23.01.2022 Given increasing public attention on policies in relation to domestic and family violence, we have published a briefing paper on this issue in relation to intersex people. https://ihra.org.au/familyviolence/

22.01.2022 Overnight, the introductory article for a special intersex-focused issue of the journal 'Culture, Health and Sexuality' was published. It's open access, and it makes a clear call for co-production of knowledge in intersex studies by intersex and endosex people. We recommend it to academics and researchers across Australia and elsewhere. Monro, Surya, Morgan Carpenter, Daniela Crocetti, Georgiann Davis, Fae Garland, David Griffiths, Peter Hegarty, Mitchell Travis, Mauro Cabral Grinspan, and Peter Aggleton. 2021. ‘Intersex: Cultural and Social Perspectives’. 21.01.2022 We agree with our friends at interACT. We all have a right to bodily autonomy, to respect, acceptance, and freedom from discrimination. The hatreds directed at trans people are often triggered by appearance or nonconformity. These hatreds always harm intersex people too.

17.01.2022 Earlier this week, the University of Sydney kindly hosted a panel to mark Intersex Awareness Day featuring Higher Education staff and students with intersex variations. Speakers were Morgan Carpenter, Dr Agli Zavros-Orr and Gabriel Filpi. Watch the video here. https://ihra.org.au/36736/iad-2020-sydney/

16.01.2022 It's great to see a parent of an intersex kid on Ngunnawal land writing an anonymous blog about raising their child - here's the first post, but the following posts are also great. "Those first few days are going to be nerve racking. You’re going to keep wondering if you did something wrong (you didn’t), you’re going to worry that there’s something wrong with your kid (there isn’t), and doctors are going to insist that you start planning for a surgery before your kid is 2 years old (big nope). What you need to focus on is that being intersex is a permanent part of your kid [...] So move forward with the information you have and raise your kid just like you planned..." https://parentingintersex.blog//so-youre-the-parent-of-an/

13.01.2022 IHRA was registered as a not-for-profit company on 6 May 2010. Today we celebrate our 10th anniversary! Read what some of our friends, colleagues, partners and allies say today, and please consider sharing and supporting our work. https://ihra.org.au/36371/we-celebrate-our-10th-anniversary/

13.01.2022 The WA rep for Intersex Peer Support Australia writes about her experience of medical interventions and non-disclosure: "I’m not against surgery, I’m against surgery that we as intersex children cannot consent to or be involved in the decision making processes... We need to stop unnecessary surgical procedures on Intersex children when it’s not a medical emergency." https://ihra.org.au/37949/my-body-my-choice/

12.01.2022 Interested in affirmative healthcare pathways? Register for this webinar on Friday: "As part of our activities to mark Intersex Day of Solidarity on the 8th November, Bonnie Hart, Mental Health Project Officer (Queensland Council for LGBTI Health), will participate in a panel discussion about the current state of health and social service provision, launch and talk through the resources and how they can assist services to become both intersex inclusive and affirmative, and provide an update on the Yellow Tick and its role in supporting intersex inclusive practice. "On the panel, Bonnie will be joined by Morgan Carpenter (Bioethicist and Co-executive Director, Intersex Human Rights Australia), and Dr. Agli Zavros-Orr (Academic and Board member of Intersex Peer Support Australia & Intersex Human Rights Australia)."

05.01.2022 We don’t share salacious news articles, and rarely share inaccurate stories except for purposes of commentary. We encourage journalists writing about intersex people to read our media and style guide, and also follow Australian Press Council guidelines https://ihra.org.au/style/

05.01.2022 We're proud to have supported the development of intersex healthcare pathway resources, launching tomorrow, Friday 6 November, at 12:00 AEST 1:00pm AEDT as part of the Yellow Tick, a community-led initiative to help orgs improve affirmative service delivery. 03.01.2022 Always was, always will be, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land. We pay our respects to traditional owners of these unceded lands and acknowledge the ongoing effects of colonisation, including through Western systems of law and medicine. #naidoc2020 #NAIDOCWeek2020
