgs fat. I wish to point out that Tomargo Recluse herd numbers peaked at 1,200 this past year and yet the BMCC is consistently under 100. 04.01.2022 It is with much sadness and great respect that we note the passing of Neville (Nifty) McDonald, Sunshine Farm Jerseys Stud of Kyabram. So well known for his Jer...seys that enjoyed tremendous success throughout Northern Victorian shows over many years since moving down from Northern NSW some 40 years ago, he is pictured with Sunshine Farm Cherry 133 after winning her 4th Inter Breed Champion in as many weeks late last year, also pictured is his wonderful cow Sunshine Farm Dorothy 8, EX 94 who won a host of Champions both Breed and All Breeds throughout the 90’s. Neville bred many great Jerseys, those wonderful ET full sisters by Katandra Incomparable from the Lovely family that all classified EX and produced high yields, the Championship winning Belles Jade’s and the many time Beed and All Breeds Champions by Astound will be fondly remembered. Neville was a very strong Community minded man being much involved in the Kyabram Show, the Kyabram Rodeo and VASA, his commitment to the ‘Pedigree Cow’ , to local community and his smiling face will be sorely missed.
