25.01.2022 Get ready for the unexpected The journey to cross-cultural service starts long before you get on a plane. So even if you are isolating at home during COVID-19, we are sharing 12 things you can do to prepare for cross-cultural service. What can I do now?... NINE // Write or draw a journal Write or draw a journal of your thoughts and Gods leading. You might reflect on what youve been learning. Record questions you have been thinking through. Write out your prayers. Its up to you! But its a great way to keep processing your thoughts and Gods promptings and something encouraging to look back on to see how prayers and questions have been answered. https://interserve.org.au/getready/ #Godlovestheworld

25.01.2022 #Godisworking #stillserving #golovetheworld #hangontohope... "An idea we had to help families during lockdown was an activity pack for children. Colouring sheets and puzzles around the theme of The Fruit of the Spirit were included. One mother said she was keeping the colouring for herself because she found it relaxing. We walked past her house one day and saw the pictures displayed prominently in her front window. Its fantastic to know she found relief from the pressures of lockdown. Hopefully, her children enjoyed the puzzles too :-)." Allen & Liz, serving diaspora communities in the UK

24.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why we call our workers 'Interserve Partners'? We use the term ‘Partner’ for our workers because it reflects our practice in prioritising relationship with the local people and partnership with the local leadership. The term ‘Partner’ also expresses the nature of the worker’s relationship with the global Interserve fellowship. There is a shared commitment in purpose, in values, and to each other. Partners have a minimum 2-year commitment to their term of service. For more information go to: interserve.org.au/serve/partnership/

22.01.2022 We invite you to join us as we pray for Muslims during the month of Ramadan, starting from today. Ramadan marks a period of fasting from dawn until dusk, including abstaining from both water and food. This is an important month where many Muslims seek to pursue closeness with God and find favour in him. Pray that they will encounter God and his love that extends to all in Christ. Pray for our Interserve Partners in the Arab World to have the opportunity to be a witness and share God's love as they partake in this experience with those around them.

22.01.2022 Australian Interserve partners recently shared this testimony from a recipient of a Food Basket, funded by our generous Tangible Love supporters: I extend my sincere thanks The most helpful thing was your distribution of the food basket we thank you because you remembered us. 19.01.2022 'History is often only seen as the stories of important people or events. But archaeology and history also have the potential to uncover the stories of the everyday lives of ordinary people. We already know the power of personal stories: we share the testimonies of God at work in our lives and the stories of others who have gone before us. For the Christians of Central Asia, archaeological research on the church in this region helps them appreciate the history they can own for themselves.' Are you surprised that God can use archaeologists in His work? Read more about how God used Victoria in Central Asia: https://issuu.com/inter//go_magazine_two_2020_s/s/11061541

17.01.2022 Why do we serve those who are marginalized and vulnerable? Why do we serve in challenging places? Why do we live and work in slum neighbourhoods, in communities with limited access to healthcare, clean water and soap? Each of our workers are compelled by a greater love, and moved to respond to the calling of Christ; to go love the world, as God loves the world. We serve the most marginalized with the abundant love of Jesus.... During this pandemic, many of our workers have remained in country, where they serve in healthcare or they are in lockdown alongside their local friends. Give to our Christmas Appeal today so Aussie Interservers can continue to live and work to make Jesus known among the peoples of Asia and the Arab world. https://interserve.org.au/golovetheworld/give/

14.01.2022 To our God of the unexpected We see you in places we never expected. We see you in people we never expected. We see you work in ways we never expected.... We choose to be your ordinary, unexpected servant. We seek you at work among the poor, the sick and the imprisoned. We follow you in neighbourhoods close to home and far over the seas. And though we don’t desire it, we expect that life brings suffering. We don’t desire it, but we expect to experience pain. We know this because we love a man of sorrows. We seek to join in your work. We seek your face in the faces of those we meet. We seek your glory, shining in places we never expected. 14.01.2022 'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.' - John 14:27 We are so often tempted to read this as a strict command - have peace, don't fear. Don't let yourself be troubled. Especially in light of a year when peace has seemed so hard to grasp hold of, a verse like this may cause us to look inward and see nothing but lack - the failure to be peaceful. But, in reading it this way..., we are unable to see what Jesus offers us - a gift. Peace is something He gives to us because He has seen our turmoil and felt our grief, and so, He gives the only thing that can fix our pain: true, lasting peace. This peace isn't a bandaid that ignores brokenness - it isn't 'toxic positivity,' if you will. How could the God who has committed to restoring this world through His saints and through His miraculous works somehow forget what needs to change and simply tell us to 'have peace' instead? No, rather, our peace comes because we know He is at work. We trust Him to direct us in what we should do, and we trust Him to never forget our needs, and the needs of our world. Despite what we see, we trust. We ache, yet we trust. That is real, lasting peace. If you would like to find out more about what we believe, and read our Statement of Faith, go to https://interserve.org.au/learn/about/statement-of-faith/

Promilla works alongside women and children impacted by violence to bring respect, understanding and the restoration of hope. Deb, a long-term Aussie Interserve worker, is there to share the burden.... Compelled by the love of Jesus, Interserve workers are involved in: women’s shelters and safe houses, child safety training and cultural change, counselling and reconciliation within communities, mentoring men, modelling healthy relationships, equipping women to find their voice against injustice and abuse. Would you mark this day by giving a donation to help women and men to overcome violence and abuse, as part of whole communities? 10.01.2022 Emily is an Interserve Partner, currently preparing to serve long term in a very difficult part of Asia. She hasnt left yet, but her journey began a long time ago. Here she reflects on Jesus call to make His love tangible in the world, and on the people and challenges shes met along the way. When I think of the concept of tangible love I think of my Nan. She passed away a couple of years ago. What I remember most about her was how her life was characterised by a quiet, j...oyful, servant heart. Even until her last waking moments, she was knitting little booties for the neonatal intensive care unit. She knitted hundreds of those little booties and toys for the babies. She even made tiny hospital gowns for the premature babies. She never got up on her soapbox to go tell the world (though she did need one to reach the wool for those booties), yet her motivation for doing these things was never hidden. Unlike her tea (white, no sugar, three dunks of the tea bag please) her faith was strong. Her faith was simple yet deep. She had Jesus and thats all she needed. She loved Him. Her servant heart and gentle character spoke volumes about Gods love to me and those who knew her. Nans life displayed tangible love. In thinking about tangible love, two prevailing thoughts come to mind. Keep reading - https://interserve.org.au/go/reflections-on-tangible-love/ #tangiblelove #Golovetheworld

10.01.2022 Were having a great time at Reach Out Missions Conference online today! So encouraging to hear people sharing and asking questions about Gods mission. 10.01.2022 Love Restores. The environment we live in has a dramatic impact on our wellbeing. Your support helps rural communities and the urban poor in Asia and the Arab World tackle environmental challenges that directly affect them. Australian workers are involved in sustainable coffee farming and secure food production, and even conversations around the backyard veggie patch.... Your donation will help provide advice and assistance with renewable technologies, clean water, pollution and recycling showing what it means to live out a practical faith that impacts all areas of life. We are seeking to raise $25,000 to fund this work this Christmas. Will you help us today? $40.00 can train 2 farmers to set up an organic fertiliser system. $100.00 can provide 20 coffee saplings, building sustainable income for families. $500.00 can train a village in organic farming. #loverestores #Godlovestheworld #Christmas #givehope #environment #sustainability https://love.interserve.org.au/campaigns/environment/

09.01.2022 We believe one of the biggest misunderstandings of cross-cultural ministry in the twenty-first century is the idea that "mission work" is limited to a specific set of tasks or goals - it is only for theologians, linguists, teachers, nurses and doctors, for example. While all these skills are extremely valuable, Gods mission requires a diverse range of personalities and professional backgrounds. God has used businesspeople, accountants, scientists, engineers, writers, IT spec...ialists, pilots, disciplers, plumbers, photographers, mothers, actors, ethnomusicologists, managers, agriculturalists - the list goes on - driven by compassion to reach others with the message of the Gospel! At Interserve, we believe that each person is most effective when living a life which is firstly, surrendered to Gods will, secondly, submitted to His purposes, and thirdly, lived in recognition of both ones own giftings and passions - whatever they may be. By narrowing your perspective of what cross-cultural ministry looks like, are you subconsciously limiting how God can use you? Are you unable to hear His still small voice because you are drowning it out with a repetitive surely not me? If this is you, chat with us today to discuss ideas, put your passions forward and see how we can work together to #golovetheworld.

08.01.2022 Do you have a heart for people who are refugees? The environment? Healthcare? You can ask your friends to support a project through your very own fundraising page! It’s so simple: set up your page, pick a project, and start collecting donations! https://love.interserve.org.au/community

07.01.2022 What does it mean to live a full and abundant life? How is God calling you to be his ambassador today?

07.01.2022 On September 1st more than 20 Interservers from around the world gathered online to celebrate and pray for the Season of Creation. John 3:16 tells us #Godlovestheworld. As His children, God calls us to #Golovetheworld in the same way. That includes all that He created and proclaimed as good. (Gen 1:31). The people we serve cannot flourish unless the environment that supports them also flourishes. ... Would you join us in praying for all that God has created. Our God, you hold our lives in your hands. You have promised to give us a new heart and to put a new spirit in us. We pray: renew us everyday. Forgive us where we have failed to be good stewards and to be good neighbours. Give us the courage to think beyond our own lives; to live and consume responsibly so that our near and far neighbours can experience their full dignity, and that we can help restore and admire the beauty of our communities and of this earth. Our God, you hold our world in your hands. You hear your creation groaning but you have promised to liberate it from its pain. We pray: renew our world. Forgive those of us who havent used their power wisely. Give us and our leaders the courage to think beyond our own economies; to seek genuine partnerships so that all people can experience the fullness of life, and that our planet is known to be the common home for all creation and future generations. Amen Inspired by: I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 36:26) For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 03.01.2022 Since the start of this year, generous donors like you have helped provide 545 food baskets to desperate and vulnerable families in a conflict zone in the Arab ...world. Ongoing armed conflict is the main driver of this food insecurity, limiting peoples ability to access the food they need to survive. The conflict has precipitated an economic collapse that has further exacerbated the food security crisis. Food prices have sky-rocketed, compounded by reduced access. Unemployment rates have also soared, leaving basic foods unaffordable for many. High food prices force people to adopt negative coping strategies such as cutting back on their number of meals. Where will our next meal come from? How can we eat less than we need for the next month? What do we do when our food runs out before we have money to buy more? A gift of $90 provides a food basket with 2 weeks basic emergency food supplies for a food-insecure family of 5 in an area of conflict. The food basket includes 25 kg of flour, 15 kgs of rice, 4 litres of oil, 6 cans of beans, as well as tea, pasta, dates, sugar and other items according to the needs of the people in each city. Help us reach the goal of 400 food baskets ($36,000) before end of September 2020. You can donate to the project or purchase a gift card. Every purchase of the gift of a food basket contributes to our project goal. All donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible in Australia. https://love.interserve.org.au/campaigns/emergencyfood/

01.01.2022 "Just before going overseas as an exchange student, I received some great cross-cultural advice. Don’t think of things as being weird. Think of them as being different. I took that advice to the other side of the world with me and I didn’t meet anyone weird, eat anything weird, go anywhere weird or hear anything weird. I certainly did, however, come across many people who were different to me. I ate different food, learnt a different language and had to adjust to different ...norms and practices like riding a bike everywhere, even when it was 2 degrees outside! It’s amazing how we can learn and grow when we have a healthy curiosity towards others. A willingness to hear their point of view can create wonderful opportunities for real connection and relationship. This is why Curiosity is one of the themes we explore together as part of CultureConnect’s CHAT program for schools and youth groups."
